Crazy game, in which at least three of the six goals were attributable to mistakes either by the referee or a player. In the end we were delighted to snatch a point deep into stoppage time.
Richie Bennett has now scored three goals for us, all against Stevenage. I think I know which one he'll remember most fondly.
Without Omar up front, and with Tanto starting out on the left again, our attack did seem to lack a focal point during the first half. Bringing on Bennett, and moving Tanto alongside him, did sharpen us up for a while. But overall this was a rather rickety performance from us.
Now down to fifth, we do have the opportunity on Tuesday to reclaim third place by completing a 'treble' over Colchester.

Simply put. Tanto is not a winger & Tobi can't do the same job as Omar or Richie. As soon as we made the substitutions we looked a far better team and if we hadn't given away a comical 3rd goal then just maybe we could have won. Still a point against a revitalised Stevenage was in the end a very good point!

A mad Ref I look forward to MarkF's appraisal of the bloke in the middle... Me too! A brace of legal goals from us and four more which should have been chalked off. If a player takes a free kick 20 yards away from the offence and fucks it up, surely he should still be made to retake it???

Just watched the highlights. Don't want to comment too much on the refereeing - but I agree with Matt and others that our penalty certainly didn't look like a foul. Deano is obviously an emotional character who wears his heart on his sleeve - and that has got him in trouble with referees on occasions this season - but great to see him running the length of the pitch to celebrate in front of the Sutton fans when Richie equalised (as well as running down the right wing and putting crosses into the opposition box!). Really good to see Richie get his goal and a very nice post-match interview when he acknowledged all the hard work that Tobi and Donovan had done before he came on. Well done to SUFC TV for getting an interview with the legend that is John Motson - and what a lovely interview it was. What a goal by Ali Smith and what a signing he has been - to fill the gap left by an absent Harry Beautyman for such a prolonged period is some achievement. Rob obviously made an error on their third goal - but credit to him the way he came back and converted the penalty. He has contributed enormously to what we have achieved this season. I suspect that many might have forgotten that he has primarily been a midfield player throughout his career - not a full back. From all accounts we did not play well at all at times today - but has any Sutton side in its history ever shown as much character to consistently battle away to gain results in the face of adversity - I don't think so - and a fair amount of the credit for that must go to Matt and Jason as well as the players themselves.

Still a point against a revitalised Stevenage was in the end a very good point! Spot on. Matt's starting 11 raised some eyebrows amongst my group. Olafae wasn't a threat out on the left against Exeter and sho silva hasn't shown anything to suggest he's effective at this level unfortunately. Very impressed with Stevenage, much more direct under Tisdale and marked us out of the game until Bennett came on and roughed their previously composed 6 up. Their number 8 ran the game. I thought we needed to match them with 3 in the middle as Smith and easty were chasing shadows for 60 mins until the change, but MG is clearly resolute on 442. Fair play he made the changes early and it played dividends. That first goal and penalty decision, just unbelievable. Referee was well placed yet made three atrocious decisions leading to goals, and should be dropped from the league list after that. What a game though. Deanos foray down the right will live long in the memory, as will Bennetts towering header and BGs celebrations. Have we ever scored a later goal?

Well done and many, many thanks to everyone who made the journey to Stevenage yesterday - the support was just magnificent. We travelled in numbers and were loud and proud and it was constant throughout the game.
Several of the players remarked after the match how the noise coming from the away stand really helped to spur them on - and what joyous scenes of celebration both on and off the pitch when Richie’s header hit the back of the net! In it together - you bet. What a team, what a club.
The challenge now of course is to replicate some of that noise and intensity at GGL as we go on to write the next chapters of this most extraordinary and exciting story together.

Have we ever scored a later goal? Who can forget Jeff Stelling's despairing cry "and Sutton have equalised in the ninety-ninth minute!!!"

Rambo was correct about the Stevenage match programme, earlier on in this thread. The club only produces a digital programme. However, what a match we 388 SUFC supporters witnessed yesterday. Well done to our guys for not giving up. It was nice for a change for it to be us getting a very last minute goal to equalise.

Who can forget Jeff Stelling's despairing cry "and Sutton have equalised in the ninety-ninth minute!!!" Ah good spot. I think I was actually watching that live on sky so should have remembered. Pretty sure it's the latest goal I've ever seen at a match I've attended.
