You must all be getting very blasé these days. We sign a new player and not one person posts about it.

Good news. I think it's Banbury United, though!

I don't know, but Dos does have a fairly extensive network of contacts and there aren't too many players that escape his attention.

It's hard to keep up with it all.Who was the last man to play 100 games for the club ? I thought i'd follow my local team not a cast of thousands.

Sign of the times I feel - in general it seems like players tend to move a lot more between clubs - think the days of Tony Rains 700+ appearances are over (although I did notice that the Ashford Town Keeper signed for them in 1990!)

Can a player move around to play for as many different teams as he likes during the course of a season in non league football ?

All asleep is a great thread title. When you do grab a few hours sleep, you find,on waking up that Sutton have signed 2 or 3 new players.

As far as I'm aware yup - a few seasons back we had a player called Andrew Martin - He started the season with us, was released in October I think - ended up playing for 7 sides that season. The rules on transfer windows etc don't apply to this level

If you threw a random game at me from 40 years ago i could reel off Sutton's starting lineup in seconds and get 8 or 9 if not more right.I wouldn't bet any money on doing the same for the last home game i attended though. I am out of touch with it i know but the turnover of players is ludicrous.

If Sutton make the play offs for example could they then sign up six new players just to play in 1 or 2 games ?

I tend to share your sentimenets, Billy. This season is unusual of course, in that Paul basically brought in a brand new side to start the season and then made further changes as he tweaked its make up. Hopefully we will be more settled next season but it does seem that players move around a lot more frequently these days.
Having said that, I can remember Sid Cann signing many players who only played a handful of games.

To be fair, remember at the start of last season we had 4 or 5 players that had played over 300 games for the club I think. After what happened last season then the summer was always going to be a case of clearing out the losing mentality (some would say dead wood) that had set in amongst much of the squad.
Keeping the squad fresh this season hasn't exactly done us much harm either - we're 4th in the league for christ's sake!!
I don't think we can make any more transfers after March 25th (ish).

From last season, the only players I thought we could have kept (as opposed to left of their own accord) were Scarborough & Honey. It was inevitable that Dos would have to sign a new team if we were to regain our Conf place. I have been very impressed with the quality of the signings and even more impressed that he has not hesitated to replace players who did not seem up to scratch (e.g. Barclay, Wilde etc). Yes we had players with many years service with the club and who were crowd favourites. As a result we got complacency and relegation. I prefer the Dos approach of always looking to improve the squad, even if it seems hard - particularly as it seems he has put us on course for a shot at promotion. Credit the Board for appointing him, credit the players for winning the games, but I know where the real credit for this year lies, even if we don't go up.
