I hear Enfield FC have folded and gone into liquidation. But they'll apparently be re-starting in the ESL next season.
Very sad.

Very. I hated them for years because they nearly always beat us but for nearly forty years from the early 1960's their record was outstanding at this level.
Another reminder of how lucky U's fans are. When you look at all the sides we used to have such battles with few of them are above us in The Pyramid, not too many at our level & most are below us in the Ryman & BSGB Leagues or lower.
The rest just don't exist anymore.

Half of em formed one club called Dagenham and Redbridge must be at least 4 of our old rivals in there?

I wouldn't go so far as to say this news is "very" sad. It's more a sobering lesson about what can happen if you uproot a club from its home and try to continue under the same identity but at another location. Imagine if our ground was controversially sold for development, the club couldn't find any other place to play in the borough, and Sutton United ended up ground-sharing indefinitely at Walton & Hersham or Staines. Some Enfield fans did stick with the original club, but most transferred their allegiance to the new outfit Enfield Town, formed by fans, and playing in the borough of Enfield. That's where the spirit of the old club went, and surely where the future lies.

For those of us who have been watching NL footy for along time it is sad. Enfield Town maybe the fans club but they have none of the history of the real Enfield. They may have the spirit but that is surely only of benefit to Enfield Town fans.

Ah there goes a team where I watched one of the worst Sutton Games i've seen in 20 years (1994 trophy replay)

Sal, i'm trying to forget that match.
Apart from doing the double over them in 2002-2003, i can't recall many victories over Enfield in my time watching the U's.

Blimey and to think that they played Chelsea not so long ago. What are these clubs doing? They'll be a lot more over the next few years I bet.

Yeah, I remember being there when Hillsborough happened, and hearing all about it on the radio.
Makes you wonder which clubs next for the ax!

Oddly enough I remember where I was when Hillsborough happened. Southbury Road Yep, me too. We drew 1-1. Vernon Pratt scored. I remember it well, 'cos at the time it was a rare 'success' up there for us! Also remember getting back on the coach after & hearing the full story from Hillsborough on ther adio.

I was there that day too! I can remember walking down the old wooden steps that led from the stand into the bar at half-time and the tannoy announcer saying that some people had been kiled at Hillsborough. We then all gathered in the bar below the corner TV and gazed in disbelief at the Leppings Lane End. Nobody spoke in the car on the way home either. Horrible memories.

Enfield dominated the league in the late 70s and 80s, I think they even won the Alliance league (Conf) before there was automatic promotion to the league. But for a bit of miss timing they would have been a league team now.
