There's already been some discussion about this match on another thread, so it's overdue its own!
At the end of our last game we had, by my reckoning, eleven players out injured (though that total includes long-term absentee Jon Barden). Our defence was almost decimated, with midfielders having to fill the gaps.
I expect at least a couple of the defenders to be back on Saturday, but most neutrals, seeing that this fixture sees the side at the top of the table hosting the one at the bottom, would have it down as a home banker. But maybe the situation is not as straightforward as it seems.
Stockport have issues of their own at the moment, with no win in their last six league and cup matches, and at least seven players out injured, including three of their six leading league goalscorers. They did of course play last night (Wednesday), going out of the FA Cup 1-0 at home to Aldershot. That looked to be a draining encounter, and one of the players who struggled to make an impact (other than on Coby Rowe's head!) was their top goalscorer Tanto Olaofe.
So this weekend could be the best time to play them.

They have players out injured and on their fans' forum they're still talking about starting with Tanto on the bench.
Amusing.

Agreed AA, and for once the odds look attractive. 7/1 the away win and 4/1 the draw, which are surely based on league position and not recent form.

One of the few League 2 grounds i haven't visited so looking forward to crossing it off the list. Bearing in mind what has been previously said we can get something out of this game. The team is starting to blend together and hopefully we have a few defenders back although not expecting to see Ben until later in the month.

This is far from being a home banker.
They've got a injury list as much as ours. They're also on a bad run of form whilst ours are improving. And they of course played on Weds whilst we didn't.
We should go up there with every chance of getting something.

We should go up there with every chance of getting something. County fan here in peace. This is pretty much right, IMO. A month ago we’d have been expecting a comfortable win, but our injury crisis has had a double effect - some key players out long term, first Louis Barry, who was playing at least two levels above, he was basically untouchable and scored 9 in 11 before his hamstring exploded at the end of October. Then Will Collar and Antoni Sarcevic, who offered so much intensity, craft and power in midfield. Most L1 teams would miss those 3 being out at the same time. They should all be back sometime in Feb, fingers crossed.. The second issue is we have nothing off the bench and those who are still fit (and 70% fit but having to play) are being run into the ground. That’s really where the suggestion (which I’m not expecting to happen) of Tanto having a rest comes from, as opposed to unhappiness with his performances, though it’s fair to say he’s not looked the same since Barry went down. All in all, I wouldn’t be coming to EP expecting a win, but there probably won’t be a better time to play us this season. I hope not anyway!

I've listened to Dave Challinor's interviews after Wednesday's match and ahead of tomorrow's, and it's obvious that he was angry about the performance against Aldershot. He'll have made his dissatisfaction clear to his players and will be looking for a reaction against us. So we can expect Stockport to pressurise us from the start. It's therefore particularly important that we don't concede the early goal that would give them momentum. If we keep things tight for over an hour, we might well see tiredness and frustration creeping into their play. That's quite a big ask, but it shouldn't be beyond this group of Sutton players.

We seem to play ok against the good teams and struggle against the so called weaker sides. I am going to go for another 1-1.

Didn’t think Stockport were that bad against a good Aldershot side. They’ll start strong favourites for me. Good to see a few players back in the side and squad. Hopefully we can put in a good performance, a result here would bode well.
