[VNL#2] v Altrincham (h) match-thread

Following our late point at Tamworth on the opening day last weekend we host our first game back in National League this weekend, our opponents are Altrincham who beat Woking last weekend.

I haven’t been keeping abreast of interviews this week but we’re sure to be missing De Silva with injury, hopefully a full compliment otherwise.

Looking forward to getting back down the lane tomorrow and seeing this new state of the art pitch. Here’s to 3 points also!

Not sure we’re in a place where we can be confident against likely one of the stronger NL sides. If we are competitive in this match it’ll bode well. Hope to watch online.

I must say i'd be confident against any team in this league even though we have a new team. Probably foolhardy but we shall see.

Altrincham finished 4th last season, and although their prolific goalscorer Chris Conn-Clarke has been snapped up by (who else?) Peterborough, they've retained the bulk of their squad. This game will give us a better flavour of the current NL than last Saturday's.

I would take a draw with this one. We can only go by our last game, add a boost from being at home for the first time. I feel a bit blind sighted as we still do not really know what to expect from us. I would take a 1-1.

Pretty ruthless half. Looked 2nd best opening 15-20 but took control after the goal. They got in way too easily down our left again at times but can’t argue with 4-0 at h-t. Hopefully we can see it through with authority.

No stress 2nd half. 5-0, 5 in the first home league game of the season 2nd year running - let’s hope for a different outcome to the season this time out! Impressed with some of the new players today. Harris showed quality and hunger to win the ball high. Simper decent on the ball. Boateng had a good game. The 3 that stood out for me but overall an excellent team performance. 46ish points to safety.

Well, that's welcome stuff. Many miles from the game, today, so only followed on flashscores. If, as Gareth says, Alty had the best of the opening, then I can only assume that they faded badly. Or do we look like a team that know how to take its chances?

Having seen 4-0 at HT I was impressed that we didn't switch off and conceed one (so easily done)in the second half. But instead pushed on for a fifth. That seems to show a good mentality

Hard to say. Looked like confidence flowed after we went ahead and of course we got the 2nd pretty quickly. Their heads probably dropped at that stage. We pressed well high up the pitch forcing errors. A bit like Notts C they played into our hands somewhat!
