Most of the first half we never looked like scoring although our general play was good. Neufville however pounced on to a loose ball ,drove forward and scored to liven up proceedings.A good solo effort. Second half started in the same vein and i wondered how long it would take for Matt to replace the front two. Too long i feared as the ball was just not sticking up front and Mansfield were coming more into the game and eventually equalised. Only then did we make subs and fortunately Tope was on hand to force home a winner which on the balance of play we deserved. Let's hope that Matt can get that extra forward we badly need. Badly need? Badly?
Two of our attacking players just put 2 goals past a very well drilled Mansfield defence and competent looking keeper. And, as you say, on the balance of play we deserved the win. Shall we try to look at the balance of the team as a whole, perhaps? It may be more instructive.

Does anyone know why those in the Tardis area were trapped and unable to leave the ground until 10 past 5? If this is going to be a regular feature going forward then I won't be standing there again. Shame because it was a great view.

Really pleasing win which will have assuaged concerns about our slow start to the season. Lovely run and finish by Josh for his debut goal, and great to see Tope score another late winner just after coming on; he's now our leading scorer! Pity that Will didn't then manage to score our third when he was clean through.
Their equaliser was disappointing as Hawkins was allowed a free header (though, as mentioned above, the award of the free kick that preceded it was dubious to say the least). That goal was somewhat reminiscent of the one that Newport scored (from a long throw) on the opening day, so perhaps more work needs to be done on defending set pieces. That said, we dealt with their threat from corners competently enough.
That win takes us to 13th place, level on points and goal difference with AFC Wimbledon (who lost at home to Barrow) and only three points off a play-off position.

Too lazy to work this out myself but what is Tope’s conversion rate in the league? Eg goals per minutes played?

Balance of team is fine but you need your front two to find the net and they never looked like it.

Three of the five league goals that we have conceded so far this season have been headers. With no disrespect to any of our other defenders, I think that we are missing Ben's aerial presence. Matt said in his post-match interview that the young players that we have sent out on loan will still be training with us for most of the week. I wonder if their loan arrangements allow for them to play for us in the EFL Trophy (none of Cray, Kingstonian, Chesham or Dover are playing on Wednesday night). If not, I think that it's going to be a busy week for Coby and Louis in particular (unless Matt is able to bring in another centre back this week). Seeing Josh's goal yesterday reminded me of a couple of similar goals that David Ajiboye scored last season. Looks like another good bit of recruitment by Matt to me. Do we know if Sam Hart's absence so far this season is due to illness or injury?

First time had a chance to go to the Fan Zone. Nicely done. And a good win. From all the games i've seen (Ifollow and Live), this was the one where I thought we are clicking again.
Enjoyed the day. Went on to Folk in the Park (at Manor PArk). Saw a few Sutton shirts there. Football, Beer and Rock and Roll as the song goes.

We are but we are also missing a trick. For Mansfield corners and free-kicks into our goal area we brought every Sutton player back to defend. Mansfield's tallest and fastest defender Hewitt #4, because he was not needed to cover a counter-attack went forward to join their players in our area and drew Coby to mark him. Their goal was scored by the 12, who was not well marked.
For all Wilson can do jumping with taller opponents in our area he is a waste of time. However if we had left Wilson up-field on the half way line Hewitt would have needed to stay with him. Coby then might have marked the scorer.

So, our vloggers and anti football (Mansfield's pre match forum thread) once again overcame their apparently more refined approach. Shocking from ref today. No idea when to play advantage. Massively inconsistent especially with use of cards. Appeared not to know the difference between a foul and a fair tackle (the free kick they scored from looked a good tackle from my angle). Super sub Tope wins the day again. He is improving too as he scored with his first touch today. Against Barrow it was his second. What a cheat Quinn is too. Caused the first half handbags, feigning injury to try and get Easty in trouble when he Easty had pulled out. Still, previous with Gunter of AFCW already this season. But I suppose to the average Mansfield fan that's not anti football. Not sure what the hold up was for in second half. Quinn appeared to be involved with that too. Sutton 3 Mansfield 0. Great 3 points. I had it from 'on high' in the stand that the long hold up was because a comment of a racially offensive nature had been heard. From where I stand just below La Curva I did comment to my grandson that there appeared to be a certain racial incident when the ref started to conflab with the fourth official et al. The main reason I believed that was that previously one of the Mansfield players stroked the head of one of our players and just previous to that a certain Mansfield player pulled the hair of another of our players, the fact that both of our players were black( sorry if that offends anyone) to me smacks of racial intolerance to put it nicely. It will be interesting to see what comes of these actions if I am correct, if I am wrong I apologise to Mansfield but after seeing their various actions yesterday I personally don’t have any qualms about slating them. Sorry if this is long winded.

So that's at least one goal in each of the 6 halves we have played against Mansfield... Can we play them every week?

A good game yesterday. And a great result. The first goal was equal to David's goal at Newport last season. Congratulations to Josh for his first goal. Also Congratulations to Tope for his second of the season. As been said earlier I don't think that Donovan or Kwame would have scored. I have said before, it's no good playing Donovan as a target man.Yes use him up field when there are corners against us. The defence has to be looked at regarding free kicks against us.Is that 5 goals scored by headers? Yes we will miss Ben. How the ref gave free kicks for perfect tackles I do not know. And how the ref and 4th official missed the stamping on Harry in front of them.
I have written this post hoping that I will not be "got at" as in previous posts. ( some want to learn the meaning of Fomum,Debate, agreement etc.)

After 6 games this season
W2 D2 L2 pts 8 F 6 A 6 gd 0
After 6 games last season
W2 D2 L2 pts 8 F 5 A 5 gd 0
There's literally nothing in it aside from scoring one less goal and conceding one less goal.

3 headed goals in 6 games? Hardly a glaring weakness is it? Occasionally the opposition are going to score. Our defensive record is good. Yes the management and players job is to try to ensure we concede as few as possible but I don’t think we need create issues that don’t exist.

Shame because it was a great view. Blame Tope! He was signing autographs and taking selfies with the young fans for several minutes after the players had left the field.
