We lose third place as Tranmere hammered Scunthorpe 4-0 but not all bad news as Crawley win at Northampton.

From Oldham's Twitter account.. ℹ️ The match referee has now indicated there will be a formal pitch inspection at 1:10pm due to the recent inclement weather conditions. A further update will follow. Good of the referee to give the chance for travelling spectators to get all the way to Oldham before calling the game off. Got back about 45 minutes ago.

I particularly enjoyed the 94.50 train fare which I would have had a chance to reclaim via the 3 quid insurance, had they inspected the pitch at 10am with a weather forecast close to hand. It's especially galling because the poor weather was no secret. If the ptich had been borderline at 10am it wouldn't have taken a genius to realise it would be unplayable by kick off.
At least I got to enjoy the national football museum. And several pints of Jw Lee's Manchester pale ale, a favorite of mine. Doubt I'll be able to attend the rearranged game unless there is a particularly late train back. Gutted. Not as gutted as dons, reading or Newcastle fans, but gutted nonetheless.

Got back about half hour ago, what a wasted day - into Manchester Piccadilly for 1pm having already been tipped off about an earlier preliminary inspection which was ok the game got called off around 1:20. Frustrating. I thought I’d go to Boundary Park anyways to see the ground as the rearranged midweek trip will be tricky for me to get to. Surely a club like Oldham would have pitch covers no?! Hope fellow travelling U’s fans managed to make a good day of it today despite the very late postponement.

Those of us who enjoy good beer did derive some benefit from a day trip to Oldham; we drank in three excellent pubs in the town centre. 🙂 Good to chat to Oldham Athletic fans in the Fox & Pine.

In the absence of any competitive football within spitting distance of Oldham (although we could've made a Stalybridge Celtic game ten minutes after kickoff with a significant cab journey) we ended up sinking a few jars at the Cloudwater owned Sadler's Cat near Manchester Victoria station. Polly's Plum & Cherry Gose was a particular highlight.

I hope the club send a strong letter to the EFL regarding yesterday. I sent an email to Oldham Friday morning asking in view of the bad weather to come if the pitch was covered and if a pitch inspection was scheduled. I did not get any reply/ response to this .With the amount of rain that fell after 11o/c it Would have made no difference to the state of the pitch had the inspection at 11o/c should have confirmed the postponement. I thought that Oldham's apology was insincere.

It is small consolation for yesterday but looking at the picture on SCR's twitter had match been at home game might have been called off even closer to ko. Then the away fans would have been slagging us off. Is our drainage OK? Do we have covers ? We're our volunteer pitch forkers on the ball Etc etc.

We do have covers, but I’m sure you can guess what’s coming next…. We will need volunteers to deploy them when required.

Agree with previous post regarding the statement from Oldham not impressed bearing the weather up there and weather forecasts. Always thought it was in doubt from the moment we left Sutton but had to go and could not wait for any pitch inspection. Thank you to all the Supporter's who made the journey by various means. Just think for all our sakes could have been handled better not referring to our club.

I’d like to see a direct complaint raised by SUFC to the FA for the manner in which Oldham allowed Sutton supporters to commute best part of 500 miles in a day only to be told at a ludicrously time of 1.25pm that the game was now “off”. A full refund for a) the players costs hotel and travelling b) full refund for the cost of supporters coach and c) a fine on them. It was very clear to all Oldham had no genuine interest in getting this game on, instead deliberately left the pitch open to the elements. I do not question the proper referees decision that it was then waterlogged. Fact is if Oldham genuinely wanted to get the game on they would have have protected the pitch with their pitch cover. The fact they lost 0-6 mid-week, are bottom of league facing a 3rd placed club on the day and a likely defeat along with more protests from their irate supporters is their problem not the visiting opposition. What they allowed to happen speaks for itself. Oldham made no announcement that the game was in serious doubt other than announcing there would “be a 1pm inspection”. Who performed the 11am pitch inspection which Oldham never put on their social media because they did not want to lose potential online ticket sales or bar takings. Such behaviour is totally inconsiderate, unprofessional and they should be punished allowing the pitch to remain unprotected and then stringing everyone along until the proper referee assessed the pitch was now useless. If they were top and not bottom of the league would they have done the same?

I would place the complaint on the grounds of “Failure to make a professional effort to get the fixture played in accordance with obliged duty because it suited their personal circumstances for it not to go ahead on that day”. They failed to protect the pitch when it was in their control to do so, then hoped to hide behind the smokescreen of the “referees decision” to pull it because of the condition of the pitch. The reason the match did not go ahead was not about the referee but OAFC putting that referee in the position of having no option but to cancel it by letting it get wrecked, deliberately unprotected and in doing so fell short of the obliged professional effort.

It was suggested on their forum, Oldham would have to pay for Sutton’s expenses. Does anyone know if that’s true?

I have not seen anything about a payment from Oldham. But it would be a good gesture if they did. See earlier post.
