The reason that Wrexham are getting funding from government, is that they want to use the ground for Wales international matches. So the ground needs up grading to the international standards. If the main stand eventually needs replacing, Im sure the club U’S would go down all avenues, same as the park side. ⚽️⚽️⚽️ We’ve had England C internationals at GGL do they count for something? I already know the answer. 10 out of 10 for trying though 🤞

Couldn't the London Borough of Sutton apply to become an independent nation and then GGL would have to be the national stadium - we'd get grants to update it then - alternatively we could apply to become Welsh 😂

All joking aside the football club are now bringing not inconsiderable sums of cash into the council’s economy and a bit of help would potentially assist in retaining that spending or indeed increasing it. But appreciate there is plenty of other stuff to spend money on at the moment (and always). Who knows, they may be assisting already in some way. They also have provided a long term lease presumably on pretty favourable terms.

1.1 Subject to paragraph 1.2 below, the ground capacity and number of seats under cover, as would be recorded in the Club’s safety certificate when in membership of the League and taking into account all other provisions of these Regulations, must meet the following minimum criteria:
Capacity
Seats
Qualification Criteria 4,000 (with ability to reach 5000)
500 (with ability to reach 1,000)
Admission Criteria 5,000
1,000 (with ability to reach 2,000)
Membership Criteria 5,000
2,000

I assume Qualification was during the Conference Season
Admission is the first season in L2
Membership must be August 2024
EDIT : Here it is
1.2 A new member club entering League Two must comply with the Qualification Criteria and has until the 30 April in its first Season as a Member to meet the Admission Criteria set out in the above table .
1.3 Where such Club remains a Member of The League that Club shall have until 30 April in the third Season from the date of its admission to comply with the requirement to achieve a capacity in accordance with the Membership Criteria .

Seems with permission that 30/4 extended to the summer off season as long as ready to go for year 4. That is the presumption at the moment.

The tricky bit for us as a club and i think this has been mentioned before ,will be to start preparation work whilst maintaining the capacity of at least 5000.

On the Sutton Podcast it was mentioned that it’s not a secret that the away fans will not be located at the Collingwood end for much longer. I’m guessing at least for next season.
Anyone know anything

One presumes that Crystal Palace Women playing at VBS (GGL) next season will be extra revenue for the club - hiring fee and the club getting the lions share of food and drink sales.
Also assume the pitch now it is established and capable of taking the additional wear and tear.
Looks like shrewd business. However as with all women's football at the higher levels why aren't all their matches played at their own home grounds?

Even at our level, our women are often shunted off to Redhill. I don’t see how they and Palace can both be fitted in (based on last season anyway).

Anyone know anything But i hope that the Gander Green Lane can still be retained as the traditional home end for Sutton supporters.

Palace women play 11 home league games a season. 2 of those will be at Selhurst. Don't think it's going to have a huge impact, especially with a new pitch.

It did seem last season that a number of women’s matches were called off, not because the pitch was unplayable, but for fears it would be damaged.
Meanwhile at South Park’s splendid 3G, which hosted a number of our women’s matches last season, they have been playing 2 matches on a Saturday with Epsom & Ewell or Frenches Athletic playing at noon and Sparks at 3. Not to mention Chagos Islands v Falkland Islands.

Suspect all this rain and not much playing on it it will also help it be more resistant to stress if we get a European heatwave and a lot of frost in the winter.
