Well, that's welcome stuff. Many miles from the game, today, so only followed on flashscores. If, as Gareth says, Alty had the best of the opening, then I can only assume that they faded badly. Or do we look like a team that know how to take its chances? Having seen 4-0 at HT I was impressed that we didn't switch off and conceed one (so easily done)in the second half. But instead pushed on for a fifth. That seems to show a good mentality Hard to say. Looked like confidence flowed after we went ahead and of course we got the 2nd pretty quickly. Their heads probably dropped at that stage. We pressed well high up the pitch forcing errors. A bit like Notts C they played into our hands somewhat! Ta! Er, don't keep mentioning that Notts County match, tho', please! I was there. I remember the smiles, the optimism. Another county, long ago...

Why can spectators lean on the pitch perimeter fence on the grandstand side but not the other three? Asking for a friend!

I forgot Davies in my mentions. Worked really hard, keeps defenders honest and links play well. Looks a good fit for how Steve wants to play.

I thought having our fans behind the Collingwood goal was excellent

I will have to look if Sutton have ever scored 5 goals in their first home match in successive seasons.
Not sure anyone would have seen that end scoreline, as I thought Sutton was second best until Josh's fine opener. Alty had a couple of decent chances but failed to get enough on the shot and they seemed to get through us with ease at times.
That all changed, as it often does, with first goal and 8 minutes later it was 3 0. Jayden H banged in the second and it was he who robbed a visiting defenders to allow Will Davies to take the chance well. The fourth was a penalty no argument and converted by Siju Odelusi.
Match over by ht. U's controlled the second half as the temperature rose and the fifth was arguably the best as Lewis Simper's well judged cross was met by a powerful Ashley Nadesan header.
Can't complain about a 5 0 win against a side who finished 4th in the table last season. Alty did contribute to their own downfall and I had some sympathy for their vociferous travelling fans (especially when they arrived to find no bar in their fan zone and ended up in The Gander). How much dosh did the club lose there?
In that early period, U's didn't always look after the ball well and their was some vulnerability down our flanks. As I have said before, this is a new and young side and there maybe some inconsistency but there is a lot of energy, good pressing and some speedy forward play. It was, for the most part, bloody good.
Five different goal scorers is a good thing too. Jayden was named motm and no argument from me there.
Last week U's struggled on a poor advert for 3G but on our brand new sumptuous surface, there was far more quality control of the ball.
A decent crowd today and having the Collingwood Road end as a home one is an obvious plus. Will take some of us a while to get used to not watching from the mound, well me at least.
There appeared to be a few organisational issues that the club will need to quickly address and York next Saturday may provide a more difficult event with probably more away fans being the first.
Steve M will be well chuffed tonight but the next match is just around the corner.
The programme looks decent for £3 again. Less of me and some new contributors.

Very different game from last Saturday's, and the main reason for that was the much better quality pitch at GGL. Both sides appreciated the surface, Altrincham having the better of the first 20 minutes, with Steve Arnold having a few saves to make. But after his opposite number Ethan Ross saved at his near post from Siji Odelusi, the momentum shifted dramatacally our way. Within 10 minutes we were 3-0 up, helped by some slack defending from the visitors.
A fourth goal, from the penalty spot, effectively wrapped up victory by half-time. Sub Ashley Nadesan's late fifth of the match was icing on the cake.
We're up to 4th in the table. If Steve can keep the midfield firing, we'll be in contention for a top-six finish.

I must say i'd be confident against any team in this league even though we have a new team. Probably foolhardy but we shall see. Sometimes a little optimism isn't a bad thing but i never expected us to hit 5! Can we now go to Wealdstone with the confidence that win gave us.

As I said last week, it's impossible to judge a side on one game. Some people were stating after Tamworth "we're relegation material" or "We're 2 points down on last season". Those people are strangely quiet this weekend. We've seen what we're capable of.
As far as I know (and I'm happy to be corrected) the last time we won a league match by 5 clear goals were in our NLS winning season of 2015/16, when we beat both St Albans and Weston Super Mare 5-0. We won't be able to do this week in week out, but it was wonderful to see. Particular shout out to Harris, who I though probably was our weakest player last week, became our strongest. His interception for the 3rd goal was sublime.
A 5-0 win. 5 different goalscorers. Against a play off side from last season. I think we can all agree it was a very good day at the office. Now a midweek trip to Wealdstone where we'll see at least one familiar face.
