Something that has struck me this season is how relaxed the players seem when they are warming up before the game, and how happy they all seem - particularly the ‘non’ first 11 group, who get stuck into their routines with no obvious disappointment that they are not starting, but with much laughter and camaraderie. The management have got the players onside, that is most obvious. This can only strengthen the performances of those coming off the bench (as we saw last night).

fantastic achievement for a 'Surrey pub team' in mid-January. Don't forget the 'tinpot' !

Another great game. As has been said earlier this team is just brilliant. Once again the timing of the substitutes was good.it changed the game right around. I believe W R was man of the match. A good goal to round off one of the best games I have seen him play. Congrats to TANTO for 2 more goals. I think Jason is right by putting R B more forward in front of the sticks ( I think the expression is) Looking forward to Saturday and Northampton it should again be a good game and with a possible large crowd.

Almost decided to go last night, but walking back from physio the temperature really dropped and I decided against it, I really wish I hadn't now. 😅 Up the U's!

After the H&Y FA Cup tie I stated that while Will R doesn't score many goals the ones he does, tend to be rather good. Once again he delivered another fine strike last night to secure a dramatic victory. The precision of his shot from the edge of the box was beautiful to watch as it cut across U's equally beautiful surface and into the corner of the net. For the second match running late pandermonium ensued. And quite rightly giving me a metaphorical one finger salute as I thought Will rather than Enzio would be the one to be substitiuted. Not because of Will's performance but because Enzio had just set up a goal!
This was a decent match against a side that looked a lot better than the previous league match and in Freddie Sears a very dangerous opponent. Like the match at Colchester, U's suffered an early blow as one of their new recruits netted with a fine shot from distance (as good as Will's effort). Sears then broke through but as he did at Colchester delayed and found Dean B a big enough obstacle close up.
Omar B, who for obvious reasons didn't look his usual self as the match wore on, then got on the end of a misdirected clearance to see his effort come off the post for Tanto to net. 1-1 and a nice little earner for yours truly. After that their 'keeper made a decent save but the rest of half saw U's enjoy a lot of possession but coming up against a decent defence. Colchester were rare visitors to U's half but again they got behind and U's probably should have cleared before the penalty arose. Their no 2 wanted a red card for Louis J but as the ball wasn't going in and looked to have come off the post first, his protests were quite rightly ignored. Sears kept up his record of scoring in all 3 matches against Sutton with a well taken pen.
Second half Colchester started well and Sears failed to hit the target with what was to prove their best chance of the half. U's got back in the match thanks to Enzio B's fine cross, Richie B getting up to the ball and Tanto on hand to complete the process.
Before that Rob M had a flashed a fine strike close to the far post.
Richie put in a fine low cross from the left that the 'keeper somehow diverted away from the lurking U's forwards but the late drama was still to unfold and U's first EFL double recorded. Colchester will definitely feel they should have got something but I think U's deserved this victory. Over the 90 plus Sutton was the better side but it puzzles me why CUFC are doing so badly.
So for the second match running the spirit that Matt G has installed into the playing staff since he took over saw the team come from behind to get something out of the match. Their committment to the cause cannot be praised enough.
That's 13 victories from 25 matches. Prior to the season starting, I would have been happy with that from 35 matches!
The ref was one of the better ones last night. Fussy at times and I was surprised he had to rely on the lino to give the pen but a marked improvement on the idiot at Stevenage.
A very big match up next and a very difficult opponent. We certainly didn't see Northampton at their best earlier in the season but then, that had a lot to do with the Sutton performance on the day. More of the same please!
