Big game so the capital letters are out ^. FA Cup 2nd round weekend and what an occasion it should be, a near sell-out at GGL I imagine. We originally thought it would be Barnsley but they got booted out and Horsham were reinstated.
This year Horsham or the ‘Hornets’ have equalled their best run in the FA Cup getting to the second round. Back in 07/08 they eventually lost to Swansea in a replay. A quick check on one of my favoured resources FCHD - we’ve played Horsham once before in the Cup 65/66 coming through in a replay at GGL.
Mixed success in recent years for us at this stage, a meek exit at Bristol Rovers a couple of years ago, the late late Deacon winner to get past Cheltenham in 2016 and the Griffiths penalty miss in another loss to Notts bloody County in 2011.
Intrigued to see what kind of team we’ll be putting out this weekend given a stack of injuries in the squad, Kizzi and Sowunmi centre halves? Hoping Milsom might be able to return to left back as that looks a troubled position at present. Would be happy with Clay and Beautyman in centre mid - both were brilliant against Crewe on Tuesday. I’d give Patrick some minutes for this one.
Fingers crossed the weather doesn’t impact the game going ahead. Highs of 3 with overnight frost on Saturday morning.

Looking at the weather forecast for Saturday. Will the covers be used to protect the pitch? Looking at the number of injuries we have. Matt and Jason have got a hard job to select the team for Saturday. We all wish the squad can get a result and progress on to the next round.

I am sure the club are prepared. I noticed the grounds staff were getting the covers sorted as I left the ground after closing the shop today.

Depends on our injuries. We have some good young lads on stand-by, and could give them a great opportunity to play alongside some other experienced players should the squad be really thin. I am thinking Arnold Jackson, Kizzi, Sowunmi, Harry, Clay, N'Gussenn, Coley Smith, Obrien Very thin at the back. Unless Goodliffe's knock was precautionary or John has recovered from his knock. Milsom sounds like he won't be back this side of Christmas, Hart should be close? If we can put out a decent side I will have to say our harder-to-beat form should see us win this. An early goal might be vital. Perhaps he might put out a more attacking side and really go for it as there are more options up front than at the back.

Could Hart play wearing a cast? I assume not. Often seen this happen though.

Didn't David A. Play with a cast last season?

On another thread there was a mention that Dion might be able to fill in at full back. Does anyone know if he has that capacity, or was that just wishful thinking?

The formation could be dictated by who's available. 3 at the back and maybe Jackson and Patrick out wide.
And hopefully Arnold has learned how to kick the ball more centrally.

I raised it as a suggestion but that was only based on me scratching my head trying to find one. I doubt he’s played there before as a professional and doubt he’ll do so Saturday! Maybe Matt will feel N’Guessan can do it as he did ok when going there Tuesday and Harry and Clay can do the middle of midfield. Tricky game for us this one after the efforts Tuesday. It’ll feel like a home game for them with the travelling support. They’ll look at us and say there isn’t too much to fear and they’ll fancy having a run at our defence. We’ll have to play really well to progress. And we won’t get a huge amount of credit should we do so. Wouldn’t surprise me if we see a few goals in this one. Big carrot of course for progression, huge game.

Can’t see Matt switching formation in a million years in such a big game. He’d rather slot one slightly out of position in my opinion.

I think Matt said at the time that he would only be in the cast for 2 or 3 weeks and he should be able to keep fitness up as its only his hand, so as soon as the cast comes off he can hit the gound running, so he can't be too far off now..

We need to win this one. The money generated could be the difference between us staying up or going down.

I do know 'banana skin' and Horsham will be very motivated, and so on. But our guys will be fitter, more skillful, better trained and bigger. That's just how the leagues break. We should win this. Even if they give us a tough ride, we should have the abilities to pull this off. Fatal words?

I’ve got to say that if we lose against Horsham will do not deserve to be in the FA Cup . I know this sounds disrespectful of Horsham and I do not mean to be but as an EFL club we must win …… and I believe that we will . Win tomorrow and the following Saturday and our awful season will feel suddenly start to feel a whole lot better .
My prediction is SUFC 3 Horsham 0 . Ban me from the ground if I have jinxed the lads !
