It seems the attempt to tackle time wasting is disastrous. All it needs is a bit of common sense, the fans know when time wasting is going on so how comes the refs cant? I must say I was amazed how little time was added yesterday after the amount at our home matches. There seemed much more time wasted at Barrow and just 2 minutes 1st half and I think 6 in the 2nd? Not that I wasn’t grateful as it meant could stay to the end before the train dash!

I'm not going to comment on whether it was a red card or not because I, and pretty much everyone sitting in the Sutton end could see what happened. What I will comment on was us after the red card. Last season every time without exception there was a red card in out game the same thing happened - either we failed to take advantage of the extra player, or we just collapsed. Last week we ruthlessly put the first of those to bed, and really aside from 3 minutes of a dip in concentration I thought we did pretty well. So much so that we took the lead with a really well taken goal from Angol, who had his best game in a Sutton short for a while. Whilst I totally understand the reason he was taken off, after that we probably were not going to get back into the game with Tope looking out of his depth in that sort of scenario - not his fault, but when you're playing a lone striker with 10 men, you need a big unit up front and with Angol, Smith and O'Brien not available, we didn't have a huge choice - oddly enough it may have been more effective with Dundo on. Let's hope the players are not too knackered for a Tues night game against one of the stronger sides in the league this season.
Despite the result, I think we can be pretty proud of the effort and shape we kept, and like I said, just a short lack of concentration led to defeat.
And those of you who are already on Smith's back without seeing what happened, I think you need to take a hard look at yourself. The guy has already scored 2 in 2, is proving a handful in the box for opposing defenders and is exactly the kind of player we've been crying out for. If you want to hold your position on him, please make sure you let us know you said exactly the same when Bennett did something supposidly similar at Rochdale 2 seasons ago, or Wilson last season, or your criticism of the player who had the worst disciplinary record in the whole of league 2 last season.

I'm not going to comment on whether it was a red card or not because I, and pretty much everyone sitting in the Sutton end could see what happened. Wouldn’t that be a reason to comment on it? We’ve only had 1 (?) view and nothing on camera. I take each incident as it comes. Wilson’s one last year for example was brain dead and cost us 3 points. He would know that, everybody does. Unprofessional and we can’t afford those kind of things. Bugiel’s red against Stockport, very very harsh and poor decision by the ref in my opinion. No idea where Smith’s one lies, there didn’t seem much of a fuss created by any of their players so unlikely to have been serious. If a little flick out or something then he should know better and be more in control of his emotions, particularly at this stage in his career. I’m not getting on his back, looks a good player, but we need to keep him on the pitch, not be a man down and not have him suspended. As you suggest there is also a knock on impact for Tuesday against likely, at a minimum, a top 7 side this season.

I don't think that has been any real lack of consistency. When its off the ball it is more dumb and worthy of criticism. It does not seem like Matt has defended him, so I think it is what it is. If its proven he is innocent, I am sure folks will be the first to put their hands up, and I am sure Smith is big enough to deal with that. Just to add, when Bennett was sent off I recall reading a few similar comments criticising him, and I think with Wilson it was during a time where people had began to stop rating him and was hoping Tope or someone else would get their chance, whether that was wrong or right.. So he was hardly swamped with support.. As I said in an earlier post. Within the last three games we have seen the best and the worse of Smith, lets hope that during the rest of the season, beyond the next three games of which he will miss, we will continue to see the best.

One thing you can say if guilty , is that he won’t be doing that a gain, Matt won’t tolerate it. We played pretty well with Angol playing his best game for a while, so we cannot be to down with the result just a bit frustrated as we were winning with ten or so minutes to go. Now on too Tuesday and another tough game. ⚽️⚽️⚽️

The angles were all wrong and most of us were looking at the ball.

I am sure Smith is as disappointed as anyone. Just such a shame after such a strong start.

Just found out my sisters fella's work colleague knows Smiths other half. And they reckon the Barrow player stood on his foot, Smith reacted and kicked back, the fourth official saw it but not the initial stomp. So it seems the Barrow player was lucky not to see red too...

I was wondering who the Barrow player was and does he have any “previous” as it has been stated that he shouted out during the alleged offence thereby making sure that someone would hear?

Do we know what the ref gave as a reason for the red?

Private, what does it say please? I note we failed with an appeal per match preview for tonight.
