Just before ducking below the parapet I would like to know what plans there are for our pitch - short of not playing reserve and youth games on it. At the moment the Club has this fantastic future mapped out for the re-development of GGL which I am right behind it. However I have a major concern about the funding of other issues such as said pitch. I know this is a sad analogy but you cannot expect a surgeon to perform miracle operations using his plumber's tools. To my mind the pitch is the most important issue here as we have now assembled a squad that imho is one of the best we have had for years and are expecting them to play on a sh*t surface. I also know that this is an expensive issue and I am also certain that it is being discussed but I worry where the supposed £100,000 will come from. At the start of the season, and into the Autumn, our pitch looks great but any persistent rain with games during deluges just f**ks it up for the rest of the season. Is covering just the bad parts out of the question financially? I know this would also require a labour force and a weather forecaster but it could be achievable. We need to allow some rain to fall on it as our pitch plays brilliantly after a rain shower and before it has been wrecked by the bad weather. I know Bruce E is an eavesdropper on here (sorry Bruce ;D) and hope he doesn't think I am rocking the boat. I have said on here many times the infrastructure at our club is as good as a Professional club and I also know times are hard. I also buy a lottery ticket each week but I am afraid that my £10 winnings would not go too far. Maybe we should have a SOP fund? Bucket collections whilst the SUFC Board walk from GGL to all Ryman League grounds in 24 hours.

The development plans being drawn up include moving the pitch closer to the main stand. Those plans include for providing a new pitch at that time, and it would obviously not be sensible to do too much to the current pitch in advance of that.
As you say, Sportsturf do a good job in the summer but problems really arise when bad weather sees the pitch start to cut up so, yes, we are looking at options for being able to provide covering for some or all of the playing surface.

I think any criticism shows just how far the team has come. We (the fans) now expect us to win every game, and to do so comfortably iat home against teams lower down the league, when perhaps before we just hoped we would. I appreciate what Dos is saying, but maybe he should look at it as a compliment.

The expectations of some fans at this club have often been too high. I often wonder if our 5 year stint as a Con club in the late '80's has actually become a bain for SUFC. Since then, some people believe we should still be in it! 20 years on from then football has changed dramatically at this level.
Therefore, those who do choose to criticise while we are on this run are hardly a new phenomena at this club and that's why I reckon Dos would not see such comments as a compliment. Some people are just never satisfied.

Football has changed dramatically since the late 80's but clubs have to change with it.Dagenham and Redbridge are a fine example of what can be achieved through hard work and commitment and Forest Green and Histon show that smaller less well supported clubs can survive. Anyway thats all for the future and lets get out of the Ryman first.

I would suggest that at the moment, neither FGR or Histon should be looked up to as examples.
FGR have a big tax bill and are under serious threat. Histon was driven by a money man and the bubble is due to burst soon.
