Onto other matters. I was a bit irritated with the Mansfield Stewards. From the first moment they were looking at us like we should not be there and IMO had an unreasonable manner about them. I think after we've made national news about how we've got some dodgy fans and the club has made an official statement for fans to improve their behaviour, and not smuggle in flares etc. it's inevitable that we're going to be looked at closely. I personally didn't think the two ladies were in any way antagonistic, just keeping a close eye on what was going on.

As a 61 year old, I rather object to being patted down to the level that I was at Mansfield. But what can you do other than make verbal observation to that end?
But not as much as hearing that one of our number was politely asked to leave after reacting to being thrown up over. Apparently he was refused the use of the gents to try and clean up in although a woman steward did come to his aid.
How can they justify treating a victim like that? One of the stewards wanted to let him back in but Mansfield control said no.
I raised that with the stewards after the match. One of them stated they had a good SAG report. Maybe, but isn't that just a box ticking excercise? No empathy whatsoever.
The alleged circumstances as to how the two young lads got in such a state is also beyond my reasoning. If true, appalling irresponsibility.
There was a thread on here about bad language recently but to me that is insignificant to the incidents that occurred on Saturday.
It should be said that from what I could tell, most of the younger element there on Saturday were fine.

Yes he did point out that sign. But as I said, I just wondered if Maidenhead's was older. Either league or non league. A simple Google search could've told you Field Mill is comfortably older than York Road. However, Maidenhead's claim to fame is that their ground is said to be continually used for the longest period by the same team. If I'm right, we played at GGL before Mansfield Town first played at Field Mill, although I think we both made them our respective home grounds in the same season (1919-20)

I believe you're right. Before that there were other football clubs in Mansfield that occupied the ground

I personally didn't think the two ladies were in any way antagonistic, just keeping a close eye on what was going on. Given the police advised Sutton fans at half time that any of our fans getting the train home should be escorted to the station by police due to their worry of about 100/200 Mansfield fans who are often "problematic", I would have thought they should have been looking at their own fans, arms folded with a sulk. I agree flairs are stupid and only harm the club with potential fines, but I have never seen away fans visiting Gander Green Lane escorted to the station by Sutton police, to protect them from Sutton Fans.

Maybe I was lucky, or just looked like a harmless old codger, but I had no concerns at all at Mansfield. I found the stewards polite and helpful, and there wasn't a hint of trouble on my unescorted walk back to the station.

I found the stewards polite and helpful, and there wasn't a hint of trouble on my unescorted walk back to the station. Perhaps, or perhaps because the police were on the case, nothing happened. It was the police who advised a few fans I spoke with to follow them as they have been having problems, so unless they were just winding people up, there has to be something to it. I did see 2 Mansfield fans scuffle with one a couple of the stewards by the coach right after the game and one actually hit or threw a punch at a steward before it was diffused and they walked off. Others on the coach may have also seen this. I'm glad your experience was better than some of the others I spoke with. The burgers and drink prices however? top-notch!
