Sorry, that's it for me. I really can't see us staying up now. The failings have become wearily familiar: we can't convert pressure into more than the odd goal and we can't keep a clean sheet.
Yes, we should have had at least one penalty. I'm not much of a conspiracy theorist, but can't help wondering whether Wrexham arranged for a brown envelope stuffed with used notes to be left in the referee's changing-room. Whatever, had we made more of our corners, plus free kicks and throw-ins in their half, we would have got more from the game. There were too many balls straight into their keeper's arms.
With Forest Green surprisingly winning at Barrow, we're back at the bottom of the pile. Steve Morison has now been in charge for seven games and has yet to oversee a win. His record of four points from those games is worse than Matt Gray's record in his final seven league games, which yielded seven points. If Steve manages to dig us out of this hole, I'll take my hat off to him.

Something struck me whilst watching this game. It seemed that the players who were underperforming tonight seemed to be players who have been here for a while. Goodliffe was shocking in the first 10 mins, although got better, Eastmond kept fluffing his lines, Harry B seemed a bit all over the shop and Kizzi did what he has done a number of times this season - mistake after mistake and giving the ball away. I don't quite understand how he is getting the nod over Louis week in week out.
We should have won tonight against a side who were a shadow of themselves compared to when we played them in October. And that's without the penalty we should have got for a handball. Like we should have beaten Doncaster. And we shouldn't have lost to either Morecambe or Harrogate.
Morison has been in charge 7 games. We've got 4 points our of them and have lost 3 our of the last 4. With the squad we have and the new additions (most of whom are actually very good) that's underperforming by any measure.
As for "he doesn't know his best XI", sorry but that's bollocks. He picks the players for the system he think is right to play, which changes depending on the game. He also understands when we have 3 games in 8 days and adjusts accordingly.
But the two problems remain. Us unable to take our chances ( we had 11 shots tonight and 10 corners and we could only score from a set piece) and the issue that I think is doing us the most damage and will be the main factor if we get relegated; namely our defence being poor. And I'm sorry, but that goes for the entirety of our defence.

So, assuming we go down, has it been worth it, taking all things in to consideration? You bet it has, just look at the club now better facilities and more to come, better crowds, much more media interest could go on. If we go down let’s hope it’s only a blip and we come back stronger and with the hunger for more success. ⚽️⚽️⚽️

Steve changes the side each game as he wants each starting 11 to run their socks off, so rotates to avoid fatigue and injuries. It was nice to see Smith getting back to fitness.
I dont see things as having to win this or that much games to survive, we need to win about three more games than a few around us then do better than them from then on. What that is we do not know. I think this side has been doing the same thing and getting the same results for too long now, and I can't see it changing. Its a funny game so who knows, but I have accepted relegation now and am just curious as to what players stay or go, and if the board hired Steve with a long term plan in mind or if he will go at the end of the season if we are down.
I like what Steve has brought but essentially the team is not a good enough defensive unit, as it has not been for a long time now, and this is what will cost us.
Reff robbed us of another penalty. But we should expect it to happen every game now as it usually does. Pathetic decision not to give it.

At this leVel its about quality not quantity or effort, we have plenty of the latter 2 but precious little of the 1st.
The quality needs to be on and off the pitch and the decisions have to be right on both for a any club, let alone a small one like ours to survive in a league of big boys.

Sums up our season rather nicely. No one to put the ball in the net. Too many long throws to nobody. Soft underbelly at the back. A lot of the time we looked the better side and did most the pressing but alas we find a way to lose. Tbh the best I hoped for was a draw as I just can’t see us holding on to a 1 goal lead and couldn’t see us getting further ahead than that.
I think it’s now down to Steve to spend the remainder of the season working out what’s required for next season and who will be with us, we can’t afford to start badly (on the assumption he is with us, no idea what the agreement is).
All that remains is a slow painful death.
At least we can say we saw us play in the EFL and we’ve had 3 seasons.

Yes we can score more goals than Wrexham tonight as long as our defence puts in a well disciplined performance .I have a good feeling about this one 😬 . So much for my forecast , no wonder I’m not a tv football pundit 😢😢😢 .

After last nights disappointment feel this morning Only a miracle of biblical proportions can save us from relegation now. Still onto Bradford on Saturday, for various reasons be my first visit, maybe Mr Morrison's first win? Will he make changes to the line up? Will we keep a clean sheet? Will we score more than one goal? Will the beer be cheaper than £4.80 a pint? ( Blimey when I started enjoying a pint it was 14p a pint how times change) Will the coach have usb chargers? Will it have a toilet ? Will the motorways be clear of delays both ways? Will the weather stay mild? It is the hope that every answer will be yes that keeps me going .

Why start such a conversation?! Still 42 points to play for. Until mathematically impossible, surly we have keep believing that things will improve and we can get out of this mess we are in?

Just saw the highlights. You won't see a more obvious handball this season.
Disgraceful decision by the ref.

After reading all the posts last night and this morning. I realised that I was out of order in my posts. And I opoligise to all for my comments. Therefore I deleted the posts. On some of my previous posts I asked questions that I thought were relevant but have been seen to be taken out of context. Again opoligises to all.

In answer to Brian and anyone else who's interested www.suttonunited.net/news/2024/february/sutton-united-1-stevenage-3/Our last game before the league splits in to the Merit Leagues is against MK Dons at the VBS next Tuesday, kick off 12 noon, admission free. Depending on Saturday's result in the return against Stevenage and their subsequent game against Leyton Orient, a win next Tuesday may earn us third place in the South East division of the EFL Youth Alliance, which would be a terrific effort by a very young team

starting to get detached at the bottom now and seemingly incapable of winning matches - think the writing might be on the wall for this season I'm afraid.
as for last night - it was a big occasion match so to see Craig Eastmond, sat on the bench for the 1st half, I thought was a stupid decision. Hardly a surprise to see us go in at half time 1-0 down.
I suppose the only hope is that the teams around us continue to lose and that Colchester and Grimsby we have yet to play at home. Win those two and there is maybe half a chance but its been a pretty bleak start to 2024.

Until mathematically impossible, surly we have keep believing that things will improve and we can get out of this mess we are in? I think yours is a laudable attitude. But given our position in the table, our form, our season as a whole, the ever dwindling number of games, and the fact that other clubs in difficulty are by and large getting better results than us, it's not a position that we're all going to share. There is a thing known as 'false hope'. That's why that conversation is happening. You don't have to agree with it. But the reasons for it are quite straight-forward.
