I'm assuming it makes sense that we all aim for the same train.
Engineering works means it's impossible to do Victoria to Paddington on the tube in the usual manner so i reckon the best way to get to Paddington is from Sutton (or the nearest station to you) to Clapham Junction, then jump on the next train to Waterloo and take the Bakerloo line up to Paddington.
Going out the only direct train is the 08:21 (Arriving 11:40) you can get there earlier via Newport but for the convenience of not having to change and having time to stroll between a few pubs beforehand (although i'm bringing a 4 pint take out of something Dark Star for the train anyway) it seems the best option.
A few pubs and bit of sort-of-but-not-really-giantkilling later...
...the last possibilities for getting home depart Hereford around 8ish but the sensible option seems to be to catch the 18:43 from Hereford to Newport and change onto the London train (Arrives 21:37) there.
This minimises the time spent on trains and gives us a chance to make last orders in Sutton if need be.
Any thoughts or better plans than that?

Was looking at doing Sutton - Balham - Northern Line - Euston - Birmingham New St - Hereford.
Think there was one about 9.30ish. Going to sort details today when I get 10mins.
Wellie, I, Duke & Greek were going to travel together so we can try & get the 'group discount' wotsit.
But if they feel going to Paddington is easier, fine by me!

I'll probably aim for the 8.45 from Paddington via Newport - which allows half an hour for a pint in the Wetherspoons near Newport station. There's also the option of an hour's refreshment break at Abergavenny on the way up to Hereford. I'll come back via Worcester, and have already arranged to meet up with a Worcester City fan (they're home to Welling on Saturday) in one of that city's fine hostelries. I may also stop off at Malvern - where the Nag's Head reportedly has 17 handpumps.

The quickest way to Padders on a Saturday morning is tube from Morden (or train from Sutton to Balham) on the Northern Line and then Bakerloo Line from either Waterloo or Elephant and Castle, depending on whether you get a Bank or Charing X train. If you're on a Bank train don't bother changing at Kennington to get to Waterloo, just stay on 'till E & C - it's just as quick. No planned works on either line for the weekend. I will however, be on the coach with Double Barrel's Banana and Ballooon Army!

Was looking at doing Sutton - Balham - Northern Line - Euston - Birmingham New St - Hereford. Ever changed at Birmingham New St on a Saturday before? I do not recommend it. Near certain delays, overcrowding, lack of seats etc. Although having looked at the fixtures Bolton are the only team travelling in with the Saturday shoppers as Wolves v Arsenal isn't till half five it might not be too bad. You still have half the country changing trains there though. Will go with majority opinion on this though, as long as we get there it's all good

Just discovered that there's Taffy egg chasing on in Cardiff. And they're playing the All Blacks. So that means half of London's bar staff will be heading for Wales and as such that route will be fecking packed. We did that to Newport during the last world cup when France were playing the Aussies. Horrific journey. Euston is looking favourite for me..... Seriously going to go back & look at the Euston route.

I know.
Apologies for assuming this was something the rest of you would give a monkeys about.
Hence the 08:21 from Paddington to Hereford being such a good option, it avoids the two major jams of Rugby crowds and Birmingham shoppers, students, weekend travellers and gets you straight there. It is a bit of an early start but for convenience.
The game starts at 17:15 so in theory if you went back via Newport you'd be out and away before the crowd control had got anybody on a train back to London.

Well, having spoken to 3 sources, the best price I can get from Paddington is the original £43.50 fare (thats going from Sutton. It's £39 from Paddington itself). There are no discounts available until after 5pm other than railcards due to how busy the line is due to be that day 'cos of the Rugby. Thats from GWR directly. Southern quoted me £62 and SWT £50-odd on the way home this evening! If we're ok with that I'll book it......

We'll be on the 10.21 from Paddington - much easier. For anyone ruling out travelling via Victoria because of the tube works - don't!! You can get a 36 or 436 bus from outside Victoria (opposite the theatre) straight to Paddington - takes about 15 minutes and they're very regular - I do the journey every day for work and it's far easier than the tube. Honestly - it's exceptionally easy. Don't thank me now, buy me a beer in Hereford....

Looks like the 10.21 would be favourite for us then if there's others on it!

I am going to get my ticket tomorrow and go from Paddington on the 10:21 arriving Hereford 13:40. I was quoted £23.10 return to Worcester return (I have a yearly season ticket) and then buy a separate ticket for the Worcester-Hereford leg. See y'all soon.
