Great result. There are 9,375 reasons to be cheerful - one for every pound of prize money.

I’ll take the money but a victory that feels like a defeat. We were so poor.

Most of our players are out of academies, they won’t have experienced that sort of in your face game before. It was a cup tie, we won, all that matters

That was pretty ugly. Even Steve Morison said as he was going off the pitch at the end of the game "They're tried everything" and he wasn't referring to us.
Win is a win and the scoreline probably reflects the match as a whole. We did make quite a number of mistakes, more upfront than in defence, but as DaveF rightly said, the squad as a whole would have learned a lot from that game. No idea who upset Harris so much at the end of the game that he had to be restrained, but you could kind of see something like that was going to happen.
Crowd of 2,134, which out of the 28 odd games who have so far declared their attendance, was the 5th highest of all the games in the round (Oldham v FC Halifax, not surprisingly had the highest of 3,246.

Chertsey will feel a little hard done by to not come away with at least a replay. Think they out battled us for large chunks of what I saw and consistently were first to 2nd balls. We could have picked them off a bit better, some of the final ball or final decisions were beyond poor - have to get more clinical. It was always going to be a difficult game given the make up of our squad but we’re through and that is all you need come full time. The referee was incredibly poor, let a lot of fouling just go which made getting clean ball very hard.

An odd atmosphere at this game. A lot of people there for the afternoon out, not to especially watch the game. Seemed some stayed in the fan zone bar for the whole of the first half, whole families meeting up with old friends for a natter. More like the village summer fete than a crunch knock out cup tie.

Not a totally convincing performance but certainly not as poor as some are making out.
After conceding an early goal, we soon got ourselves back into the game and went on to win. Our midfield middle two were a bit anonymous, allowing Chertsey to have much of the ball in midfield. I expected them to tire in the second half but they didn't do so credit to them. Ironically, having very recently won in the Trophy on penalties they failed to score from one today. Despite our at times fragile defence, Sims was rarely seriously troubled but did make a fine reflex save near the foot of his left hand post in the second half when the home side were in the ascendancy.
In the end, I thought our class told, and it's not often I say that!
As for the ref, I only noticed him after about thirty minutes, thinking well he must be having a good game. Rather a different story in as the match wore on, with cards being handed out at exponentially increasing rate. How much added time did he play - maybe he was going for a full house? Although I was standing close to the penalty incident, I'll be interested to watch the highlights.

I’ll take the money but a victory that feels like a defeat. We were so poor. The history books are littered with great cup runs that began with a laboured performance. When I was running onto the GGL pitch like a lunatic in January 1989, giving Phil Dawson a hearty slap on the back, the last thing I was thinking about was that three months earlier we had struggled to a 1-1 draw at home to lower-league Walton & Hersham in the 4th qualifying. We're in the velvet bag with a chance to do some more F.A. Cup damage.

Outrageous penalty decision. Sims got to the ball first and clearly punched it away.

Cup damage. To be fair to Sutton that day, Lenny Dennis was suspended and Mike Cornwell suffered what was in effect a career ending broken leg. Seen matches abandoned for such injuries in recent years. As for today, a rather disjointed performance at times. Giving away a free kick within 5 seconds of a kick off we had taken was ridiculous and put us straight on the back foot. They probably should have scored from it and we never really got the ball away and they took an early lead. We responded well and scored two quality goals and came close twice to adding to them. Second half we looked to have scored a third but it was eventually disallowed. From there I thought we struggled and Sims made one outstanding save then there was the penalty miss. Eventually we got a late third from another decent passage of play. Banana skin avoided. Ref was a clown, absolute clown. What I really thought of his performance is not printable on here. Before he disallowed our goal he booked their 5 for dissent about it's initial award. How mad is that? The penalty was a terrible decision. The ball was clearly won by Sims as it went away from goal. He even booked Sims. Joke. Inconsistent throughout, he ended up dishing out cards as if he was a croupier on a Black Jack table. Totally out of his depth. Chertsey should be proud of their efforts, gamesmanship aside. Certainly didn't make it at all easy and on another day may have at the very least forced a replay. Didn't agree with SMs subs today. Rush was lively and didn't deserve to be replaced and didn't look to be tiring either. Still, what do I know I am just a fan? Decent programme by Chertsey. Far better effort than the dross Hartlepool produced for last week and Woking's digital one. I got that printed and it ain't great. So in the hat for a first round tie. It's over 55 years since we went to St Andrews That'll do.

Looking at the teams that qualified today together with virtually all of league 2 they almost all without exception fall into the “oh for goodness sake not them !😡” category so as nice as it would be ,I fear St Andrews may be unlikely 😏 besides, Bromley and Wimbledon’s balls (“ooooh matron”)already have Velcro hooks ready for ball 68’s Velcro loops😏

I’ve just seen one - under News in the website. Quite informative. Yes, good preview. I’m still trying, and failing, to understand the logic of where things are on the new website 😂
