It's potentially easier than that. I recall that it was mentioned a short while back that 50 points probably isn’t necessary in a division with only two clubs being relegated. I believe 44 was mooted, which would mean a requirement of only 1.28 points per game. Very do-able. I agree. 50 points when 4 are relegated so i would work on the assumption of around 44-46. Have to disagree teams have been relegated on 50 and 51 points when only two go down - Hereford and Barnet within the last. 12 years 2010/11 and 2012/13 so it could happen again- need 52 points as a target ie 1.72 points - that's 79 points and play off standard over a full season. Are we that standard now- debatable- and hard psychologically as the pressure mounts up. As someone has said it was draws that ultimately cost Hartlepool last season and they rarely lost towards the end of the season - they just couldn't buy a win.

The two clubs relegated this year will almost certainly come from the current bottom six: FGR (19 points), us (21), Doncaster (28), Colchester (28), Grimsby (28) and Salford (31). There's a five point gap between Salford and the next club up, Bradford. Of the six, Colchester and Salford have each played a game more, and we'll join them after tomorrow night's match v Harrogate.
We can be sure that the other clubs down there will be fighting for their EFL lives - and some will have appreciably bigger budgets than ours. Colchester and Salford both had surprise away wins on Saturday, which diminishes the draw we achieved. We've got a larger points deficit than all but FGR to make up. Nobody should under-estimate how tough a battle this will be. But we are due to play all the other strugglers between now and Easter - starting next Saturday. Those will be crucial games.

I don't remember a season when five of the bottom six teams in this division have not only changed their manager/head coach but have appointed much better replacements. Obviously Donny have not pressed the ejector button yet but if you win tomorrow and then beat Doncaster McCann will surely be gone a week from now. FGR - It's probably too late for them but Cotterrill is as good as they could have chosen right now. Sutton - Morison is an exciting choice and I believe he could just keep you up. Doncaster - What are they doing in 22nd place? They were expected to challenge for a play-off spot at least. Grant McCann has had a terrible season in charge up till now. Lose the next two and a new man will probably steer them away from danger. Colchester - Once the Cowleys were appointed then forget about relegation. The brothers make an outstanding management team at League Two level. Grimsby - looking from outside The Mariners are the ones I'd fear for most. I like David Artell and was pleased for him when he got the job after over eighteen months out of the game. But his tenure at Crewe showed he needs time to build a successful side and time is exactly what he doesn't have. Salford - I'm not Robinson's biggest fan (obviously, Karl is) but right now he's probably just the man to pull them clear. Anyway, it's going to be a thrilling next three months. Oh and I'm expecting a Sutton win tomorrow night.

Some good posts on here! I think it will be two of FGR and Doncaster/Grimsby. I was surprised to read we’ve only lost 3 of our last 13 league games - obviously skewed by a large number of draws. Having been to 2 of Morisons 3 games in charge (missing the Mansfield game) I’ve seen more than enough to suggest that wins are on the way and we will get the points on the board that we need.
Several decent comments on the Walsall forum about us on Saturday:
‘Sutton are better technically’
‘Their number 50 has been excellent so far, cut through us at ease’
‘Outplayed at home by sutton ffs’
‘Two very evenly matched sides with them slightly edging it’
‘Sutton will stay up though, they’ve got some decent players’

Sam Hart made the EFL2 team of the week - well deserved on Saturday’s performance

A polite request which you are all free to ignore if you wish: please can you be aware that a long post referring to a series of players by their initials alone can really reduce the accessibility of that post to some readers. Most of us are pretty familiar with the squad but even I - someone who goes to every game - had to interrupt my reading flow several times to work out who was being referred to. And I still can't figure out who you mean by "J H," is4! Now I'm done, you can ignore me

Have to agree, I always have to keep the squad sheet close by, so I can refer to players mentioned by their initials.

I might rather have enjoyed that, result apart, as an entertaining encounter if had been a meaningless end-of-season mid-table game. Well, chance would be a fine thing! No doubting the energy and commitment of the team who played some good stuff at times with plenty of possession and pressure. The bottom line though is that we weren't good enough with issues that have plagued us all season again evident: chronic inability to keep clean sheets; insufficient guile to prise open packed defences; and strikers (Smith apart) who don't score. One of more of those, preferably all three, need to change, starting on Saturday. Credit to Harrogate though for their resolute defending. Why is this on the Walsall thread?
