Hastings Utd v Sutton Utd
Post by Bob Keen on Sep 5th, 2010, 05:55am
We will be down to film the game on Tuesday and, as usual, members of the BKVP Sport Forum will be able to view match highlights from around Thursday onwards.
Since I will be busy editing after the game, could I suggest that anyone not already a member that wants to watch these and other forthcoming highlights, joins the forum before midday Tuesday if possible. That will allow plenty of time for me to set up the Video Viewing Account, and give you time to test it out before the highlights appear.

Has all the makings of a great game.
Both sides unbeaten with Sutton on a run of 4 straight victories with only their visit to Concord Rangers on the opening day of the season not yielding 3 points ,a 0-0 draw.
Sutton are going for a club equaling record of clean sheets this season ,should they not conceed against us .
It is after all one of their longest trips so anything could happen.
Well done lads after Saturday's win . Sutton at home certainly will be the sternest test of the new squads ability but on our day we can beat anyone.

A tough game against a very well organised side who deserved the win but a good fightback from the lads when all looked lost and was at the end tough to see our 3rd goal ruled out ,however no way should we have gifted them their 3rd goal.
Doubt you will see a better side at the PF this season who will easily be contenders for the title, but our lads shouldn't be that far behind if they keep fighting their way back into games as they did do tonight.
Small consolation in at least we were the first side to score against them all season.

I didn’t think we had too much to complain about at half time.
Sutton looked the better side and always posed the greater goal threat as we again resorted to far too many long balls forward. Both their goals were well worked and though a two goal lead may have flattered them a bit, my overall impression was we were just getting beaten by a slightly better side.
The third goal of course was a bit of the killer, or so we thought at the time ! I have to blame the keeper really as he had a view of all the play in front of him and should have been heard on the seafront if he was really coming for that ball ! (But we can’t be too harsh…these are split second decisions and goals like that regularly happen at a far higher level than ours.)
Just as bringing Kenny on made the difference on Saturday, so taking him off seemed to change the course of events last night. Both Cade and Logan seemed to be far more involved than he ever was and suddenly we started looking dangerous. Great goals from Razor and Ade (not forgetting the effort against the bar with the keeper nowhere) and suddenly, from a game we had given up on, we were back in it.
So what actually happened in that last manic minute ? From the back of the main stand I saw the lino’s flag go up so it was clearly for offside and nothing else. But just about every first hand report from behind the goal suggests that the ball was touched on by a defender so the decision was clearly wrong. Why did the ref not spot this, consult with the lino and award the goal ? So all in all a very unsatisfactory way to lose our unbeaten record and concede 3 points to one of our main rivals.
We had a lot to complain about at the end !

I agree with pretty much everyone has posted so far, I did think that we gave them as good as they got for lengthy periods, did they take their foot off the gas or was it because we got at them more. I was in such a good position to see why the late goal was given offside but I would say that if the ball did in fact come off one of the defenders then as I was told many years ago, the ball was going forward before the other player touched it so in theory it should of been given as offside. In my opinion though the ref was shocking, probably one of the worse refs I've seen in ages.

Worth noting that all the other results last night actually went in our favour as we are 6th only 2 points off 2nd place .
Our next league game away to Bury immediately above us should be a good chance to get back on track again,

There were 2 Sutton defenders on the line plus a goalkeeper though was there not? That's what has bamboozled me...
Superb comeback though. Our thoughts went from "can we just score one" to "let's at least make it an interesting finale". We certainly did that! We can't be too distraught with a 3-2 defeat though as they were evidently the better side in every single position throughout the 90 minutes.
