Regardless of injuries and illness we were well and truly second best. As for next season, I do think this match highlighted a few points… Defensively we are quite sound. Apart from their number seven they didn’t have great joy. With Ben, Louis, John Barden and Rob Milsom missing (for large periods of the season) our remaining defenders have shown we have great depth here. As others have said, up front is a worry. I won’t name names but some are not up to this level or are not ready yet. Big rethink needed. And often the strikers have been fed little from midfield. Creativity sadly lacking. We also have an ageing issue. Out wide we have threats to the oppo but often our players are isolated or do the same thing which is easily snuffed out. At times it is as if once we get onto the edge of our opponents area that we stop play, regroup, and lose momentum, with fluidity going out of the window. A bit of a head scratcher for the club this summer, balancing stadium costs with players contracts. What is obvious is that this summers recruitment needs to be far better than last. Only Sam Hart (after a beginning blighted by ill health) seems to have been a success. I agree but I think Rose has been a success too.

I’m sure the club have everything in hand, in the order it needs to be done. New players, players leaving, new contracts to be signed, new stand to be built, finances being balanced, to name a few, (and in no order of course) and as usual the club (hopefully AB) will give a proper update like in previous seasons.

Yes Boomboom, Rose has been a great success - my mind was on outfield players but should not have admitted him from my deliberations. Thanks for the nudge.

Only Sam Hart (after a beginning blighted by ill health) seems to have been a success. I agree but I think Rose has been a success too. In addition to that, I think the focus of the summer recruitment was on youth and bringing ones for the future in. We started the season with 9 out of 11 players from the previous season (only Rose and Neufville were there for the departed Ajiboye and Bouzanis). We missed the play offs by a whisker so there wasn't any huge need to rebuild the squad, so we got the likes of Tope in. After the early injuries we picked up a couple who left virtually no impression. I think we could say the only real disappointment was Kwame. It's harder to call whether our Jan recruitment was better. Last season we didn't get anyone and it bit us in March. This season we did and although it started brightly, it's pretty obvious that all had fallen away in terms of form within the first month (for various reasons).

If we need the seating to increase by end of next season surely it would be better to do it this pre season, as if we shut down half the stadium mid season we may have to reduce ticket sales due to limited capacity which will ultimately cost us. I imagine with the working involved that pretty much most of the park side of the stadium will be closed off? Find me half a million in the next 3 weeks and I will start it at 4pm on 8th May. Alternatively, if we need to do it at some other point, then we also need to maintain a capacity above 5,000 throughout next season for every EFL game. Not every conundrum has an easy solution, but we have always been willing listeners. I see Wrexham are getting £25m for their shiny new stand from Government funds! How the other half live.

Sutton Council need to pull their finger out. We have done our job by putting Sutton on the league football map with more and more people coming into Sutton every other week. A bit of support won't hurt at all, even if a bit of a loan to get this other stand done and dusted. Dorking also has had some help from the council.

If we make the VBS a ULEZ we may get a grant from the mayor.
I think we also have Brian Reynolds who is a member of the 1898 club.
