Well what a difference a game makes!
This game was the polar opposite of Saturday. I am sure the pitch helped and like others I spoke to last night, I was surprised at how good it looked when I first arrived at the ground.
Pace, passing and intelligent movement made for a performance that turned the league table completely on its head. Wellling looked like they had no idea at times.
Great performance overall but I really think Harry O just about deserved a special mention so he gets my MOTM. I appreciate that the number of games coming up and suspension will mean a certain amount of squad shuffling but, if we can keep up this level, then the first team should surely be made up primarily around this line up (save for Scrivs returning for the excellent Wayne Shaw).
Fingers crossed we can take the momemntum of 4 points from the past two games into the next two and that league table will continue to look much better.
Come on U's

Cracking game - the best at GGL this season by some distance. Rather helps when the oppo turn up and try to play and not put 7 across the back.
Thought we were great value for the win with a great team display. Both Harry's were excellent to night as was Marvellous Marv and of course Dundo - 50 goals for the club now - along with Rivs who quietly got on with his job. The back four protected the Big Man well but when needed Wayne did what he had to. Tom Jordan impressed again.
Yes, there was that glaring miss by their striker but we had a penalty saved. They had an early pen shout but having got booked for diving later, one wonders how much, if any, contact was made on Jamie day when he went down - I was too far away to make a judgement.
Ref had a a weird one last night. Helped let the game flow but probably let too much go. Great advantage for our second but where was the yellow for the worst tackle of the night on Harry B after he had played the ball? He seemed to have a downer on Downer too.
Still, a great win over the second place side who were aided by Salisbury's defeat at Eastleigh. That was Eastleigh's 3rd consecutive win since losing at GGL recently, so another good result on form guide.
Well done to all and as said elesewhere to the ground staff that prepared an excellent surface save for the usual areas that cause problems because of what is occurring underground.

Can't add much to what has already been said.Excellent performance and more like last season.I expected a few more to turn up but people just look at the league table and not beyond it.If we keep playing like that the crowds will return.

Great result and major respect for the groundstaff for getting the game on. I expected another postponement, and like a lot of others surely are I am gutted I didnt brave the cold to see what sounded like yet another excellent Welling Sutton encounter.
The result and performance clearly show that we are one of the better sides in this league. However, I think the fact that the league is so tight might also suggest no one here is near good enough for Conference football. I still fully expect us to make the play offs IF we can avoid any more postponements and keep the squad fit. Momentum is a wonderful thing in football but I think this next 3 months will be the toughest run of games any of our players are likely to have encountered, and will push their fitness levels to the limit. As for attendances, well I dont think our league position has as much to do with it as the weather and the frustrations of the January schedule. Personally I have to work most Saturdays now this year but I am definitely going to make as many games as I can, and there are plenty of home evening games to look forward to. Just keeping fingers crossed for a dry spell and a bit of luck that we richly deserve. 6 of our next 9 games are against teams currently below us and 18 points would probably see us knocking on the door.

Sutton United 2-1 Welling United News shopper match report www.newsshopper.co.uk/sport/10223305.Flat_as_a_pancake_Welling_suffer_Shrove_Tuesday_setback/FOLLOWING defeat at Dover on Saturday that ended Welling’s record breaking run of consecutive league victories, they failed to bounce back at in-form Sutton United. Changes were made to Welling’s line up with Anthony Acheampong replacing Ben Martin, debutant De’Reece Vanderhyde coming in for the injured Barney Williams, whilst a tactical adjustment meant Scott Kinch started ahead of Kiernan Hughes-Mason. The Welling team seemed to struggle with the new formation and Sutton produced the flowing passing football that the Wings’ supporters had become accustomed to watching. Sam Mott was in action early on, saving from Leroy Griffiths but Welling were denied an opportunity in their first meaningful foray when Jamie Day’s legs were taken from under him in the Sutton penalty area, but incredibly referee Ryan Atkin waved play on. Mott had to be out sharply again to thwart Marvin Williams, Harry Beautyman fired just over, and Jamie Stuart saw a header come back off the near post from a corner as Sutton continued to press for an opening. Ross Lafayette had a shot from distance gathered by Sutton goalkeeper Wayne Shaw, and a clever pull back from Joe Healy found Day but his shot was blocked before Mott was again called into action with a save from Beautyman. Craig Dundas shot wide before being brought down to earn a penalty on the stroke of half time. Sam Rents stepped up to strike the spot kick low to his right but Mott guessed correctly to make a great save. Lafayette had a wonderful opportunity early in the second half, but having rounded Shaw, Welling’s leading scorer shot high and wide as he appeared to lose his balance. After Scott Kinch headed Jack Obersteller’s cross straight at Shaw, Sutton went ahead when Dundas converted a cross from their right hand side. Hughes-Mason replaced Lee Clarke but within minutes, Sutton doubled their lead. Another raid down the right wing left Obersteller exposed and once again, a low cross was converted by Harry Ottaway. John Main replaced Kinch but Welling struggled to create much and Day was cautioned harshly for simulation when he appeared to have been caught. Dundas headed wide for Sutton before Hughes-Mason broke through but tried to set up Main only to see Stuart intercept. Simon Downer, Sutton’s right back, was cautioned after a succession of fouls before Theo Fairweather-Johnson replaced Healy. Main set-up Lafayette superbly in the 88th minute to reduce the arrears but Welling couldn’t fashion another opening and it was the Sutton players and supporters who celebrated a deserved victory at the end of the game.

Was also impressed by Ottaway last night. Previously I thought it was a lot of huff and puff without really producing anything much. Howver very good last night so big credit there. Loved seeing Beautyman in the 'hole' as well and having an effect higher up the pitch. He was terrific especially in the first half hour. Only really Leroy to my mind wasn't at their best last night and you can afford 1 guy having an off night. I guess the only other area for improvement is goal scoring. Given the situations we had in the 1st half we really should have buried a couple more. Still have to be more ruthless and put more chances away. Confidence should help with this hopefully.
Now to make things interesting and kick on we have to back it up on Sat/Tues with at least 4 points, hopefully 6. If we can keep even a distant shout of the play offs alive it will make for a fun 2nd half. Obviously we still need to put points between us and the relegation zone as well before we get carried away with looking upwards but our record to date suggests we shouldn't be in the shake up at that end of the table!

If we want to make the play-offs then our target needs to be Boreham Wood in fifth place, ten points above us with two games more played and still to visit GGL. Win those three games and we're in with a chance!

The floating fan probably sank into their sofa to watch Juventus give Celtic a kicking.
They missed out on a good game.
