A very poor performance lacking creativity and endeavour against a side low on confidence waiting to be slayed.
Unlike recent games we created nothing, and I think the clue there is Wilson, as I said a week or so ago, he may not be scoring but he does create. Kousaai didn't get any service at all, so you can't blame him today. I wonder if available Kousaai / Wilson could be the answer?

I’d agree in changing Lovatt or Barden for Beautyman on Tues. In the absence of Smith we’re not going to be able to play him and Eastmond every game. It’s in our interests to keep Lovatt match sharp as we’ll need him. Also wouldn’t mind seeing Kendall get a start to see what he offers whilst Wilson absent. Certainly wouldn’t judge him on one start against Orient with a much changed side. No reflection on Kylian, he will keep developing and is doing well at such a young age with no experience even in the 2 levels below.

Further to the striker / goalscorer. Question Would any of you change the style / system of how we play? It seems reading past posts that this position is the problem but of course I could be wrong.

Don't like to come on here just to moan, especially since I know we're blessed with a squad and management team who work really hard and really care about us doing well week in week out. That I always appreciate. But boy am I sick and tired of this stoppage time curse

I wasn't at today's game so can't say much, but note that this season we've now conceded five goals in or after the 90th minute. The number of goals that we've scored at that stage is zero. Any argument that there's no imbalance here is delusional.
What all those very late goals have in common is that they were conceded in away games. So there's something not right about the way we see out matches on other grounds. Is this down to game management? Fitness? Or is it a failure to appreciate how a home team, needing a goal, will push hard for one in the closing stages? Whatever the explanation, we need a counter-strategy. Over to you, Matt and Jason!

Nothing on the bench while others send in 5 good players at game ends. It’s that simple. Lost 7-8 good players (Wyatt, Davis, Olaofe, Benett, Ajiboye, Korboa, plus Goodlife and Smith) and brought in only Neufvile - all others are not EFL level, at least so far.

We know that we're never going to be amongst the wealthiest clubs in the EFL - and that's accepted - but if we want to continue to be competitive in the EFL, Matt needs to be given sufficient funds to bring in EFL standard players when/if our better players leave. Matt has performed miracles in getting this club into the EFL - but there is only so much that he can do without the players of the quality required. For those who regularly post on this board who say we don't need a striker because we can score goals from all over the pitch, how many goals have our defenders scored so far this season? Will and Harry will chip in with goals if they stay fit because they are quality players - as is Josh - but that is not enough. Some of our Summer signings have been sent out on loan as they are presumably not considered ready for the first team as yet - others are still here but not fit enough to play. Right now, we look like a non-league team punching above its weight under the leadership of a very good manager. I'm sure that I'll be attacked for this post by the usual suspects - but just saying what many of us can clearly see.

Unfortunately with a squad where the starting eleven picks itself we will be predictable. All managers unless they are niaive will watch video and know for example Randall nearly always comes inside. Corners go to the back post for John/Kizzi, Bugiel is the target for all throw ins etc No goal threat from strikers. . Even if we do change players they are like for like.
Not at the game yesterday but in matches where we sit deep to defend for long periods we invite pressure and this eventually fails.
Are we too predictable?
Maybe not a fault of the management team but an issue of resource?

Must agree with halfimet and his comments. And as with other posts. Yes we are too predictable. I think we play a 4 4 2 style of play . If you take out Omar as our target man that leaves only one other forward who as been said previously is not getting the results ( ie goals ) Have just seen Matt's interview and even he said what we are all thinking. On to Tuesday. I am sorry to say in such a short time I can't see a change round to our away form. But again I could be wrong.Hears hoping!!

Agree about predictability.
To take one small example from yesterday - in the second half Gills defenders stopped bothering to mark Omar from the long balls pumped up to him. They just waited for the flick on and mopped it up. No chance for Kylian to get anything from that.
Every knows that we play mostly a long ball game or hope that Will or Josh can create something from the wings. Yesterday both got nowhere against their respective defenders. What we really lack is any cutting edge through the middle of the park with some quicker more incisive forward passes rather than sideways and backwards. I have always wondered whether Omar wouldn't be better off playing there rather than him being a target man.

Yesterday we didn't create a lot.Omar wasn't even in the game in the first half but a lot better in the second period. We were unable to get a central midfielder up into an attacking position and relied upon getting the ball down the wing and putting crosses in. Gillingham had some very good defenders and snaffled up everything we put in the box.
This was an off day and no need to panic about personnel yet.

Again I must agree with ganderpoke. His second paragraph raises some good points.

It's time to try some new ideas. We're too predictable. I don't see what we've got to lose mixing it up with a three man midfield on the road seeing as we are utterly woeful away from home. Barden was signed as a holding midfielder, stick him behind and give the other midfielders a chance to get forward. They're usually outnumbered. Will and Josh wide in a three man attack has to be worth a try. Every opponent knows exactly what we are going to do. It's difficult to stop when we play with intensity at home but it's not working away and I don't see that changing much.

We are competitive in L2. We're still closer to a play off spot than we are to a relegation spot.
As supporters although we hate losing like any would, we need to manage our own expectations. We should therefore be happy with a mid table position.
The frustration is that we're losing games we shouldn't be losing. It should have been 3 points instead of 0 at Doncaster, the same at home to Salford and at least 1 point at both Swindon and Gillingham. Without silly mistakes we should be sitting in 4th rather than 14th.
Iron those out and we'll be fine this season. Play like we did yesterday and we won't be. But I doubt very much we are going to play like that very often.

As noted above, we are lacking experience up front (more so with Donovan suspended). Matt might be thinking about starting with both Enzio and Will out wide and Josh through the middle alongside Omar. There's then the option of moving Josh back out to the wing if one of the less experienced strikers is brought on late in the game.
