I think given our late flurry we were a bit unlucky not to take 3 points. The penalty was a bit of a gift as the striker was moving away from Goal and a bit of an error from Deano, may have also been a bit soft.
They had allot of possestion but only really threatend in spells. I would say chances wise we were the better team. But they look a decent side so cant grumble with a point.

Anyone else notice BBC had the stats as 21 fouls conceded to 6. Just shows the utter bias towards the bigger team from disgraced ex premier league ref madley. When you look at that stat you can't help but ask questions about at best lack of impartiality, at worst downright corruption.
No argument about the pen but what a gift. No danger whatsoever. Deano just needs to call away or keeper and it's a nothing situation. Would like another look at our penalty shout but it did look like ola got the wrong side of the defender and went down a bit easy. Was never going to get anything but a stonewall pen, some of the free kicks against us were almost comical. Milsom picked up a stupid yellow but can't blame him for the frustration.
One of our best performances of the season against a very good side. Lost count how many times we forced an error and we kept a lively attack down to a handful of chances, mostly self inflicted (or a gifted free kick which wasn't one).
4 points from the next 2 would be a good return. FgR next week should be a real cracker.

With reference to earlier posts I have just listened to J Bartons' after match interview and he mentioned the state of pitch several times. Quote. " ITS TO HARD " But said we have a good team!!

Yesterdays game was ultimately a good spectacle between 2 in-form sides. Yes, it was a shame that we gifted Rovers an equaliser at the death but a draw was probably a fair outcome. It would have been great if Sutton could have hung on to the 3 points or get a winner in the last few minutes but my over-riding memory of the game was, strangely, not the result. My memory will go down as the appalling officiating by a referee who seemed to become more and more biased towards Rovers the longer the game went on. He gave soo many freekicks consistently to the wrong side (imho) that I began to wonder whether he was trying to fix the match result in Bristol's favour. Many of those in the stand around me too were consistently baffled by the refs decision making too. I understand that people make mistakes every now and then but to consistently make incorrect and baffling decisions in what we all hoped would be a 'fair' contest is to me inexplicable.

One of those matches that at one point you may have been happy with a draw but ultimately disappointed all three wern't taken. One error of communication, a 'keeper way out of his goal and the opponent unexpectedly with the ball. A panic reaction and it's 1-1. Prior to that Rovers had offered little in the second half and U's had held their own. What Joey B meant by his comment "after they scored we were the only side trying to the right things", I have no clue whatsoever. But then taking any wisdom from him is not advised.
Another windy Saturday with it blowing towards the away end but U's started well and caused a lot of problems with Tanto forcing a decent save from their giant Finn before what was one of just six free-kicks given to U's all match led to the opener Richie B, who impressed again, on hand to find the roof of the net from a couple of yards. Rovers had initially struggled with the wind but they twice hit the woodwork from decent efforts. 1-0 up at h-t U's were rarely under the cosh in the second half and that equaliser came out of nothing and out of the blue.
U's rallied with Omar B carrying on where Richie B had left off and Donovan W did brilliantly to set up the chance that saw Omar hit the post. Their 'keeper made three decent saves and 1-1 it was.
As for our ex Prem ref yesterday. Jesus. He gave us almost nothing. Their centre back comes flying into the back of Omar to win a header, gives a foul to them. Easty is fouled gives nothing and Rob M has to bring their fella down, yellow. He booked Joe K very early on. Ref didn't make a fuss of showing the cards, looked very fit even if a bit rotund - PL efficiency - the rest was more like watching the secretary of a Sunday morning side ref his team. Impartiallity questionable. The lino on the Rec side was so quick to flag for fouls to Rovers (including the pen when his signalling was almost gleeful) but when it was to Sutton (the one U's scored from) his flag stayed down. Not a good look that. Christ knows what we did before the game to upset them? Perhaps the tightness of the officials dressing room at Sutton was a reality check and a reminder what one appalling social media comment can do to your career. Not our fault mate but most definitely yours.
Still, he didn't directly have a say on the match outcome and the loss of two points was down to a mad five seconds. It happens and it was another point and a rise into third place against an in form Rovers team. Another decent gate too.
Salford up next and they will be rested after not playing yesterday.

As you say every Premiership team has a hybrid pitch. But they don’t come cheap and so I guess a little bit of envy has coloured his view. These fans of certain teams just hate that we don’t roll over and just hand them three points whilst shaking in fear. 💪🏻

As far as our pitch is concerned I think it is holding its own but beginning to struggle. It is a hybrid surface that had to be rushed to be ready. It is not helped that in its first season it is being played virtually 3 times a week . Take this period played on Saturday, played on today (by scr) will be played on Tuesday by first team then again Saturday v f.g.r.then on the Sunday after f.g.r by our women, then on 15th while the first team are travelling to Bristol by our very good Accademy team then on 19th and 23rd by s.c.r before the first team entertain Scunthorpe on 26 Feb. Does not leave so much time for recovery. I doubt many Pl grounds see such a schedule.

Even when it’s raining it’s usual for clubs to still have the sprinklers on, the theory being it helps to have a slicker pitch to aid their passing game. Sutton aren’t a kick and rush team, but I think it’s fair to say they don’t rely on knocking the ball around quickly and on the ground as much as many teams do, particularly in the higher levels.

Bearing in mind what our previous grass pitch was like the moaners saying it's too hard should be thankful. Rather ours than say, Stevenage's soft surface any day.

I suspect that pitch maintenance is all being closely advised on and all the right things done. It’s a huge investment for the club and I don’t think we’ve put it down with the intent of it being anything but the best surface possible.

What was Bouzanis booked for? My mate who went to the game didn't seem to know, and when listening on the radio on the way home from work the commentator said it was because he was arguing with a player about his socks?! 😕🤷🏻♂️ I think it was for time wasting whilst we were temporarily down to 10 men. I've seen games held up by the referee to allow players to sort out their boots so why is there no consistency (although I don't actually agree with it). I also thought that Madeley was a disgrace. He gave us hardly anything when they looked like clear fouls and dished out cards like early Valentines. On the train afterwards from Sutton to Victoria in a carriageful of Rovers supporters I said that I thought he was a disgrace. They laughed and said that they thought he was fair. That's understandable from their point of view. However after my tirade against them (apologies to others on the train) we ended up having a civilised conversation ending with a shake of hands.

I vaguely remember us rather randomly playing Rovers in a pre-season friendly at GGL in the early 00’s - the game finished 2-2 but we led 2-0. And we lost 2-1 last time we played them in a friendly, in 2015.
