A very sad day for all concerned but unquestionably the right decision. Whilst my own faith in the manager had dwindled I think the Board have got this right - the correct decision made with time enough for the new manager to see if a difference can be made. If we’re still relegated we can at least say the Board tried to pull the levers.
One thing I do hope is that we find a new manager and not simply get a couple of draws over Christmas and decide to stay with Jason until the end of the year. We need a fundamental change and someone who can mould the team in their image and hopefully work some connections in the window

Tommy Widdrington at Aldershot Town seems to be doing a cracking job there. I saw them about three weeks ago v Halifax Town and although it was 0-0 until Shots scored a 97th minute winner it was a reasonable game. Aldershot also have some interesting young players.

Why is it that no one can spell Danny Cowley? And I think there are better options than him. But again, not yet the time or place. Danny was manager at my team Huddersfield Town a few years ago, along with his brother Nicky. They “succeeded” insofar as they escaped relegation which was the immediate short term objective. However, they weren’t very popular with the fans who did not take to either their touchline antics or their Essex estuary accents! In my opinion they are not suited to Sutton United’s ethos. They could very well succeed in the short term but I suspect it wouldn’t be a long term association. Surely it is short term that is required. Staying in the league this season is the only remit for the new man just like, as you say, it was at Huddersfield. Having said which I wouldn't put it past the brothers to take Sutton United to the League Two play-offs next season if they joined the club.

Danny Crowley would be a good appointment-if he was interested Why is it that no one can spell Danny Cowley? And I think there are better options than him. But again, not yet the time or place. Some of us can. Aleister Crowley did black magic. Danny Cowley just does magic.

Thanks Matt. A top man, time for everyone at the club and took an interest in all that was going on. I can't imagine any EFL experienced manager having the same approachabity. Good luck for the future.

Blimey. Plymouth manager and his staff have moved to Stoke. Could be a FA Cup match with no permanent manager

Just dropped into the forum to read any news about our forthcoming match to see the news about Matt . My personal take is that he is a bloody nice bloke and I feel very sorry that it has come to this . I wish him and his family all the very best for the future and would like to thank him for all the wonderful times and memories that he has given us .
I’m also glad that the board have made what for me is the right decision , it gives us a chance to stay in the EFL in my opinion and signifies their intention to do all that they can to make this happen . It may not work of course but if we do go down we cannot say that they did not try . My one regret is that this did not happen a few weeks ago to be honest , shortly afterwards I was hung drawn and quartered for suggesting such a heretic view !
Now it’s the players turn to step up to the plate and perform . They cannot hide any longer behind the curtain of poor management tactics . I know that Matt’s sacking will not lesson our injury list but we must see a real desire to do well on Saturday . As a life long supporter all that I ask for is that the players wearing the shirt give their all , well now is the time for them to do exactly that . Win , lose or draw on Saturday ….. just try your best and we will get right behind you as always .

Its sad to see Matt go like this after the success he has brought the club, but after an 8-0 nil defeat and being bottom of the league with pretty poor form all year, it can't be a surprise the board have decided to part ways. I am not sure when the club last actually sacked a manager, I think Hazel went in 2007 under a mutual agreement?
As the manager Matt walks the plank, but he has been unlucky with injuries losing almost the entire midfield for most of the season and being left with no centre backs on Saturday. Not being able to keep players like Tanto at the club didn't help. The training regime has been mentioned as to something that could have something to do with so many players being out for similar injuries.
Now its down to the board to decide where we go next, a top manager who will command a good salary and probably some money to spend in the transfer window (money I don't think the club has), Danny Cowley was at the U21 Palace last night, probably just a coincidence?

Men and women’s teams both now without managers. I think there’s an Oscar Wilde quote which kind of covers that!

I'm still in shock here.. Never thought the club would fire Matt... Maybe he would quit, but not be sacked.. Well, lets see who we get then..

Mark Bonnar please. All wrapped up and ready to open at Christmas I don't think an actor famous for his roles in Line of Duty, Shetland and Casualty would do a great job. Mind you, you never know.

Well: Line of Duty: get our back 4 to do its job and stop conceding Shetland: move north up the table Casualty: clear our injuries Sorted!

Mark Bonnar please. All wrapped up and ready to open at Christmas Would that be the Mark Bonner who was sacked by Cambridge in November (3 months after signing a new “long term” contract) with his team in imminent danger of relegation? Clearly a better option than Matt who has been sacked with his team in imminent danger of relegation. 🙄
