Phew! Felt like we needed that and we can all hopefully feel a bit better about things. Still a lot of work to do as that game could have ended very differently but hopefully some much needed confidence.

That’s a great result, with the players putting in one hell off a shift and showing the potential off this team. So for all the supporters that criticised, hopefully now you will get behind the lads. Thought Coley had a good game, “and also” Steve got them right up for this, so well done all. ⚽️⚽️⚽️

Maybe it's just going to be an up and down season. I mean, very.

Does this result mean panic over?! Never a panic in the first place Not panicking, we’ve got real promise. Steve has said we’re going to get caught occasionally, ok, but our goalkeeper has got to do less work for us to get consistent results. Any initial views on Okoli for those there or watching? Is it time to look at Sims? Is he more suited to our style? I like Arnold, he’s been great but not exactly decent with his feet/sweeper keeper style modern goalkeeper in keeping with how we look like we want to play? Cost us 2 or 3 recently with kicking. I know he has saved us plenty of times and is a decent keeper, so certainly not anti him at all. Just wonder if Sims might add something and deserves a look.

High expectations built peoples hopes up. We have a young side who will make mistakes but also have talent and can get better. The goal for this season is to survive while nurturing our young team, its a start of a project.
First half we looked low in confidence and nervous, another cracking finished for their first after some more silly mistakes at the back and a poor clearance by Arnold. But we stuck to our guns. Second half we looked sharper played with our heads up and deserved the victory and a good away 3 points.
Fans did well today as well and got behind the lads. Good see Harry Ransom have a decent game even after losing the ball for the first... Okoli also slotted in very well and done a good job.

Well that was bloody painful from a Southend perspective let me tell you. at 1-0 we were cruising and truthfully you weren't really at the races, but then our defence had a collective brain fart and it was 1-1. From then on in it was obvious that that goal was exactly what you needed to get going and from then on we never recovered our high press game but we did discover that we weren't in shooting mode! You deserved your win and the three points, but I have to say, we gifted them to you, and you gratefully accepted. Some of your robust tackling had me wincing, but the clown masquerading as a referee didn't seem to think so, so there you go. Good luck until we meet again at which point I really hope we come to your ground and do a number on you in recompense for today.

Bit of a mad match that. Thought we were ok without showing much up front until we gifted them their goal, great finish though. From there Southend came to life and looked menacing down the slope but failed to make any of their good approach work count.
Then their two central defenders managed to mess up and Josh Coley raced away to level with a well taken goal.
That was the fillip Sutton needed and they enjoyed much more attacking play in the second half. Both goals came from breaks and good crosses from the left side. In between, Southend worryingly opened us up on a fair few occasions but their finishing was woeful. Steve Arnold, on his return to Roots Hall, not severely tested.
Thought we was more direct today and try to pass through the lines and get down the flanks. Little of the passing out from the back was on show. Thought Ransom had a decent game alongside Chin Okoli while Will Davies worked hard in the second half with Ashley Nadesan enjoying a decent second half too, capping it with a composed yet emphatic finish.
Once again though, Josh Coley was prominent and his goal was so important.
Our friend from Southend bemoans the ref but he wasn't great for us either. Coley's booking was a joke and later a similar challenge on Charlie Waller didn't even get a foul. At times he seemed to let the home crowd make the decisions for him at other times failed to give the obvious with both sides suffering. We picked up 5 yellows with Tyler French's meaning he his suspended next week. And having given the foul, why wasn't their fella booked for a late challenge that resulted in Jacko having to go off?
I have never liked this ref and he has followed us up the Pyramid over the last decade. He hasn't improved.
Having said that FIFA ref Anthony Taylor has just booked 14 players in the Bournemouth,Chelsea game, PL record. So perhaps Alan Young ain't so bad!
A great reaction from the team after the previous two defeats but more likely typical of such a young side still adjusting to the rigorous of the NL. The application was far better today and hopefully the confidence levels will rise again as a result. A terrific win.
Ebbsfleet next and they earn their first win today, new manager bounce perhaps?

We always complain about the referee when we lose too , are you sure you are not a Sutton Utd fan in disguise ! 😬. A great away win , three superb points and no fan abuse towards our own players at the end . Happy days indeed .

You were only 1-0 up as we gifted you a goal. Robust tackling ? You obviously watched a different game to me!

You are going to get inconstancy from such a young side, it doesn't surprise me to see wild swings in results. This league really looks mistakes driven with so many goals coming for and against due to clangers or really poor defending. The first half today as stated we were not at the races and in truth could have been 2 or 3 down at the break, the gift (like our gift to them) completely changed the flow of the game, that cross for the 2nd was one of the best crosses I have seen all season, it was a peach.
We are looking like a midtable team, experience is needed what is needed if a playoff spot is a serious aim for the club. The amount of time our defenders were dispossessed in the first half shows lack of experience and wrong decision making.

The view from the North Stand looking down the pitch is far better than being in line with the centre line and 8 rows back. I should have realised I got it wrong before I posted, sorry.

Fair enough,we all see things different ways but i guess the only thing we would agree on was that the ref was absolutely dreadful and wanted to be the centre of attention.

He was up there with some of the worse we had experienced recently, but that is the price of us all being in the National League, which is our own collective faults.

He was up there with some of the worse we had experienced recently, but that is the price of us all being in the National League, which is our own collective faults. Let me tell you that L2 is actually worse! There was a massive foul throw that led to the clash of heads. The lino wasn't even looking. We may now have a player missing for a few games. They can't even get the basics right. Waller was tripped from behind which allowed the Southend forward to go through and square a dangerous ball back. When we did this we were rightly called up for a foul. He was happy to book our players for their first foul (a couple were justified) but seemed to let a few Southend ones go. Having lost 3 games in a row I'm not surprised there's some robust tackles. It's what we need to do. You'd expect the home side to create some chances and they had a few in the first half but not really clear cut. A terrible mistake by Arnold but the lad still has to finish and he took that well. The second half we were mush better and really the Shrimpers didn't challenge Arnold that much but did have one glorious chance. I thought Okoli was immense and will be one hell of a player for us.
