Actually it was 90 minutes of rubbish. Just as well the ref added on those six or seven minutes. Two late, late, late goals after Margate's number 4, the best player on the pitch by miles, was sent off. (second booking for a challenge he couldn't not commit to really.

Agree game was poor - We were shocking in the first half Palmer for me at Centre back is just a big no hence why he was switched to right back, Hopefully we can get this defender dos keeps going on about especially with collins going off with his calf injury again, There number four was outstanding and won everything in the air all game, I will take three points all day long but we left it very late we need to raise our game, There was a massive difference to how we played against carshalton, hopefully having not having a game for couple of weeks put us back a bit but we need to charge on now

This was arguably our least deserved victory of the season - but do we care?
The players looked rusty having been without a game for two and a half weeks. (Margate had played the weekend before last.) With AJ suspended and Downer departed we were also playing with a makeshift defence.
After 75 minutes it looked as if we might ride out a 0-0 draw. But the introduction of McCallum and Dunn injected some pace into our attack and we started to look more threatening. The award of the free kick in the dying minutes was the turning point, with ex-Bobbin Liam Harwood sent off and Deano heading home. The second on the break from Gav was the icing on the cake.

What to make of that! I like the comment from the Margate forum stating the ref was a 'Nazi' says it all really about his display equally awful for both sides, too many things to list. For 75 mins we were really pants against a struggling side and maybe they were unlucky not to be ahead. The long ball yes but blimmey at least some midfield especially at home can't hurt too much and Chukki did not look fit to me. Billy and Gav who gave his best 15min display for a long while came on and changed the game totally and Margate had their backs well and truly against the wall with their passing from earlier right up the spout. They were rocking when their impressive no4 was sent off quite rightly for a foul on Dundo and the free kick was nodded home by Deano (my personal player of the season so far!) and 4mins added time turned into 10 from nowhere? Margate looked out then and Gav helped himself to the 2nd with their keeper in no mans land. We got 3pts did not play that well and go above the bobbins into 4th and at the end I WAS CLAPPING LIKE A SEAL ON CRACK

Agree with the Aleman - really didn't deserve anything than 0-0, but lets face it how many times have we lost or drawn games we deserved to win? It does even out.
Players certainly looked rusty across the board (with the exception of Nicholls who deserved his MoM), and personally I'd have preferred playing the Horsham cup game as our warm up.
Not much to add really, missed a couple of sitters in the first half, the last 15 was certainly our best period, Gav and Billy both added a bit of pace and urgency which was missing for the previous 75.
5 wins out of 6 now, only the Ramsgate Nightmare spoiling a play off position run at the moment, but for the first time this season not only are we in that said play off position we have taken over the bobbins (which, as said in a previous post, have let a 14 point advantage over us slip through their fingers)

Harwood was man of the match tonight until the 89th minute until his stupidity (or maybe gambling instincts as Dundas was rampaging through?) brought a second yellow card from a referee who will be unnecessarily busy for the next few hours filling in his report forms.
Oh well, we'll take that. We've had our fair share of poor results over recent seasons when we've outplayed opposition so perhaps there's a bit of karma going on! Margate certainly didn't look like a bottom-two team though.

Crap game, but 3 points is 3 points. We looked very sluggish after the enforced break. Fair play to them though, came and worked hard and deserved a point.
They actually reminded me a lot of us from last season at times. How many games did we have like that when we were fighting for our lives and looking like getting some reward for our efforts only to get dicked at the end?
As for Harwood. Excellent game apart from what I thought were two rather needless bookings. Quite why he just didn't stand Dundo up and show him to the line, only he knows. Ironic that we score from the resulting FK and the man he'd probably have been marking does the damage.
Have to say, if there's one thing we can't be accused of, it's not going the whole 90mins!

How many games did we have like that when we were fighting for our lives and looking like getting some reward for our efforts only to get dicked at the end? Very similar to our away game against Eastleigh a couple of seasons back, I think we hit the post and they scored twice in injury time! Why do teams at the bottom always seem to find the woodwork??

I think Margate should take a lot of heart from this game. We could easily have been three down at one stage. Harwood was unbelievable. He won everything. That is a quality loan signing, bit like Downer, who we missed big time tonight. As for a Margate fan calling the ref a 'Nazi' - isn't that a Prince Harry moment? However, I have to agree that the ref was awful for both sides. How it warranted 7-8 bookings is beyond me.

Last nights game was one that last season we would of lost!
But the current team played until the final whistle, and the result showed with the amount of effect the team gave.
We didnt deserve to win last night, but when you go through this seasons fixtures, there are games we didnt deserve to lose! Swings and roundabouts!

We do have a good level of fitness which enabled us to get on top for the last 20 mins or so, especially when McCallum & Dunn came on and started to run at their defence. For the previous 70 we were woeful. Our right side appeared to be a no go area for the exclusive use of Margate, particularly second half. I thought Deano didn't have a particularly good game (except for the goal), but you have to take into account that he was frequently faced with 2 or 3 Margate players bearing down on him. We've got to stop playing so narrow, with Dundo and Hann being sucked into central midfield. What I'd give to see Matt Gray back, putting in the crosses for Chukki and West (and covering the right back)!

3 points not necessarily deserved, but well earned. The side battled hard right to the end, a good thing to see when they are technically underperforming. That take a lot of character and commitment, thing we have not seen from a full squad down the lane for a good few years. A part of me (a small part) felt for the Margate players. They didn't do much wrong, apart from picking up bookings for being a bit physical. Their reactions at the end of the game summed it up. My comments on the ref are not suitable for print !! Still, through a combination of good football and bloody minded determination so far this season, we are now 4th, ahead of the bibbins by two goals . Now we have to keep going to the end of the season. To the play-offs...and beyond!
