Once the goal went in that was that. Non existent as an attacking force today, looked like we pinned hopes on nil nil. Guess we never expected anything from today so anything we did get was a bonus. But Orient really haven’t done much to get the win, good finish to punish the first error.

Two really poor goals to give them the win. It sums our season up really, toothless up front and very poor defending at times. We were well in that one until two bad mistakes gifted them the win. On too the next one. ⚽️⚽️⚽️

I have been saying we have problems upfront since the pre-season friendlies to one form of ridicule or another on here, but today it was plain to see.
I don't blame our defence, once a side see you have nothing upfront and can't hurt them you are going to come under pressure, and it has been a continued theme all season. One goal from open play in 7 matches tells its own story.
I was hoping that Kouassi was going to be the answer, but clearly a striker has to be 1st on the new years shopping list.

I have been saying we have problems upfront since the pre-season friendlies to one form of ridicule or another on here, but today it was plain to see. OS, apart from the die-hard loyal supporter who will hear no negative comments, it has been abundantly clear that we have a striker (goal scorer) problem. That is very different to pointing fingers at our strikers as if they are the problem… In my (admittedly) amateur opinion, we do not play to our strikers strengths. Donovan is not a target man. Omar is only effective if he is flicking on to a striker who can play off of that. It is pointless us breaking forward if the runners are not running into channels where they know the ball is going to be played - or, if the strikers are, the balls are not getting there. As I said, I’m no expert, but from the terrace it looks to me as if we are just not executing these game plans correctly or have no game plan for our strikers at all. The fact is, we have not had a regular goal scorer since Dan Fitchett, which is now six years and counting. Mind you, that hasn’t stopped us having ridiculous cup runs and a major promotion…

What you actually implied was to leave out Donovan (he didn't play today, we didn't score) and pin your hopes on a 19 y.o. still learning the game (I see you have realised the folly of leaving all that responsibility on his shoulders now). Replacing Ajiboye, Bennett and Olaofe was always going to be very difficult without the budget to do it with and so it is proving. The goals aren't coming from other sources like they were last season either. I thought we did ok up to their first today, I think that excellent strike was their first effort on target. It may have come from an error but boy, it was some shot. Orient probably had a good shout for a pen in the first half but by then they should have been down to ten for two yellows. The last time Carl Brook officiated this fixture he waved the cards at Sutton players with gay abandon. He has calmed down since then and a better ref for it but he bottled it today.

We missed him again today as we did when he missed 3 matches for his ban. Just seen MarkF's comments above, what I have implied is that Donavan needs to play but maybe not as the main man upfront.

Hello people, that was a match which won't live long in the memory. Your 4-4-2 (or close to it) made life very difficult for us, we try to get Smyth and Archibald into play from out wide but the middle was so heavily populated that we couldn't find a decent pass. What 'OS' said (above) struck me as the crux of the game, the yellow shirts appeared to have no real threat up front and that just gave us the confidence to put a couple more men in forward positions. Our two goals required major cock-ups from your defence so we didn't really look that convincing. Frankly, nearly all our games have been like that, opposing fans are often justified with the "nothing special" tag but 7 points clear at the top and something like 16 points clear of 4th place would suggest something is right. Let me wish you good hunting for the rest of the season, I do agree with the comments posted above though, you need to threaten much more up front. Meantime, we need to avoid another complete collapse - like the one we did last season.

In a 4 minute post match interview, Matt referred three times to us lacking 'that little bit of quality' when we went forward - as he does just about every post match interview. We must do something about this in January for the reasons given by Os and Backhome2016 (and others). Our recruitment - that was very good in the Summer before our first season in the EFL - was very poor last Summer. Our first choice front two currently have 4 goals between them - and the goals that our defenders were scoring from set-pieces last season are not being repeated this season. We have a striker on loan who hardly ever plays - which is of no benefit either to the player or either club. We have a winger who seems to have played about as many minutes for his country as his club and a young winger on loan who seems to have lost his way after a promising start. We have two young strikers with 'potential' - but they are really players for the future - not the present. As for Kwame, does a 'hand injury' really need to keep a player out for so long? I agree with Mark F that we are not in a position to replace the quality of the striking options we lost last season due to budgetary constraints - but we need to offload some of our current strikers if we can and bring in players that can at least deliver more now than our current options appear able to do.

With our attacking options so limited, it was always going to be a tall order to succeed away against the side not only top of the table but with the best defensive record in League Two. Our few high balls into the opposition box were comfortably collected by the tall Lawrence Vigouroux.
Our 4-5-1 formation contained Orient for an hour, but then a lapse by our stand-in right back let in Paul Smyth who curled in their opening goal. Matt quickly reverted to 4-4-2, Tope coming on for Harry, but that gave us no joy and an unfortunate own goal sealed the win for the O's
This Sutton team has shown in the recent games against Rochdale, Carlisle and Colchester that they can harvest points by scoring once per match, and it's that gritty quality that's kept us clear of the relegation zone. We've got two more games to go (both against sides below us in the table) before the transfer window opens. It's no secret that Matt wants to bring in some new players, and I've little doubt that he already knows who they are. We can also expect some outward movement in January. With Ben Goodliffe and Aaron Pierre now back in training, there are reasons to be optimistic about the second half of the season.
