Efl embargo ! doubt this would happen without some warning to the club . As a shareholder I trust the chairman will provide a full statement and explain the club's plan to deal with the debt. Guess we can all help by buying a ticket for this Saturday's game spending more in the bars etc. Would show support to the club and to the players if we can get a crowd well on 2000 on Saturday..

Methinks you might be jumping the gun in assuming Sutton owe HMRC although everyone knows the tax man never makes mistakes, besides that I am am sure that the Chairman will/would inform relevant parties when necessary if any problems exist. As for everyone buying a ticket for Saturday and filling the bar I would think that winning £41,000 would be more helpful.

Better with 2000 plus fans encouraging the players then.

How many players do we have who'd played professional football. EFL rules state we can still loan (w/out sweeteners) or bring in free agents if less than 23, which is suspect it is. As an example, Dundo's 5 minutes against Hayes and Yeading counts even though it was unprofessional, but appearences at Wembley in Pizza Cup would not.

This is really, really bad news imho. There's not one club that this has been placed on that wasn't in a torrid financial state.
Reading, Wigan, Derby, Sheffield Wed's, Gillingham, Huddersfield Town, Swindon town, etc...they all ended up with new owners, or are selling up/ sold up.
A lot of them were not paying staff. Points deductions etc
Need news from the Club pronto.

We only managed just over 1300 fans for our last 1st round home fa cup match, so I hope your confidence is proved right.

If this is the case, then my comment elsewhere about not being able to afford a change of manager (I personally don't think we need to) is more accurate than I thought.
I would rather the club see me out than me see it.
Let's hope the new director has brought a few willing shillings with him.

Agree with others on here that this is really significant news and I’m amazed the club has not sought to clarify this situation nor comment on the new Director. Indeed I wonder if these two news items are at all linked. The next stage from embargo is generally a failure of the the club to pay players wages and that leads to points deduction - we need that like a hole in the head.
Whilst I too hope this is all some sort of ‘misunderstanding’ I think those who immediately adopt the ‘tax man has got it wrong again’ stance are probably the same as those believe that winning one game at home means we will automatically start shooting up the table and there is nothing more fundamental to worry about.
We need a statement from the club asap.

The problem with this is that there has been no information beyond the EFL page. Which technically it really won't affect us, it leaves a lot of questions about why we are under embargo, allowing space to speculate. In normal (and most other) circumstances there are some things us fans actually don't need to know. But I think this is an exception some clarification is needed, mostly because of people jumping to conclusions.
I'm not going to add to any speculation on how and why we are under embargo, but I totally agree that the club needs to put out a statement because this sort of speculation will do a lot of damage among the unity of the fanbase.

So I've had a look at the EFL Regulations, specifically 17.3 (as mentioned in the embargo) - the full wording is as follows: In other words, we've defaulted on an owing to HMRC. Fortunately, 17.1 specifically clarifies what causes a Default Event: Not overly clear, but in essence, we've failed to pay one of PAYE and National Insurance Contributions, VAT, Corporation Tax, or some other owing to HMRC.
Now, I know some people are suggesting that this is perhaps a HMRC mistake - a reasonable suggestion (after all, who hasn't had a tax rebate or tax bill at the end of the year?). However, 17.8 refers to... Basically, if HMRC screwed up, I imagine the club would be contesting the claim - if this were the case, the embargo wouldn't show, as the EFL wouldn't consider it due to HMRC until the matter was resolved. Which basically means the club seem to have accepted we do owe the money.
Needless to say, I'm very concerned. We've always prided ourselves on financial stability and sustainability, so to be hit with a Registration Embargo is worrying. For the club to have not said anything is even more worrying, as again, we've always been great at transparency. I hope we hear from the club, very soon.

Obviously no details or facts at hand but would be pretty confident the next stage is it generally gets resolved, we only tend to hear of the ones that escalate. Agree something needs to be clarified.

I share the concerns that others have expressed but will add four other conflicting thoughts:
First, have off-field issues (possible late, or even non, payment of players' wages) had an effect on on-field performances which now appear to being turned round?
Second, the embargo has come about not long into all that long into the season after the budget has been set, players acquired and the management team expanded so what has changed in the meantime?
Third, we brought Dominic Gape in just a week or two ago which it appears would not be permitted now and suggesting that money wasn't all that tight then.
Fourth, does the decision to dispense with physical programmes so early in the season indicate there are problems?

As there is enough negativity at the moment, which we could do without, I deleted what I was going to post.
I will just say. While maybe we don't need to panic, Surely, given the latest bits of important news we have heard from other official sources, we should get an update from the club soon.
