If it is true, is this a bit of an Iain Dowie. Thank our lucky stars that Bruce Elliott is nothing like Simon Jordan. Now that would be worrying!

I hope its not true after his reason's giving for leaving, and also he will know all our players contract situations and I really hope we don't go down a poaching route here?

It could be that the reasons were genuine, Steve King heard of his departure and then made him an offer too good to refuse? I don't know one way or the other but people shouldn't be too quick to judge.
Let's also not forget that one thing Hazel and Hayden Bird brought was contacts with players, especially Tooting....

Maybe so Millsy, but he did say he couldn't offer U's the time it deserved because of business commitments etc & now it would appear he's got to travel down the A23 to work with King. I suppose hit helps that SK lives in Banstead.
If he's abandoning all that because his financial situation is improved by a move to Lewes, fair enough, but you can't really wonder if a few eyebows are raised.

Football is a funny old game.
Good luck Paul.
Also I thought part of his interview or his post said that IF he wasn't involved with another club he would be back at Sutton to watch.
"If I am not associated with any club, I will go and watch them on a Saturday." Taken from the Guardian.
So maybe we exppected more from him at Sutton than they will at Lewes or maybe he got an offer he couldn't utrn down, who knows.

I know he doesn't have to but an explanation would be nice. I take it that as per usual he wasn't under any kind of contract to the club, and was free to leave as he wished. Money again I suppose, why else go to a smaller club!!

I thought this was VERY odd when I heard it, because Paul's main reason for leaving us was that he didn't feel he could put in the time any more- living in Sutton as he does, it makes no sense whatsoever to move to Lewes FC in his current situation. Unless as Millsy says he's being offered loadsamoney that he doesn't feel able to turn down. I'm still very sceptical- all I've seen is a rumour on a forum with no factual backup whatsoever- just that one person says so.

I think as it's Lewes, we can probably safely assume that PH will have been made a very nice financial offer.

That's what I'm thinking, but surely no matter how nice the financial offer, it does not tally with Paul's decision to start up a business. If that's what he wants to do, then I couldn't see money tempting him away from the idea. And what about his impending fatherhood? It was time that was an issue, not money.

Still can't find any official confirmation of this on the Lewes website (which was updated yesterday), though their assistant manager has left to join Terry Brown at AFC Wimbledon.

Paul's appointment as Assistant Manager at Lewes is now confirmed on their official website.
I do find this very disappointing - the interview with the Sutton Guardian now looks like a load of garbage:
"With all that is happening, I couldn't justify getting paid by Sutton United because I wouldn't be able to dedicate as much time and effort as I would like to the club."
"I have still got ambitions in football but, at the moment, I can't give it the time and respect it deserves"
It would have been more honest to say "I want more money".
