On the road again this weekend and a trip to Birmingham as we follow up Tuesdays excellent point at Mansfield.
Prior visits to Walsall have included a 0-1 loss and last season a 1-1 draw where we conceded late into injury time. I’m hoping for our first win there tomorrow.
The signs have been good in Morisons first two games in charge against high quality opposition and a freshness in the squad with several new arrivals - I’m looking forward to seeing them in action having missed Tuesday. Yesterday we added Stephen Duke-McKenna to the squad - thought to be a wide midfield player - lot of positive comments on social media yesterday following that announcement.
Hopefully Goodliffe and Sowunmi pull through and feature tomorrow - both went off on Tuesday night - those that went did it look precautionary or more worrying?

The difficulty with draws are that they fail to make inroads into the deficit we need to make up to attain safety, nor do they improve our goal difference. I really hope we can pick up 3 points let's go there with no fear.

Second away game this season for me. Taking my wife and staying over in Birmingham city centre. Will take another draw tbh but on form I think we're capable of a win.

I rather think that the very late equaliser we conceded at Walsall on April Fools Day last season was the start of our troubles. We may have got some of the angst out of our system with the 4-0 victory at GGL in October, our only ever win against these opponents.
None of that will be of much interest to Steve Morison, who'll be looking to build on the two draws he's overseen so far, both against sides higher up the table than Walsall. But the Saddlers are pretty strong at home, defeating both Crewe and Wrexham last month, and following up with an eye-catching 6-1 victory at Grimsby. Their most recent result though was a 3-1 defeat at Stockport.
This promises to be an interesting tussle.

They'll be keen for revenge, too. On the subject of draws, Hartlepool discovered last season how unhelpful draws could be. Despite finding some form in the back end of the season including an 8 match unbeaten run with 6 draws, they drew 10 times from Jan 1st. Just two of those draws being turned into wins would have seen them overhaul Crawley by a point and stay up.

For those travelling by car there is a free station car park almost opposite the ground and plenty of parking in side streets a short walk away. As an alternative to their £7 car park!

Another good point that with two winnable games at home coming up. Sam Hart man off the match for me. Might be a little disappointed that we did not win but as I said a good point and now three games unbeaten for Steve. ⚽️⚽️⚽️

We’re putting in solid performances now. Everybody get out if you are able to for the 2 home games this week. We’ve had people saying must win for months for every match but there is no doubt we need wins and we’re capable of them this week. A 6 point collection from 2 home games would change everything very quickly. We all need to show up and get behind them this week, the new signings should feel some love and positivity!

Playing better, new players doing very well, got to keep it up and who knows.
Hart was fantastic and Duke is good, Harry and Eastmond on it. All done well.

It appears we are now no longer so fragile at the back and carrying much more of a threat going forward. The new signings all played well and contributed to the overall (Stephen Duke McKenna will Im sure worry alot of defences in the coming weeks) and Louis and Joe combned well in the heart of the defence. Lee Angol seems to be benefitting from this run of games and was a threat all afternoon, particularly in his hold up play. Harry buzzed around the pitch and did a lot of good work in the centre and Charlie Lakin looks a great asset. Josh made some telling runs but the Walsall players did a good job of not allowing him to cut inside as he likes to. I would though totally agree that todays MOM was Sam Hart. Contributed loads going forward and was solid as a rock at FB. The only down for me was that we did not really test their keeper. Was our goal our only shot on target?

Seen the league table and we are still only six points off safety. The team that seems to be falling is Doncaster who have lost their last three and played one more game, so the next two games are massive. We really could do with six points and really shake it up, so a big week ahead.⚽️⚽️⚽️

League position was never going to change quick. Main thing is we are looking a stronger side, more durable, more attacking and keeping possession better. At least we are now looking more capable. Unbeaten under Steve, after 2 away games and 1 home game which included two promotion chasers and an in form mid table side. Could have been a worse start.

Respectable result, from a tight game that we might just have edged, though we do of course need to start winning soon. Three points from a tricky-looking trio of fixtures is a decent platform, but no more than that.
The key improvement was in midfield, where we were picking up plenty of loose balls, something that wasn't happening enough earlier in the season, and which today put pressure on their defence rather than ours. Duke-McKenna was a bundle of energy on our left, and Craig Eastmond signalled his return with a trademark goal. A disappointment was the high percentage of balls from corners and free kicks claimed by the home keeper.
There was some notable squad rotation this afternoon, and I expect to see more shuffling of the pack when we play Harrogate on Tuesday.
