The 'Hendon Saturday' thread was looking forward to today's match, so here's a new one for updates, reports and comments on the game itself.

Another very important win with a pretty dominant performance from the off and we didn't really look back after Leroy's header which was well over the line opened the scoring. Hendon had a little 5min spell just after which resulted in them hitting the post but that was the last time they ventured forwarded with any serious intent until they were 3 down. Jolls settled any nerves we may have had with a clinical finish on 30mins and it was just one way traffic for the remainder of the half and most of the second with U's midfield and Davis back running the show. When Dundo added the 3rd with a low drive, the game was effectively over as Hendon looked a shadow of the side which beat us a couple of weeks ago, infact you would not think it was the same one?
The only surprise was that we did not score 5 or 6 and were a bit wasteful but job well and truly done without breaking too much sweat. Good to see AJ on at the end, and I will give my MOTM to Leroy, not only is he class but he never gives up anything even if 3-0 up in the 90min.
I saved comments about Hendon until the end because I have never seen such a un-Hendon like side, ill disciplined, thuggy and even dangerous at times and very luck to end the game with 10. I have always liked Hendon because they always try to play football but what I saw today was a disgrace to their badge.
4 straight wins will take the title !!!!

That ended up being a fairly routine victory - we won at a canter. A couple of chances in the first half for Hendon, but after that they looked a pretty weak side. Certainly nothing like a side that beat us a few weeks ago. There were times where we bossed the game without even trying.
Lots of shouts from our supporters at them being a dirty side - I don't think they are, I thought they were more clumsy that intentionally dirty. Certainly their No4 getting booked in the first half for a coming together with Tom Davis' head wasn't a sending off, and other poorer refs would have given it so. Again, another good ref overall i thought.
Good to see AJ again in a first team game as well.
Bury unsurprisingly beat a poor Horsham team, but probably the result of the day for us was Cray inflicting Lowestoft's first home defeat of the season - we're now the only undefeated home side in the league. Tonbridge managed to get a 1-0 home win against bottom of the table Maidstone to keep in touch and reignite their faultering campaign. The way its looking now, 3 of the 4 play off places look like going to Bury, Lowestoft and Tonbridge, with Billericay, Hornchurch and possibly Canvey fighting for that 5th spot. Kingston's form in particular is looking worrying with only 6 points out of a possible 24 as their slide down the table.
After today, our main rival seems to be Bury again, with Lowestoft not far behind. Tonbridge, Billericay, Hornchurch and Canvey have a lot of work to do and hope we have a poor run if they are to remain in with a shout for the title.
Even if teams get an average of 2 points per game (unless one of them goes on an amazing winning run) then 4 wins from our last 8 games will probably deliver us the title. That would give us 82 points, with Bury on 81. Beating Bury in April could well seal it for us.
Bury, Lowestoft, Billericay and Hornchurch all have winnable midweek games against margate, hendon, Carshalton and Hastings respectively. After Tuesday, things will be a lot clearer, especially if the first two of those teams fail to get 3 points. Unlikely, but as we've seen in this league, given the right circumstances any team can beat any other.
Well done to Dos and the gang today for a professional job well done. Next week won't be so easy, but we know what we are up against

"4 straight wins will take the title" Complacent nonsense. Mathemtically we need 7 wins, 6 might be enough. Anything less would be touch and go.

"4 straight wins will take the title" Complacent nonsense. Mathemtically we need 7 wins, 6 might be enough. Anything less would be touch and go. Got to agree here! Sorry OS, there's a lot more external factors to take into account before we can say that! Bury can still get 91 points, Lowestoft 89, Tonbridge 86, Billericay 84, Hornchurch 83 and Canvey 84. So even with 4 straight wins, we can still be beaten and in some cases clearly. Everytime we win we become less likely to lose top spot, but we've not won it yet, and we won't do, even with 4 straight wins (Funnily enough against Hornchurch, Canvey and Bury, with Aveley thrown in too) won't affect Lowestoft, Billericay or Tonbridge getting 3 points in every game too.

Not complacent at all just an observation, although the mathematics don't endorse what I am saying this pretty much does: 4 straight wins if we can get them, and I admit that it is unlikely but that's not the point. 4 straight wins mean we win at home to Bury and our GD will be above +40, leaving our closest rival the task of winning 7 from 9 games and getting a draw to then overhaul us. Sutton United 34 - 70 (4 wins from 8 = 82pts) = 1.5pts per game Bury Town 32 - 61 (7 wins from 10 = 82pts) = 2.1pts per game Lowestoft Town 31 - 56 (9 wins from 11 = 83pts) = 2.45pts per game Tonbridge Angels 33 - 59 (8 wins from 9 = 83pts) = 2.67pts per game AFC Hornchurch 32 - 53 (10 wins from 10 = 83pts) = 3pts per game I standby my comments

You could have just gone 'what Andy K said' But the error in what you are saying is that Bury are our only rivals. Lowestoft still can win every game, and if we win the next 4 and lose the last four, they can win the title. And also if we beat Bury, they could still win all their other games, and we could lose our last 4, and again we lose the title. So stand by what you say, but I would say I've given a slightly more reasoned argument

Sorry but 82pts should not be enough to win this league. I reckon win 5 out of 8 & we may land the title but 6 wins would be alot better. Bury could go on a really strong run from now & 82pts may see us fall short.
As for today another solid performance on a hard pitch (can we water it plse?) with three good goals. Leroy did so well to get that header, and the two finishes by Jols & Dundo were excellent.
Have to take issue with Andy K over their no 4. He could easily have avoided the prone Tom Davis but chose not to & raking your stud across the head of opponent has to be red as does the 2 footed challenge by the nine. Still, he got his red for a despicable challenge on Scrivs that summed up Hendon's approach to this game.
We could have done with a stronger ref; he was spot on with his decision making but let himself down badly with regards to his use of cards. How, having let go what he did could he justify booking Kav for his only foul of his appearance from the bench? It wasn't even a bad challenge ffs.
Hendon is a fine old name in the traditions of amateur/nl football but Gary McCann's boys let that name down today.
A real toughy at Urchins next week.
