i think it could be a great idea, players could train on it to save cost and also get extra money in from hiring it out.
that do take quite a bit of looking after and are expensive 500k + for a real top of the range surface but in the long run it could generate some great income.
games could still get called off with snow etc but they would survive the rain we had over xmas

I'm sure the club have looked at the potential income the pitch could generate annually. 500k is a lot of money, how would the club find that sum?

Surely they are less expensive to maintain than grass pitches?!

Has anyone considered that it changes the game?Surely playing on different surfaces at different times of the year is all part of football and not sanitised as plastic pitches are. I can understand the benefits to had by having one especialy at GGL where the pitch needs renewing. Put me in the undecided column!

Gus Poyet took his Brighton side to Maidstone and had this to say about the pitch:
“I was very pleased, the pitch was magnificent. The players were happy and the ball rolled very well. There were no issues and no injuries, so it was perfection. Congratulations to Maidstone.”

I'm sure a time will come when artificial pitches (of 3G standard or better) will be the norm throughout senior football. But maybe not in my lifetime!

A very bold statement by the club, and certainly not in line with what normally is published. I kind of like that though They raise a very good point - it needs a lot of support from clubs. I fear sadly that some clubs will be against it as they see it as an expense they can't afford. Someone correct me, but am I right in thinking that Maidstone ground had to have a 3G pitch as determined by the council?

However given the choice I would support the use of an artificial pitch at GGL. The club would save on the current use of the training facilities in Guildford also the use of the Banstead ground. Rental of a 3G pitch could be around £50 an hour, get your calculator out and do the sums
