Having just watched Matt's post-match interview, it's clear he thinks Tobi has potential but judging by his add-on comment "probably not right here right now" I am assuming that he will be going on loan for the foreseeable future. I have no issue with Matt's recent signings having one eye on the present and another further down the line. Matt's taken some educated gambles on the limited resources available to him. Here's hoping they pay off... Having not read this I was worried that this was a sign that one of our centre backs was on his way out but this puts my mind at ease.

Interesting, as Ive been very impressed with Hart in the two games I've seen, altough I wonder if we will miss Milsom's dead ball kicks if he doesn't play. My real concern after yesterday is that Donovan and Omar looked the best of our front options and last year they didn't really score a lot of goals. With no Ajiboye, Tanto or Bennett to chip in, are we going to be very reliant on our midfield and defence to get the goals, as last year? I've not seen enough but I just mean in terms of general excitement levels. The double relegation thing with Hart is playing on my mind for sure. Good point about Milsom. His set pieces are so important to us. I dont know much about Hart or Gamblin but perhaps one is highly regarded with set pieces. I think everyone on this forum was hoping we'd bring in a proven goalscorer with whatever money we got for Ajiboye. That's not going to happen, but Thomas looks like he'll be a very useful player. Yes, I think we'll be relying on goals from all over the pitch again. I very much share the views of a number of others that the main piece missing in the current jigsaw is a consistently reliable goal scoring striker. Yes - we have other players who could well contribute a number of goals from other areas of the pitch - Joe Kizzi with his head, Rob Milsom from set-pieces, Will Randall cutting in from the wing and Ali Smith from outside the box. However, it is the goal scoring striker who often decides tight matches by getting one half chance and putting it away. Although it was only a pre-season friendly, last night was a case in point. Donovan and Harry both had good chances that they put over the bar. Padraig Amond, Woking's centre forward, had one chance and scored. In 4 seasons between 2017 - 2021, Padraig Amond scored over 200 goals for Newport in EFL League 2. With no disrespect to Woking, if a National League team can sign a proven goal scorer of Amond's calibre, you would like to think that we might be able to do so as well. I guess we will have to wait and see who the final striker is that Matt is planning to bring in. I guess that we will have to wait and see who the final striker is that Matt is planning to bring in.

Padraig Amond scored three goals in 23 games for Exeter last season and at 34 he won’t get any better .

Padraig Amond scored 50 goals a season for four seasons for Newport, did he? Wow, no wonder he ended up at Woking!

Amond scored 41 goals in 4 years at Newport, and is 34.

Has no one suggested we sign Dave Tarpey yet?

Amond scored 41 goals in 4 years at Newport, and is 34. Padraig Amond actually scored 60 goals in 4 years at Newport (41 League goals) - not the 200 I previously suggested (misread the stats). However, I wouldn't be unhappy with a 15 goal a season striker at Sutton. Yes he is 34 years old and it didn't really work out for him at Exeter last season - Ronaldo is 37 and some might say that things didn't work out so well for him at Man Utd last season. Doubt if Padraig Amond has been compared with Ronaldo too often in his career - but they are both in their 30s and both can still put the ball in the back of the net - as Amond proved last night. I'm not suggesting that Sutton should try and sign Amond - just that we would benefit from having a player of his type.

Has no one suggested we sign Dave Tarpey yet? We could sign Dave Tarpaulin then we would have cover up front.

In an interview in the last couple of days, Gary Rowett, Millwall's manager, has strongly suggested that a few of Millwall's younger players, including Tanto, will be allowed to go out on loan this season. However, with a number of clubs interested in taking Tanto on loan, the suggestion is that he would be likely to go to a League One club. Tanto came on for the last 15 minutes of Millwall's midweek friendly against Swedish side Hammarby and after a 0-0 draw, the game went to a penalty shoot out - in which Tanto was the only player to miss. Millwall played another friendly today against Ipswich - and Tanto was not included in the matchday squad of 20 players.

I am not worried about U's not signing a striker yet. It may be quite difficult to buy one, and outbid other clubs who are looking. But I am sure we can rent one from a premier league academy / U23 side for 6 months or 1 year. Loan deals usually happen late on.

Since TANTO had that injury mid last season I don't think he returned to the same player prior to his injury.

Let’s move on. There are other good players out there in addition to Tanto.
