Looking at the rather blurry pics (too blurry to put on flickr) of Danny Phillips' first half chance, I don't think it was going in when Cobbs put out his foot. Phillips looks to be a yard inside the line of the post about 7 yards out when he hits it and Cobbs appears to be level with the post 3 yards out. Probably going at least a yard wide.
Edit: And not an Angel in sight. Yet.

Ans to Os question: 85/6, 24 unbeaten match run in the league & managed 12 in 97/8. And unsurprisingly IF we stay unbeaten all the way to and including the play off final it'll be 25 games

A good game on the whole, though I was alarmed at the lack of stewards. Beaney, it's something that the Club is looking into, are you putting yourself forward as a volunteer, we need "new blood" There must have been around 15 extra stewards last night. Were they there as part of the training offer previously mentioned? If so, it's great to see it so popular.

Pure coincidence, two separate ventures. We are still able to accept any volunteers who want to take, at no cost, training as a steward leading to a NVQ (e-mail me, it starts on Saturday) but last night was a link-up with Carshalton College, we were training them !! (Titter ye not . 15 students doing a course in "public service". They were a really nice bunch, too.

Bit odd to see the barman from my (Carshalton) local in an SUFC stewards jacket but i was impressed to see so many youngsters keen to turn up and do their bit.

I have just read Dos's reaction to the Harrow game. He seems a little upset about some people's comments about the team's performance over the past 4 months. The last thing we need right now is for Dos to have other things to think about, other than be focussed on our next 8 league games. Let's show him how the majority feel and give him a real Sutton welcome over the next few weeks. He and the team deserve it as it must be nigh on impossible to play fast attacking football on our pitch. Let's do a 2004 and finish second.

Well it's clear to everyone who goes down to home matches the pitch is terrible. Unfortunately for Dos and the team it does make for generally dismal football. Whilst the supporters can accept that and see the effort and results, it is very hard for newcomers/neutrals to get excited about what they see. Getting people back through the gate at the minute is proving very tough whilst we have to view some of the games we have. For those that travel away they can all see that the team is very capable of good football and entertaining.
At the end of the day the team have a good opportunity to be involved in some higher profile games at the end of the year and if we get some luck and get promotion there won't be any complaints. Winning and consistency is the only aim for the remainder of the season. I for one give a lot of credit to the players and management this year for their efforts and even if we can't overcome the final hurdle we can look forward to next year with some optimism.

I have a bit of sympathy with some of what Dos has been saying. I actually mentioned myself earlier that we have got the consistency we all craved earlier in the season but now we are not losing, there is a feeling that we are not winning well enough (this has been hard to argue to much against during a couple of recent games).
The weather at the beginning of year knackered the pitch and resulted in a big run of games lately which must affect performances to some extent apart from the Bognor game which was particularly lacklustre for some reason, the commitment has always seemed to be there.
As Filbert says, lets try and really get behind the team and perhaps be a bit more vocal than at a couple of recent games and give the lads a boost.

As I pointed out in the Bognor thread people were moaning 'cos we'd just gone up to 12 league games unbeaten. The 13th against Harrow resulted in the longest unbeaten league run in 24 years!!
I totally agree with Dos & I'm not surprised if he's come on here & seen some of the comments made and got the hump.
Our pitch is bloody heavy & difficult to play on when there as been rain - it's not easy peforming to your best & the players should be getting credit for keeping this run going.

More heavy rain today, and more predicted before the week end, god knows what the pitch will be like on Saturday. Doubt if the ground staff will get much done. Help!

I also agree with Dos - there have been some poor comments on here about us being rubbish, but the fact remains we are on our best unbeaten run in 24 years. And our aim is to get as high as we can for the play offs. 1-0 victories will do us fine thanks, and yes, i'd accept slow performances on a rubbish pitch by tired players reaching the end of a long hard season.
Lets get behind the boys a bit more eh? We're doing great and a lot of teams have called us the best in the league! Rightly so too!!!

I'm on Dos's side here also, it's generally your old school mob who moan who watch match of the day saturday night and expect to see the same sort of thing 6 steps down the pyramid.
The pitches are heavy and as Dos says the majority of these players have to work full time also. I get in from work shattered some days and couldn't do what these guys are doing week in, week out.
Let's keep up this pressure on our oppos and league rivals and keep this unbeaten run going.

I do remember posting a mild criticism to the effect that the Gargan/Watts combo lacked a bit of pace (pitch notwithstanding) in the Bognor game. But that was purely a reflection on about 30 odd minutes of play in what was a rather lackluster match.
But any fool can see how heavy the pitch is at the moment and I do think that the team has played extremely well for the whole of this year, really giving it their all, and I'm more than happy with the way things are going.
Dos has done wonders for the club and, imo, will continue to do so!
Let's hope the rain keeps off, I'm really looking forward to Saturday.

Maybe the biggest moan should be,why has it taken us 24 years to do a run like this? Lets keep it going even it means drawing 0-0 or taking a 1-0 victory.Lets get out of this Ryman league!
