Not being someone who follows non-league football other than Sutton United, I haven't got the foggiest who most of the names bandied about are (other than those I recognise from too many years playing FM!). Like any gossip, speculation unsettles and excites in equal measure, it is part and parcel of the modern game and fills newspapers, just don't believe everything you read.
I started going to watch Sutton with a friend and imagine that most new fans are brought along in the same capacity. I hardly think that the average Joe will be tempted to buy a season ticket if he doesn't already have one because he sees a name he probably doesn't know linked to the club. However, once you buy one season ticket, you're buying them for life! ;D

I have to admit, it would be an extreme case if someone bought a season ticket on the strength of a few signings because these players are just not known in this Chelsea heavy catchment area. We don't have the resources to get a player in to increase income. I personally believe its especially prudent for the club not to announce things until they have crossed the 't's and dotted the 'i' so to speak. Added to that its usually our low key signings that prove to be more of a success at the club. AFC have signed Marcus Gayle but it would be very interesting to see if there are many other "big names" we could name in our division. Remember we do have an ex-premiership footballer on our books!
I so want to see who our new signings are, but I expect its going to chop and change during the friendlies. We will see a lot of players who will never end up playing a competitive game for us.

Correct me if I'm wrong honsec, but to put delboy out of his misery. Yes IH has a few players in mind...
As does every other club across the country. Newspapers will state that Thierry Henry may be leaving Arsenal - because it sells papers. Unless they have names - which we can all make our own guesses towards - they don't bother putting things like Sir Alex Fergusmoan is interested in a few players. It's "nothing" news. You need sensationalism or big names. You tend not to get that in the non-league.

I personally would like more info to come out from the club where possible. Mind you with this medium communication has improved dramatically.
Unfortunately written media wise we are in the London area. In other towns/cities I have seen the non league teams get some kind of coverage, in London with so many league teams to cater for non league misses out.
The Hon Sec is usually pretty quick in giving out news when it's official which is something that could not happen before the net.
Unfortunately our weekly locals specially the free sheets seam not to have column inches available for their top local club, again this maybe due to the lack of local interest in football at our level.

Let's be clear about this. At this level, during pre-season a signing is only worth shouting about if the player is on contract, otherwise nothing is guaranteed.
Contrary to suggestions that we have not announced anything, we announced very early that we had re-signed, on contract, several key members of last season's team. Our squad is a prudent mix of contract and non-contract players, so announcing further "signings" is meaningless unless we have put them on contract.

Can I ask hon sec that he has returned if we are likely to see announcements on signings shortly?

I honestly have no more idea than you do.
Pre-season training doesn't even start until next week so even if there are players than Ian might like to get on contract he would probably wait until after he has seen then train a few times and maybe played at least one game.
What I do know is that there is a large number of potential new players that will be looked at in training before being narrowed down to a squad we can work with.

There's nothing like watching the new hopefulls charge about in the summer sun. I also enjoy badgering those in the know as to just who on earth the newbies are each pre-season. I nearly managed to tip 'Scoop' Dolbear over the edge at Casuals once with my incessant questioning. He took it fairly well.
