Not on current housing prices...

Obviously there would be some inflation involved in costs and clearly this was just a random figure. Just saying it could be worth a look at and I don't think this gent's view point re. spectator viewing should just be completely shot down.
I also believe there is no reason why we can't extend the pitch to make it bigger, which wouldn't cost as much. This would make for better football (players more tired, more space, more goals), would get everyone closer to the action without such a huge outlay (though I recognise it would still take significant money). It would also give us a significant home advantage if we learnt to play well on a big pitch!! I would think we have a lot of room we could take before we could get to competition limits as I'm sure there are.

Thanks, Gareth , for talking some sense; i am sure that some steps could be taken initially without incurring vast expense - ie as you say extend width of pitch to max permitted ; bring in the side hordings by a couple of metres; ultimately the stand opposite the main stand would have to be replaced , but i do not think that would cost anything like £150K - costs could be kept low if supporters helped by supplying skilled and unskilled labour.

I believe extending the pitch would be costly. You also need to allow room for the floodlighting. I'm sure the pitch move has been considered.

As the council own the ground (I don't think I'm wrong in saying they do) wouldn't there be a limit as to what could be done?

Yep, and the locals complain about the noise - stupid considering they moved next to a football ground...

Since the alterations would not affect local residents, i cannot see that even resiting a new stand would cause any problem even with the jobsworthies at the council; ...Stewart.... have a look at where the floodlights are next time you are down the lane ....they could remain where they are.

I'd estimate that replacing the Rec-side terrace with a new one nearer the pitch would indeed cost in the region of £150,000. To build a new covered terrace at the Collingwood Road end would probably cost in excess of £100k. There are technical reasons, according to the groundsman, why it is difficult to enlarge the playing area. All of these issues are covered in a business plan prepared for the directors when we first joined Conference South. We have a large, open stadium for historic reasons and changing the layout is desirable, for many reasons, but will be expensive. The Securicor Terrace was a great first step and we added new floodlights, but we simply haven't been able yet to take a second step.

So, it's up to 250k now just to build new terracing. As I said before, bleedin' obvious why its not been done before - money - & with gates currently averaging less than 500 is there any point unless one of us does win the Lotto?

Why would we need a new Rec-side terrace.I for one who normally stands there have a perfectly adequate view of the game and i have never heard anyone there say that we ought to be closer to the action. We do in fact have a large, open stadium and many supporters appreciate that and we can cope with a large crowd if ever we get a decent cup run going.

People keep waffling on about extrordinary costs when , as i have said, the aim of bringing supporters closer to the action CAN be achieved at minimal cost - i am guessing here, but something in the order of £50000. delboy - we dont need a rec-side terrace ; have you not been to Bromley's ground?!

The trust are currently working on a project for the Collingwood End. I hope to have a section up on the trust website giving a bit more detail about this shortly and I'll leave a post here when it's done. But trust me, any work, even to square off that end and put up a replica of the GGL end terrace would cost a lot more than 50k!
In fact, I'm sure that GGL terrace cost more that that to put up a good few years back........

Just enlarging the pitch is not as simple an option as it sounds. There would need to be extra foundations and drainage etc put in and why would we then spend tens of thousands on that when what we actually need is a completely new pitch, and that would be over 100k. I assure you, this has been looked at in depth by the board and we do have some idea of what we want to do. Now, if Mr D can just get us through to a game at Old Trafford some day......

I didn't say we didn't need a rec-side terrace.I said we didn't need a new one! Yes Bromley have a massive terrace but i don't find their ground that appealing especially when the weathers cold!
