We weren't exactly at our best today - we've played better this season without winning - but we held on for those important three points that lifted us out of the relegation zone. Let's hope we can now stay out of it! We had just the better of the first half but Eastleigh stepped up the pressure in the second and there were spells when we were pinned back in our own half of the pitch. So when Dundo hammered in the second goal it came as a big relief. Our opponents sensed then that they'd lost the game, but Jamie Stuart's red card and the five minutes of stoppage time gave them hope and we had a few nervous moments after they scrambled that late consolation goal. Eastleigh may be under-achieving but that implies they're better than their league position suggests. I'm not displeased that we've now got both our games against them out of the way. Of the three new players I thought Folkes looked the liveliest, showing some early pace and useful touches down the wing, as well as an ability to get back and defend, although he did fade after the first thirty minutes. Pacquette and Sinclair had solid if rather unmemorable debuts. So at long last we're half way through our league fixtures and now have a rather nicely balanced record of W7D7L7, F26A26. With those stats we really should be sitting comfortably in mid-table.

I gather we are about to sign a new 6 foot 5 defender called Tom Jordan who has recently been released by Eastleigh. More to be revealed in the interview that should be up in half an hour or so Hmm! Something of a hate figure in non-League circles, as I recall. It will be interesting to see if he wins over the Sutton fans.

I think AA's referring here to the alleged ancient history of the "tapping up" scandal when Tom left Havant for Eastleigh. Frankly I couldn't give a toss about that. We need a proven central defender with half our league season to be compressed into three months and he looks like he fits the bill to me.

Andy K my man, why the shock at Dundo's abilities at the back? Remember the SSC final where he was our defence for the last ten or fifteen minutes?!

Never been that impressed with Jordan in games vs Eastleigh in recent times. Slow. But he does give us size which we need and I guess he is back up centre half unless we choose to go with 3 of them again?

The "tapping up" bit was probably more down to Ian Baird more than Tom himself. I always thought he did a solid job in defence when we played them (either for Eastleigh or Havant). Certainly useful to have around the place, especially as we will be losing Stuart for a game in a couple of weeks. He also doesn't have a bad scoring record as a centre back either, and may well bag a few goals!

And not a single mention of alcohol Col??!!?? The Temperance Society will be delighted. Can we assume normal service will be resumed next week with Duke and the hard liners back at the controls for the trip to Essex?

Ha ha ha !! Yeah sorry to disapoint, but booze for me is a non starter at the mo! Apologies...... Oh yes Duke will be covering every 'aspect' next weekend! I believe Marky N will be making the trip on the booze cruise...so I'm sure Duke will be covering that in some depth, as well as the usual return to normal service drinking shenanigans!
In the mean time, you'll have to put up with my sober affair with Robinson Fruitshoots!
GOD help Hornchurch.......and Dukes money purse!

Yes it is official and for some reason I will be leaving the car behind and joining Duke et al on the train.
Rather like an offbeat episode of Hong Kong Phooey, the mild mannered turnstile guy will no doubt become a beer monster for the day (god help us all !!). It even means I will have to frequent a Wetherspoons which is not my normal choice of drinking den.

Well, that was a tough return to football. Thought we were lively in the first half with Marvellous Marv in particular causing problems with his pace. The pitch was always going to be difficult but playable although I believe once again the ref had doubts. Not sure what they want to play on these days a bowling green perhaps?
Not sure why their manager got upset about the pen. The guy had his hands up, which is not a natural position unless you're a scarpering cartoon character from The Beano. Sam duly despatched.
The second half proved harder going as Eastleigh, who are a big powerful side, enjoyed alot of possession and provided the occasional goal threat.
Dundo got U's second but their did look to be a use of the arm before he thumped the ball home. I couldnt see the visitors scoring after that until the ref intervened and showed skip a second yellow. Still 3 points after a long lay-off. I'll take that irrespective of what others think of the performance and in particular with 3 new faces to bed in.
Now to the ref. It took 25 mins for him to give us a free-kick that in our 6 yard box. The next was offside and the 4th was the penalty. Second half I thought RP was a tad fortunate to only get a yellow his tackle ending Lacey's involvement. I'm not sure what counts as dissent these days but the finger wagging Flitney really should not have been allowed to get away with that.
Then Sam Rent's was victim of a studs up late challenge that the ref did not even acknowledge as a foul! Then came Skip's second yellow as the man in black went card crazy even though he was in the middle of his swing to clear as the ref blew. That was shocking but to then let an Eastleigh player play ball into the net after the whistle had blown and do nothing summed his appalling afternoon.
The fact that the ref's assessor was still on his case a good hour after the match finished rather says it all.
So, we have played a match at last and won. Hapy day.

I notice Dos is also upset at the inconsistency, but shouldn't the ref deal more harshly with what is essentially a time wasting offence by the team that's winning as opposed to the team that's losing? I think that we had a bit of good fortune. Agree with earlier comment that RP was fortunate not to get a straight red when he was yellow carded. Also did look like Dundo's arm was involved in his goal. That said, it was a battling performance from a ring rusty side. Marvin Williams and Michael Boatend were terrific.
