That Sutton v Gateshead match was memorable for the two late and decisive goals scored by Dean Beckwith!

Yes both from corners, I think. I may be wrong but the 4th goal was around the 86th minute mark. Pandemonium ensued behind the goal.

On this day......in 1980. We were away to Cavese in our first game in defence of the Anglo-Italian Cup. The supporters' club had arranged a group to stay in Sorrento for both games that week. We drew 0-0.
After 42 years it is perhaps time I held my hand up for the April Fool at the hotel (in partnership with Steve M)

Yes, not sure a certain couple were too happy to read that due to a hotel mix up they had to share a room with me!
On this day in 2022, Littlehampton Town reached Wembley for the first time. A good way to celebrate their 125th year with a 4 0 thumping of Loughborough Students in front of 3,142.
Wembley, Wembley we're the famous Littlehampton.....

April 4th 1983 - the first of our six consecutive Surrey Senior Cup final wins, 4-0 against Tooting at Richmond Road. Two goals from Ricky Kidd, one from John Rains and then, fittingly as he had been unluckily sent off against Tooting earlier in the season(I believe our first sending off for about thirteen years), Lee Batt completed the scoring.
And in 1981 there was Phil Lunn's own goal that revived what looked to be fading Wembley hopes against Bangor in the FA Trophy. Part two of that one comes next week.
And I meant to post this one last Thursday but was sidelined by other things - Paul McKinnon's first two goals for Sutton on 31 March 1977, against Hendon in a League Cup tie we lost 3-2. He would go on to score another 277. He was also one of a number of former players supporting us at Wembley yesterday.

I did see a picture of Messrs Rains, Cornwall, Hemsley and Rogers from the class of 89.

Wonder where Patrick will end up next season. Will certainly be attracting the attention of some bigger clubs.

Yes, I didn't count Tobi as he was invited as a member of this season's squad, indeed he scored our first goal of the competition.

April 5th 2008 saw Sutton United officially relegated from the Conference South following a 2-0 defeat at Havant & Waterlooville. Relegation had been pretty much confirmed the week before (and let’s face it, it was inevitable for months) but only became official after this match.
Fast forward 8 years to the 5th of April 2016 and a major step to leaving the Conference South this time in the opposite direction was taken following a 2-1 victory at Maidstone United.

I do not actually remember this day in 1958, but I am told it snowed outside Epsom Hospital !
58 years later we travelled to Maidstone and our performance that night gave me a feeling I had only experienced once before (stay tuned in a few days time) - paraphrased as "Heck, this really is a good team and now I am totally confident we are going to win the league". It was not just the win, it was the way we played and the belief of the players that was almost tangible.

And on this day in 1980 we played the second of our matches in defence of our Anglo Italian Cup, away to Campobasso up in the mountains about 100 miles or so south east of Rome. When we (the supporters' coach) arrived we found nobody there spoke English, and none of us spoke Italian. So we muddled by in German. It was the coldest I have ever been at a football match. And the home fans lit fireworks under the open stand where we were all sat (think American style bleachers). If I remember correctly this was also the game where Keith Waldon broke his leg. The game ended 0-0.
