Just been reading NewsatDen and it looks like Gary Rowett wants to keep tanto as he just needs a little extra work before he’s in the main squad, so it doesn’t look like tanto will be back. Let’s hope I’m wrong. I've just read the same article brisfitboy. Must admit that I read it as saying that although Rowett has been impressed with Tanto during preseason, he hasn't yet decided whether he is ready to make a substantial contribution to Millwall's first team this season or not. Here is the interview: GARY Rowett has been impressed with Isaac Olaofe’s pre-season performances so far. Olaofe, 22, is yet to make his first competitive appearance for Millwall, having gone out on loan three times to Sutton United and once to Scottish Premiership side St Johnstone. However, the striker has been given the chance to prove his worth in pre-season and impressed his manager with his performance against Colchester United. “Tanto’s been excellent in the loans that he’s had. I think you can see the goalscoring threat that he’s got over the top, a bit like Tyler (Burey) at times. We just need him to tidy up a little bit more technically sometimes to keep possession of the ball when we need to, but those are the things that those young players have got to learn. “The next step into the Championship is a difficult step,” Rowett added. The Millwall boss also highlighted Tyler Burey, who broke into the Lions first-team last season after being picked up from AFC Wimbledon in 2019. The 21-year-old is a natural forward, but has been played as an attacking midfielder in recent friendly matches. Rowett explained that, while both players have impressed him so far, he hasn’t decided on whether or not they will be able to contribute regularly in the Lions’ starting lineup this season. “I think what they’ve done is that they’ve both given themselves a fabulous chance. Obviously Tyler’s had that experience while Tanto hasn’t, and all they can do is keep making me think ‘can they do it?’, or whether we strengthen that area with something different. That’s all we can do. “They’ve both been excellent in pre-season so far. I thought Tyler found it a little bit harder to find space tonight (vs Colchester United) than he did against Dartford of course. As a 10, that’s something that he’s going to have to improve on as well. “But that’s what these games are about, it’s about learning, taking those performances forward and impacting at Championship level, which is what they both want to do.” newsatden.co.uk/85565-millwall-boss-on-isaac-olaofes-performances/

experimental361.files.wordpress.com/2022/07/2022-07-08-103.pngThis is a fascinating graphic which shows the churn ( turnover ) of squads based on losing players who played the most minutes last season. Stockport has the lowest churn - replicating us by keeping the bulk of the main squad and making strategic additions. Lemonheigh-Evans and Kyle Wootton are the standouts in my book. Surprised nobody has taken a punt on Asa Hall the Torquay skipper - another player who would do well at this level. The Torquay squad that nearly pipped us to the NL title but blew up at the death - bit reminiscent of FGR - who we know just held on, suffered badly from second season syndrome and have now seen that team largely dismantled. I don’t predict a swift return to the EFL anytime soon for them. I have to say the optimism that Stockport will do well isn’t misplaced. We have the 6th lowest churn virtually the same as our nearest neighbours. ( these stats are good as of 8th July) . Unless recruitment has been spot on and teams integrate quickly and well in PS my quess is the bottom 2 will come from the half with the greatest churn rates.

How's everyone feeling about our transfer business so far? Neufville looks like a real handful and a great bit of business. Fadahunsi has the hallmarks of a diamond in the rough. I have to be honest and say gamblin and hart don't excite me at all from the brief moments I've seen, and considering how poor the L2 squads they last played in were. I'm going to assume it's been very competitive finding players to improve the squad, what with L2 and NL sides throwing money around like it's 2001 again. I'm also assuming Matt's budget for transfer fees is basically zero and money from ajiboye is going into infrastructure. Makes sense, but I belive we'll be a midtable side this season, perhaps flirting with both ends of the table but finishing firmly middle. That would be another successful season imo. The one signing which excites me most is tobi. Highlight reel makes him look like an adult playing with a bunch of kids and he impressed me against dulwich. One for the future but I could see this kid playing anywhere on the pitch with those attributes. Great bit of forward thinking from Matt I reckon. http://instagram.com/p/CPaxRiVA2BN

Having just watched Matt's post-match interview, it's clear he thinks Tobi has potential but judging by his add-on comment "probably not right here right now" I am assuming that he will be going on loan for the foreseeable future.
I have no issue with Matt's recent signings having one eye on the present and another further down the line. Matt's taken some educated gambles on the limited resources available to him. Here's hoping they pay off...

Interesting, as Ive been very impressed with Hart in the two games I've seen, altough I wonder if we will miss Milsom's dead ball kicks if he doesn't play. My real concern after yesterday is that Donovan and Omar looked the best of our front options and last year they didn't really score a lot of goals. With no Ajiboye, Tanto or Bennett to chip in, are we going to be very reliant on our midfield and defence to get the goals, as last year?

I've not seen enough but I just mean in terms of general excitement levels. The double relegation thing with Hart is playing on my mind for sure. Good point about Milsom. His set pieces are so important to us. I dont know much about Hart or Gamblin but perhaps one is highly regarded with set pieces. I think everyone on this forum was hoping we'd bring in a proven goalscorer with whatever money we got for Ajiboye. That's not going to happen, but Thomas looks like he'll be a very useful player. Yes, I think we'll be relying on goals from all over the pitch again.

OK. Yes I missed last night's game. But reading previous posts about last nights game and how the squad is being formed it seems that we are still missing an out and out scorer.( as I have said in earlier posts ) Again using Omar and Donovan as main forwards. As been said we could be reliant on the mid field and defenders to score. Although said, still looking forward to the new season.

Let’s not forget players improve/mature. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a far bigger goal output from Wilson at some point soon. Has all the ingredients. Now 25 a good age for a forward and with a decent run of fitness could well end up with a break through year in terms of goal return at this level.

I often feel that an out and out goals scorer is just that, an out and out goal scorer, but to have a plethora of goal scorers on board is worth more than the one. Plus the fact that once someone is tagged as a goal scorer that’s it along comes moneybags and goodbye the main man although granted that you might get a fair wedge for them, but who’s going to get the goals now?

How many goals did Tanto and Ajiboye combine for in 2022?? Not many, Tanto missed quite a lot of time with injury. Everybody relax.

Last season we didn't have a single player in League Two's top 25 goalscorers and yet we still finished eighth. Just putting that out there.

I don't know much about Gamblin either. I do however know a bit about Gambin. Derek Gamblin signed from Potsmouth and played for much of the 1960's. A right back he played for U's in the 1963 AC Final and was part of the side that won the Isthmian in 1967. He was capped on many occasions by England amateurs.
