I don't normally say too much about player moves as I think everybody is aware of budget constraints and the manager clearly knows more about managing a squad of players than I do.
I do think though that this seems to leave us much weakened in defence (although I will admit to not knowing exactly how dual registration affects future appearances of Steven Old).
Have we got good youngsters at the back in the reserves that may be called up. Most of those given forms last week appear to be attacking players.

Is anybody joining us? Going on Dos's previous statements, I'd say that was doubtful at the moment.
Gwillam has been out of favour for a while with the wing back system so albeit he's done nothing wrong, I can see why he's gone. Steven Old has probably been one of our consistent defenders so I'm presuming that he doesn't feature in the short term plans (i.e. next month) to ease the wage bill.
Still worries me that now our defence is thin on the ground and pretty much will be Boateng/Stuart/Downer/Rents every game - if we want to play with 3 centre backs, which has been pretty effective in the last 6 weeks, our only option to add to that is Telfer.

Gal gwillem I can understand but if this means oldy is going to be turning out for Ks rather than us I will be deeply concerned as I reckon he's the player who stabilised our defence when we started putting some results together. I suppose we will have to wait and see how it pans out but whichever way you cut it we are looking stretched at the back as we start looking at the prospect of two games a week. I guess we will be seeing more of telfs unless of course strachan offers him a role.

So Gwillen, Gwillam and Gwillem have all gone. Any news on Gareth Gwillim?

Releasing Gwillim sounds sensible to me, considering he hasn't been playing lately, although I can't say I'm in favour of letting Old go.

I don't think this is a move that Dos wanted to make, its one he has been forced to make so its hard to argue against.
We can't score, our pitch wants to be a lake, we face the prospect of losing our next 2 matches to the weather unless the forecast changes dramatically!
All a bit depressing really.

Well there goes the defence again! Don't have a problem with Gwillim going but Old has been our best defender by far!
What i don't understand is the comments about the games being off.Yes we don't get the income right now but we do get it eventually when the games are played.

Bromley at home on Boxing day would bring in a hell of a lot more than a cold Tuesday night in Feb. And generally Saturday games bring in more than Tuesday night ones. So he's got a very good point!

I suspect the cash flow killer for us was the two home games over Christmas being knocked out. We could have expected a decent crowd for those two. Sure, those games will have to be played at some point midweek but in the meantime bills and wages have to be paid and unless you are prepared to rack up a line of debt on the promise of jam tomorrow you have to wind back the outgoings. That's sound business and the reason why we aren't in a bath scenario. Having said all that I still think its a mistake shipping out a key asset, and to bleedin Ks in a lower league of all places, even if the lad is possibly off to china in a few weeks. Oldy was instrumental in stopping us shipping goals even if there wasn't much he could do about the problem at the other end of the park. If its the last we see of him in a Sutton shirt then that's a real shame but I wish him well and hope he realises his full potential. If that's in football in china then maybe he might bung us a few quid.

Annoyed about the comment or about the games being called off? I think we are ALL thinking that about the latter!

The dependency of the club (and other clubs) to play fixtures to pay the bills is clearly evident, but what must be frustrating for everyone is that the postponements were all out of the club's control. Imagine if we were challenging for playoffs etc and had to release players because of the weather, itcan really change a season.
Explains the timing of the 3G pitch debate as well. The FA have to listen soon, not only do clubs loose money with the bad weather, but it can actually affect the league table.

Not annoyed about your comment Andy which in hindsight is probably correct. Annoyed that we release Old who has added a much needed stability to the centre of defence. We are second from bottom of the league and we were conceding silly goals before he arrived. Yes he may go to China in February.Yes we havent had a home league game for ages. Old is the last player i would have released!

Thanks Andy K, just read the "Online Version" of the Guardian in which in part of Dos's interview, it says Gareth Gwillim has actually gone to Ebbsfleet which I can't see documented anywhere else !
