First half looked like both teams were feeling the effects of 4 games in 10 days. It was poor and not much to divide the teams. Second Half I think we were the better side but did not make the most if our chances, like they did. I thought we could have had those three points if a bit more confidence in front of goal.
6 points over Christmas would have been very good, we have 4 which is ok and still keeps us close to the pack.
I think under Jason we look a little more composed and playing with not as much angsiety. Not sure if this will be enough to put him in charge? he has not had much time on the training pitch though.
My feeling is he will be announced this week, as other names do not seem to have been touted and I am sure they must be close to a decision soon.
As for Forest Green nabbing Smith, from his own words, do not believe those rumours. Though from what I hear, other clubs are interested, so we shall see..

Scrappy first half but Newport are organised, fit and press hard. Not easy to play against. Almost what we aim to be really.
2nd half much brighter. We should really have won, just lack that final bit of calmness in the final third to convert.
Coley, best game I’ve seen from him. Put one on a plate for Pereira and some good runs. Beautyman was inspired when he came on and made a difference. Tope offers a lot more than Angol imo, wouldn’t be surprised to see January changes up top.
Felt for Goodliffe who was dominant at the back but got a bit greedy trying to get in front and next second it’s in the back of the net. He’ll learn from it I’m sure and was otherwise decent. Nice to get the 2 centre halves through the game.
Definitely need a left back or someone who can play there in the window. Hart just can’t keep fit and Rob can’t play the amount we need at the level we need (he mainly did a grand job today and congrats on 200 appearances).

The 1st half was pretty non descript, the second was much better, and TBH created more than enough really good opportunities to win the match. On a positive note Footballwebpages now predicts that U's will avoid the drop, but that doesn't take into account changes that are going to be made at the likes of Salford and FGR.
There is an opportunity for us to build some momentum, but next move is really down to the board when it comes to appointing a new manager and bringing players. If they dwell now that door of maybe slammed shut.

When we’re in cup action on Saturday, Salford are at home to Forest Green. I suppose a draw will be best result for us?
They have of course both beaten us at home.

I don't mean to single anyone out for blame, but I don't get the situation with Patrick. Are the team not connecting with him, or is he not connecting with the team? It seemed an almost anonymous 45 mins from him. Has he written off his time with us?
He has a skill set, we've seen it. Why can we or he not bring it to bear?

As others have said, a draw was a fair result, but we need to be winning games like this if we're to climb out of trouble. I can't help thinking that the Sutton side of the last two seasons would have found a way to take three points. Instead we only just snatched one.
This was a contest between two mediocre teams, each having spells of ascendancy without any end product. It did look as if we were at last gaining the upper hand when we got caught short of players on the right side of our area and Newport took advantage and the lead. After that it was desperation stakes, some very late pressure delivering one of our very few corners from which Tope bundled in the equaliser. It was a draw that felt like a victory, but in the cold light of day it wasn't really enough. At least, among the other struggling sides, only Doncaster managed to win.
Jason again rotated the starting XI; some things worked, others didn't. Josh Coley had a much better game than against Mansfield, and Dion Pereira looked lively, but Omari Patrick was wasted up front and Dominic Gape had a less effective game than against Wimbledon. Tope isn't the most accomplished forward, but he did bring fresh energy to the attack.
I'm not convinced that, over his four games in charge, Jason has done enough to earn the manager's job permanently. This was the match that he needed his team to win.

I'm a little disappointed to be honest. We had plenty of opportunity to win that, especially in the 2nd half, but it's still a point, and brought us a point closer to safety.
One other player who I thought had a very good game and has had a bad rap from some on here was N'Guessan.

I agree, considering NG has been fast tracked this season he has held his own for most if the part. Ideally he would have had been edged in more slowly like A Smith was.

We should have won yesterday. I thought Dion had an excellent game and to be fair most did. Loads of effort and tenacity. We just need to move the ball a little quicker. When we do we create a lot more space for ourselves. We do need to start winning more home games. The games against Colchester, Doncaster, Swindon and Grimsby at home look like they will be must wins and we will have to avoid defeat at FGR and Salford and win 2 or 3 more away games. Pick up a few other points and we could get to 46 which may well be enough
