No choice but to make a quick decision, delboy. After Lewes we meet Braintree and then Hayes. Lose those two and we'll be even deeper in the quagmire. The new manager just has to get going immediately. GIGGIDY GIGGIDY ALL RIGHT

It's not going to be easy for Ernie, but I'm sure he knows that.
He's managed at this level before, and helped get Farnborough out of dire straits last year. And he's been around long enough to have built a fair-sized contact book.
Welcome on board Ernie, and Good Luck

I think Howe's departure from Basingstoke was very similar to JR's from Sutton. Both occurred at the same time after long associations with the job but both staring at relegation. He had got them out of bad situations before & also enjoyed some good FA Cup runs as well as a promotion.
After such long service, sometimes both board & manager have to bite the bullet & say enough is enough & move on. There are only so many times that you can perform the same trick with the same club.

He is very good IMO and a nice chap to boot, (no, not to kick). Did a great job at Basingrad. Used to play at QPR I believe. I think it is a great appointment. Feeling positive for you Suttonites. Onwards and upwards.

Welcome on board Ernie, and Good Luck To be honest, I have mixed feelings and it's certainly not going to be an easy task, but the appointment is made, so good luck to him. Other people are entitled to their views, though.

I believe the board have made a rushed decision.Have appointed a manager who rarely achieved any success at Basingstoke and fear that he will take us down to the Ryman Premier.I hope to be proved wrong but i watched his progress from when he took over at Basingstoke and frankly was not impressed. I don't normally go on the offensive, but delboy you are talking rubbish! How long do we have to have a caretaker manager for? 4 games not enough? 4 games without a win? A rushed decision would have been appoint Massey full time after one game. But looking at your previous postings I get the impression that is exactly what you wanted. Please feel free to name a better manager bearing in mind a) We need someone with experience at this level b) someone with contacts c) someone happy to accept we have virtually nothing to spend on players d) realise they won't be able to get much of a wage e) wanting to take on a club in footballing trouble He won't have to do too much to improve the situation to be honest

Just a point about managers getting sacked, they all either resign of get the boot from every club at some stage. Relationships do tire after years and years, but if we sack Ernie in 13 yrs then maybe him and us can call it a success?

I think it's the best appointment that was possible to be honest thinking about it now.
He never crossed my mind as a candidate, but then neither did Hazel before he got the job. Howe knows this level, has experience as a manager and has worked at a similar sized club resources wise and done a decent job there.
He might not have achieved much at Basingstoke, but then we ourselves haven't achieved anything in almost 10 years either other than County Cup success.
Let’s give him our support as it's in all our interests that he's a success. Welcome Ernie.

Ernie Howe has been round the block a few times, he knows the score and what needs to done. No doubt he has watched Sutton and figured the strenghts and weakness in the current squad. We all need Ernie to be a success, so that we can once again enjoy watching SUFC Good luck Ernie, how about 3 points at Lewes.

all i can say is good luck! we are bottom of the league, but i think we have a alrightish base to start on. we could have a team that can bearly play football, but i have seen improvements and a bit of petential. onwards and upwards eh? now the desicion has been done. lets give him a good welcome at lewes and let him know were all behind him and the team. i will be up for the game. and so should all of u !!! thanks

No i would have given him until xmas to turn things round as we are certainly playing better than under Hazel. From the messages above it would that this is a popular decision although many have never heard of him. I want him to do well for Sutton United and hope he does as i do not want to contemplate relegation.Iv'e expressed my concerns and shall leave it at that. He has a very tough task ahead and requires all our support this season. None of us know the qualities and experience of the other candidates so maybe Ernie is the best man for the job.He will need time and he will need some money and hopefully the board will accomodate him.

Any news who the assistant manager will be?
Is Massey staying on or is Dack coming back or someone else?

I recall some years ago standing near the visitors' dug-out at GGL during a mid-season Ryman League match against Basingstoke. Ernie Howe turned and said (something like): "this is the worst pitch in the league. It's absolutely terrible!"
What goes around comes around. Welcome to Sutton, Ernie!

Not achieved anything at Basingstoke? What utter rubbish. Where do you think they were before he came along, Delboy? League One? He got them to the highest level they'd ever played at!
