Got away with that a bit there at the end! Pretty even stuff 1st half. We're getting fair bit around the box, their main threat set pieces. Then we lose Dundo and a minute later a lovely bit of football and Davo puts us 1 up.
Fola pings one in few mins later and Jolly is there to head down under the 'keeper. Ball dribbled over the line with Jolls following it into the back of the net to be sure! Second half, horrible mix up between defender and their keeper. Nodded it straight past him & Brad nips in and calmly slots in no3.
At that point, it looked like a case of how many we'd get. However we instead decided to go 4-5-1 and shut up shop. D'oh! Because of this, the Hastings iffy backline (their full backs were terrible!) only had Wattsy to contend with & shut them down. So they had far more time to pick their men in midfield or hit it long to the useful Olurunda up front.
First goal came from a set piece, free kick and a free header. Disappointing. Second came from what looked a bit of a speculative effort from an angle that seemed to squeeze between Scrivs and his near post.
After that and with 2 points looking like disappearing, we brought on Andre Costa, went back to 2 up top and almost immediately got a better hold on things & Andre was a little unlucky not to make it 4-2 on the break thanks to a decent save from the keeper.
Then with injury time well up, silly FK given away & not defended that well led to a big throw in nodded on near post and the ball bundled in for what seemed 3-3. Their bench all on the pitch, fans going mad......
Thankfully for us though, the lino had his flag up straight away.
Lots of good points last night, but a few bad ones as well. The move to 4-5-1 was a bit silly. Were we shutting up shop or going for the clean sheet record? Either way, it played right into the hands of an oppo who have been very strong in the latter stages of games. Also, we are looking tired. Davo was struggling at the end. Wattsy was knackered when he came off. Fola was struggling just before HT & Dundo off injured first half.
Going to be a tough game saturday, but at least then we've got a week off to rest up, get some energy back & sort out a few niggles.
However, it's 3 points away from home, still top and now a little bit of space between us and those behind us. ;D
Finally, what was all that bollocks about before the end with the pissed up local chucking punches? Pilot Field has always been one of the friendlier places we've gone to in recent years. Very strange.
