Outrageous penalty decision. Sims got to the ball first and clearly punched it away. I haven’t seen it yet, but I would not be surprised if the ref took the first opportunity to punish us. Meanwhile, could someone please teach our Media Man Ryan Herrick how to write proper match reports. His review of today’s match is awful, and the basic distinction between past and present tenses appears to be lost on him.

the basic distinction between past and present tenses appears to be lost on him. Have to agree it was very difficult to read and make sense of. If these are young developing reporters, I’m amazed that no one is reading and editing what they write and giving constructive feedback before it’s put out. Not sure how they learn or improve otherwise? And it does make the website look very amateurish.

It's a while since I posted anything. But I must agree with the comments re ''match report''.
It was nothing of the sort - more like a stream of consciousness live commentary at times.
I don't wish to sound harsh but a professional club should sort this out straight away.

I sent an email to someone who I won't identify pointing out the very same about the match report. It's not the first one written like this either.
A young person not long out of uni apparently. I recall not being great at such stuff at a similar age, some may say I am still not, but then I left school with 3 o levels not the apparent benefit of higher education.
A simple suggestion to the author would be to go back and look at reports written by more seasoned scribblers and use them as a guide. The constant use of the word would is irritating and it is a hard read even if reasonably detailed.
It is also customary to list the away team line up and ref's name at the bottom. It's almost as if the main achievement here was to get the report out as soon as possible rather than consider it's quality. As someone has asked is there no editor for the website at present?

Just a thought but I wondered if the report wasn't generated from the mixir commentary. Maybe with the help of Chatgpt? It was a very lengthy report to have been written so quickly.

However, reading the report again just now, it's clearly been amended so a much improved effort now.

I was not at the game but it looks like we should have had it wrapped up in the first half and was unlucky with Rush's second being disallowed. I heard it was never a penalty, so justice that it was missed. This being a massive game for them, they were allways going to rally and have their moments if they have a chance. Looks like they put us under pressure as the game went on, credit to them for that.
Over all a deserved victory and we are into the next round with a few quid made for our efforts..

I think you’re giving the ref too much credit. Just incompetence. If a keeper come out and punches the ball clear he got to the ball first, any contact is their player getting there late. Shocking decision. Almost impossible to get wrong given where the ball went.

The history books are littered with great cup runs that began with a laboured performance. When I was running onto the GGL pitch like a lunatic in January 1989, giving Phil Dawson a hearty slap on the back, the last thing I was thinking about was that three months earlier we had struggled to a 1-1 draw at home to lower-league Walton & Hersham in the 4th qualifying. We're in the velvet bag with a chance to do some more F.A. Cup damage. To be fair to Sutton that day, Lenny Dennis was suspended and Mike Cornwell suffered what was in effect a career ending broken leg. Seen matches abandoned for such injuries in recent years. As for today, a rather disjointed performance at times. Giving away a free kick within 5 seconds of a kick off we had taken was ridiculous and put us straight on the back foot. They probably should have scored from it and we never really got the ball away and they took an early lead. We responded well and scored two quality goals and came close twice to adding to them. Second half we looked to have scored a third but it was eventually disallowed. From there I thought we struggled and Sims made one outstanding save then there was the penalty miss. Eventually we got a late third from another decent passage of play. Banana skin avoided. Ref was a clown, absolute clown. What I really thought of his performance is not printable on here. Before he disallowed our goal he booked their 5 for dissent about it's initial award. How mad is that? The penalty was a terrible decision. The ball was clearly won by Sims as it went away from goal. He even booked Sims. Joke. Inconsistent throughout, he ended up dishing out cards as if he was a croupier on a Black Jack table. Totally out of his depth. Chertsey should be proud of their efforts, gamesmanship aside. Certainly didn't make it at all easy and on another day may have at the very least forced a replay. Didn't agree with SMs subs today. Rush was lively and didn't deserve to be replaced and didn't look to be tiring either. Still, what do I know I am just a fan? Decent programme by Chertsey. Far better effort than the dross Hartlepool produced for last week and Woking's digital one. I got that printed and it ain't great.
So in the hat for a first round tie. It's over 55 years since we went to St Andrews That'll do. Agree that it was a good programme for step 3. Only point for mild amusement was a league table showing us 9th in the "Valderama" National league?! Is this because we now have a pitch that looks like a Spanish championship golf course or because an erstwhile "Mop haired Colombian International" has nothing better to do with his money?

One small thing to add is that I think Chertsey did themselves proud ion and off the pitch. Up until the missed penalty I thought they were probably deserving of a draw having had the best of the second half. Moreover I think they were excellent hosts and I particularly enjoyed the lack of segregation.
The banter in the fan zone pre game was, as far as I could see, lighthearted and I did not see any problems whatsoever either there or in the ground. Nice to be able to chat to opposition fans and walk around the ground - reminded me of GGL years back. Maybe reinforces the belief that at our level there is no need for segregation at all and it causes more problems than it solves.

I don't wish to sound harsh but a professional club should sort this out straight away. The club had more professional media when it was amateur for free, and now it costs tens of thousands a year its not as good as it was before? But then I am deluded and mad anyway
