Andy K No i would have given him until xmas to turn things round as we are certainly playing better than under Hazel. From the messages above it would that this is a popular decision although many have never heard of him. I want him to do well for Sutton United and hope he does as i do not want to contemplate relegation.Iv'e expressed my concerns and shall leave it at that. He has a very tough task ahead and requires all our support this season. None of us know the qualities and experience of the other candidates so maybe Ernie is the best man for the job.He will need time and he will need some money and hopefully the board will accomodate him. I agree. Mass did get us playing better than Hazel did. But an FA Cup exit, no points and one goal (from a full back!) - We just don't have the luxury of keeping him on until Xmas to play with. 5 points out of a possible 39. I would have loved Mass to have carried on and seen what happened, but the harsh reality is that its already an emergency situation, and its not even November yet!

Mr Hazel has already appointed Massey as his new assistant at Leatherhead, and Micky Stephens continues as club scout.

I beg to differ there. They got relegated from the Ryman premier and came back up again.
They came back up as runners up in 1996/97. I believe that would put Ernie in charge when they were relegated but full credit to him for getting them back up so soon.

He got 'stoke to 7th in the Conf South in his last full season though which must be their highest finish.

No, 3rd in Ryman I believe (if you count them as equivalent levels)

Well it's not quite equivalent is it? The Conf South isn't a full level above where the old Ryman was, but I'd call it half a level higher. You had to be in the top half of the Ryman to get into the new league.
I also seem to remember some Basingstoke fans celebrating their highest ever league finish not so long ago.

Bit of a surprise appointment I must say (in that I'd not thought of him as a candidate!), but I've got no complaints. Experienced manager, been about at this level for a while & should have plenty of contacts.
Good luck Ernie & welcome to GGL.

Haze's first game in charge of L'head ended in the 10 man Tanners' losing 3-1 at home to Ashford (Kent). Would've gone but had to work.

Haze was saying last night that several players left the club when Dave Harlow went, so his first task is to bring in some replacements.

That's alright, didn't rate Hammond on the brief glimpses I saw. Jamie Beer went straight away, from Levred to K's, they'll miss him I reckon.
