I like Boonfish though, sounds like an extra from Boyz n the Hood.

Well done and many, many thanks to everyone who made the journey to Stevenage yesterday - the support was just magnificent. We travelled in numbers and were loud and proud and it was constant throughout the game. Several of the players remarked after the match how the noise coming from the away stand really helped to spur them on - and what joyous scenes of celebration both on and off the pitch when Richie’s header hit the back of the net! In it together - you bet. What a team, what a club. The challenge now of course is to replicate some of that noise and intensity at GGL as we go on to write the next chapters of this most extraordinary and exciting story together. #ForeverAmber I agree. GGL has been pretty quiet of late. It seems the traveling fans are more motivated to cheer the team on. It seems like a psychological thing.

Simply put. Tanto is not a winger & Tobi can't do the same job as Omar or Richie. As soon as we made the substitutions we looked a far better team and if we hadn't given away a comical 3rd goal then just maybe we could have won. Still a point against a revitalised Stevenage was in the end a very good point! Agree with the Sho Silva comment. Tanto played on the left for a significant number of games last season including Hartlepool and was effective. Unfortunately whether it is due to his earlier injury, he is still not fully fit or it is a confidence thing he is not the same player we saw last season using his pace to attack or close down defenders. Preferring often to play the ball square or back. This could also be the role he is now being asked to play. Tanto could still be a key player for us this season either down the centre or on the left. He just needs to find his form of last season. I am sure it is in there. David Ajiboye was also very quiet yesterday.

It was discussed yesterday among supporters around me yesterday that David wants more support around him. But it's great to see him running at the opposition. I may start a debate here that I hope I will not be shot at. Is W R an out and out winger. Unlike E B or K K. again it was discussed that he does not run down the wings but cuts inside to his right but he does score some good goals ( Hayes ) comes to mind.

Tanto has been a little quiet lately by his standards, but let's not forget the hustling and finishing that brought him superb goals at Tranmere and Orient in November. I've little doubt that we'll see more from him soon.
David A didn't have his greatest game at Stevenage, but it was his beautifully floated cross from the edge of the area that was headed in by Richie B for that equaliser. (It was similar to the cross he delivered for Omar's goal at Forest Green on the opening day.)

It seems some Stevenage fans think that the guy who ran on the pitch heading towards our end after our equaliser was a Sutton fan. But he came from the away end, so why would he be. If so, does anyone either know who he is or has seen him before. Strange that they thought he was one of our own. Anyone know??

David Ajiboye was also very quiet yesterday. From what I can recall, olafae regularly played on the left of a front three rather than as a winger in a 442 which really does not suit his game. Teams are clearly doing their homework on David A, but even double marked he's going to create chances with that magic ability to find dribbling lanes which look impossible. Will Randall is very predictable as he can't beat players on the outside but he's a better option than olafae wide in a 442. Armchair tactician alert- I think we should occasionally mix it up with 433 away as it's more compact. Playing with wingers works a treat at home where we can stretch teams but has sometimes left our back 4 exposed on the road, especially when defending a lead. It was a big ask expecting Craig to compete against a numerically advantaged Stevenage midfield after so long out. Hopefully Harry will be back for some of the upcoming glut of games as we really need options in the Centre.

According to one Stevenage forum post yesterday, the ref, when questioned re the penalty decision, said he made a mistake. I suggest his biggest one was getting in his car and driving to the Lamax yesterday. He was truly awful. He directly affected the match with three possibly four poor decisions that resulted in goals.
Their first two goals came from baffling decisions. Ben G was clearly fouled (even mentioned on Quest) while the f-k against Tanto from which they scored their second was very dubious. Their third (more of later) was a f-k to U's taken in the wrong place and with Reid well within ten yards of the kick. The pen he gave U's was a complete joke too. The FLPaper gave him 7 out of 10. What the hell was the author of that report watching (most of his "report" was actually managers' quotes)? Does he know anything about football or was it the same idiot writing the Stevenage official report who described Ali S's goal as a shot that floated in via a deflection?! Some of these modern reporters should take a look a back at old newspapers to see how a football match should be observed. They knew their craft back then.
In terms of interference I reckon the ref's performance was the closest we have witnessed since Mr Kaye in that match with Truro a few seasons ago. He wasn't helped by his senior assistant either.
All the above though added to a very odd but nonetheless, entertaining afternoon. Stevenage was the better side in the first half and got beyond U's back line on a fair few occasions but failed to capitalise. For U's Tanto gave glimpses on the left and late on Ben G lifted a decent chance over the top. By then, U's were two goals adrift. Ben G tussled with the physical Norris but was clearly fouled as Norris broke away and eventually netted with a fine curling finish. The second came from a poor f-k decision. However, the training ground move thought up presumably by Tisdale and its execution on the pitch can only be applauded. Great goal.
Second half U's looked a better prospect and Ali S's strike was fantastic. There may have been a slight deflection but the 'keeper was never getting near that. Then came their third and I suspect Matt G wouldn't be happy. He mentioned his displeasure with us changing our f-k pattern at Exeter that led to them breaking away to score. This was far worse. Dean B running up to take, Rob M plays it quick and Reid cuts out and breaks to place into empty net. Yes, totally U's fault but technically illegal in football law based on my obervations above. If that had been either side taking a quick f-k in an attacking area competent refs would have blown and had it retaken. There should have been no difference here.
Then the fightback. Cuthbert, who had looked decent gets in a tackle and the ball goes for a corner; ref gives pen. Shocking decision but par for the course yesterday afternoon. Rob M makes amends this time going low rather than his usual high. Same result.
Dean B had to make a couple of decent saves then showed his prowess as an attacking full back down the right flank before the ref added 8 minutes. Most was for the floodlight issue which he made a right meal of. It had hardly caused an issue at the time and would only have done so if not fixed before winter's daylight disappeared (although the way his eyes seemed to function perhaps he needed all sets of lights on to feel comfortable). By then it was back on. Their no 6 was down for quite a while plus the usual for subs. And then there was their cretinous fans who tried to waste time in not giving the ball back (oh how I laughed at them in the 98th minute). Finally that last minute goal. David A gets away to cross perfectly for Richie B to score with a towering header. Mayhem in front of the Sutton fans. No idea who the idiot interloper was. Stevenage forum suggest he was Sutton but he appeared to have come from at least the halfway line suggesting otherwise.
U's were nowhere near their best yesterday but the Matt G factor that is "never beaten" came to the fore. I don't think the pitch was great; certainly the least impressive part of a tidy stadium and Craig E was coming back with only the Sheerwater game in his matchday legs since early December. Plus the Covid outbreak, Oldham postponement and the 11 days without a match, U's looked a bit rusty against a side revitalised by their very experienced manager and a decent win seven days earlier. In those circumstances a great point.
Onto Colchester for another tough EFL encounter.
Update: apparently the pitch invader ran to the halfway line and then back towards the players so may have been of Sutton persuasion. To be confirmed.

Having thought about their 3rd goal, if you ignore the fact it was taken from the wrong place, the Stevenage player obstructs the ball while within 10yards of the kick, therefore a free kick to U's and a booking for Reid.

Ah good spot. I think I was actually watching that live on sky so should have remembered. Pretty sure it's the latest goal I've ever seen at a match I've attended. Took me AGES to find this... Tommy Wright's Twitter feed finally came up trumps. mobile.twitter.com/Tom...tus/921776718263799813/video/1
