Take them to the supporters club if they sell them the club will benefit!

Yes, Dave Hermitage. Went on to be Chairman of the club and a director. Sadly passed away far too young. Really nice guy.

Answers to threads above.
Yes, the badge was replaced by SUFC in chocolate. Leeds had similar in blue on their shirts.
Not sure if we wore white during the cup run, but like now, all white was the away change strip back then. Oooh, yes, probably at Barnet.
COSec, the nearest to SU as a Subbuteo Team was actually Sutton! Dario Gradi had a limited number commissioned for the Leeds game and sold them in his sports shop in Ewell. I have one, although minus the original box & a couple of "injured" players. I also bought (well my mum did) the first ever SUFC kit from Dario (well, it was amber!) and my first ever pair of footy boots - a pair of moulded mitres.
Here endeth the history lesson!

I have a colour photo from one of the National Press showing our team celebrating after beating Hillingdon. The shirts were as previously described and were very amber. Also i still have my 10/- ticket from Sutton v Leeds and also a ticket for the scheduled replay on Wed 28th Jan which Leeds paid us great respect by having printed just in case!

I wonder if those with better memories (or in Frakey & Billy's case documentary proof) can give me answers to the following questions. I was privileged to watch the U's when they were one of the best Amateur sides in the country, during the mid/late 60's. I then went abroad and lost touch with the details of games played - I only got the scores. No internet, Twitter etc in those days I would like to know the U's line up for the away Amateur Cup game in Jan 1968 versus Slough at their old ground that ended 1-1. I believe that might have been the last time I watched them in the 60's - I never saw the replay (which we won) although I may have seen the next home league game. After the Leeds game what was the trigger that made Sutton just an ordinary non-league side until the 80's and which season did that occur? From memory during the early 70's to early 80's the U's were just OK. What was the catalyst that made the rest of the 80's so great for Sutton?I know about the roller coaster ride we have been on in the last 20 years and have enjoyed most of it. More ups than downs but very frustrating, as when we thought the corner had been turned we found it was a cul-de-sac. However, although we are finding it difficult to gain momentum at present, I am certain that we only have a few more bends to take and we will be past the winning post. Have faith

The last two questions will have slightly subjective answers but, in broad terms:-
The "amateur" team of 1970 broke up because Wycombe Wanderers were offering better "terms" and attracted key players. Keith Blunt and Derek Gamblin had already gone there and were followed by Ted Powell, Larry Pritchard, Mick Mellows and Trevor Waughman. There isn't a team in the country that would have been able to cope with losing players of that calibre. John Faulkner, of course, also left for Leeds United.
Sid Cann though did a great job of rebuilding the side, attracting players like Chris Kelly, Ken Jelly and Willie Smith and brought back Bobby Taylor (really underrated in my view) and even managed to finish as runners-up. But Taylor emigrated to Australia I believe and the other three moved on after at most a couple of seasons.
Quite why Sid couldn't bring in players of the same sort of quality I'm not sure. I guess money was a factor (everyone "knew" that amateurs were getting paid - hence the move to semi-professionalism in 1974), Enfield and Hendon were also strong around that time. Maybe Sid was from a different era and was just naturally losing touch with players and the way the game was evolving but teams go in cycles and maybe it was just our turn after a decade of success.
The revitalisation perhaps began with Dario's appointment as manager, injecting some professionalism and modern ideas, and we started up the youth team again. Keith Blunt then took over and brought more organisation, Barrie Williams joined as his assistant and that gave us a really strong coaching side. The success in the Anglo-Italian was some sort of catalyst and then Barrie took over when Keith went to Malmo and we attracted palyers of the quality of Bobby Green and Steve Rogers. Once you can do that, other good players follow. I don't think the money was ever magnificent but, as is still apparent today, that squad built a realt togetherness and team spirit. Combined with the quality of player, the rest followed.

Thanks that is a great reply. I had forgotten about the exodus to WW issue I haven't forgotten. I was taking two "A" levels at the time and bing pressured by the school to go to university. Convinced after our performances that season we would win the league, and not wanting to miss it, I made sure I only applied to universities where 3 A levels were required. Back came all the rejection slips. Then half the team went to Wycombe who duly won the championship. Does this story have an unhappy ending and is it a salutary lesson to young people everywhere? Not b****y likely! Desperate to avoid a clerical job at Abbey National or wherever, I applied to a technical college who were doing this strange computer thingy course. I came out of college (1972) into a massive shortage of IT skills and have been outrageously overpaid for 40 years!

Me too. ;D Although mine started in 1970 and finished after several jobs in 2008 with no break in employment. Computers eh? Money for old rope.

Above posted by Wellie.
If anyone has a spare replay ticket they are willing to part with, I would be very grateful. I didn't manage to get one at the time and it is a major gap in my collection.
Cheers KBB
