Two years ago we had 505 for this game. It will be interesting to see how it compares tonight. The attendance was 484, so pretty close Stewart

It was a superb game. Both sides played quick one touch football Sutton just had the better players. Scannell had a fine debut, Jamie Taylor deserved his man of the mach with two goals, on a night he could have scored four. Dundas got one and the fourth was an og.

Staines really avoided a hammering there, it could have been 6 or 7 and i liked the way we went for the throat where as last season we seemed content with 2-0. Hard to judge the new guys MacDonald and Scannell against such weak opp although both look tricky. Taylor looks class, think he will score hatfuls. Two delightful finishes and deserved a hattrick. In the ref's defence he showed an admirable desire to let the game flow, which i really like to see, and the first two pen shouts i think he was letting his linesmen make the decision. The third shout was a poor decision though, it was his to make and looked nailed on for Taylor to take and score his 3rd.
Nelson is a strange player, he shows superb anticipation and is great at getting a toe in, but gives the ball away in silly places. Seems to tighten up when he goes to CB. Moses looks like excellent cover for the first choice two, while Folkes must have thought all his xmas's had come at once as Staines allowed him the freedom of GGL down the right, the sort of game every attacking full back dreams of. He put in some good deliveries but will be disappointed not to have created more.
All in all not bad and a thoroughly entertaining game.

well, the stay-aways missed an incident packed match. U's started well and really should have been in front very early on before Staines settled and caused a few problems themselves.
After a few more close shaves U's finally broke the deadlock with the excellent Fuseini finding Taylor with an exquisite chip. The header that followed by Taylor was of a quality I've not seen for sometime from a U's player. The power and placement were exceptional.
The challenge on skip that followed soon after was appalling but the farce the ref made of it with regards taking any action was equally as poor. I reckon he took at least 4 mins over it so to add just 2 on was a complete joke.
U's came out with a two goal burst early in the second. Taylor got his second with a superbly timed run to collect Marv's pass and the finish was superb. Dundo then swivelled with his back to goal before firing past Turner.
the one disappointment was to concede, Theophanous capitalising on a mistake to thump past Lovelock. He is a good player and has now scored on all 3 of his visits to GGL.
Staines no 6 turned the ball into the net from a powerfully driven low cross from the right. U's should have added to their tally as the ten men toiled against fast, incisive passing and had a blatant penalty turned down when Marv, who would have been through on goal was shoved in the back. The ref, who had a poor game in many respects, failed in his duty to award and if he didn't think it was why did he not book Marv for diving?
All in all a great evening other than losing skip after that appalling challenge. Even an erratic refereeing display could not wipe the gloss of a good football match. As for Staines, they are a young side but some of the challenges they put in were more akin to the 60's and 70's and the late one on Tom close to the end was cowardly but only earned a verbal rebuke from a referee who I hope will be put right by the assessor after the match. Not good enough.
Very enjoyable to watch U's play tonight; we do have alot of quality on the pitch and indeed on the bench.
Final score was 4-1 not 4-0!

A far more entertaining game than Saturday's. The sending off in the first half obviously turned the match in our favour, though we were the better side before that. But for some agile goalkeeping by Jack Turner and lenient refereeing by Mr Butler we could have had eight. Staines had their chances too but were let down by their finishing, although Tom did make an excellent save from a one-on-one in stoppage time. (Incidentally, Mark F, the Staines goal was scored by Scott Taylor, not Theophanous.)
That's the third time that we've beaten Staines 4-1 in the five meetings since our return to Conference South. More importantly, we've now got three points on the board.

Thought it was announced as Theophanous. Tannoy is poor behind the Collingwood goal. Oh well, good strike anyway.
Forgot to add that Turner made some great saves and no antics either. V good young 'keeper like our Tom.

Excellent performance, some of the interplay and movement was awsome, Taylor just so calm and poised when t comes to the business end. Not sure we will see too many sides give us the freedom of the pitch like Staines did tonight, I think just about everyone thought they would stay deep but Marcus decided to come at us? A real big shame to conceed making it 10 on the bounce without a clean sheet. Have to say I like Moses in there. Too far away from the sending off to see for sure, but they should ave been down to 9 in the 2nd half for the foul outside the box. Had to be a penalty on Marv for me and Dos enjoyed himself up in the new gantry. As others have said on another night it might have been 7 or 8 although we still need to tighten at the back.
As for the crowd, if we can get those highlights over to the local guardian on Thursday it has to get peoples attention and bring them in.

Well what a fantastic night. Already a step up from last year!
First thing I noticed tonight was the huge difference in the class of our opponents - You can see why Eastleigh are favourites and Staines are nowhere near. But credit to them, they came to us to play football rather than park the bus, and we clinically tore them a new one. Even with 11 men, I think we still would have won.
Jamie Taylor is a class above, and both his goals showed that. The perfectly placed header and the nifty footwork of his 2nd. Dundo to be honest, had a terrible game by his standards and looked poor, but with Dundo he still has that ability to perform a bit of magic, and his goal showed that to perfection. Scannell ran their no3 ragged and most of others had very good games. The passing game we were playing, especially in the 2nd half, was outstanding.
Negatives - their goal was totally gifted to them - no idea how we gave them so much room, but at that point we didn't have our first choice centre backs on the pitch - hopefully skip just took a little knock and is fine for Saturday, he was great prior to that.
It could have been a lot more - Turner in their goal pulled off at least 3 cracking saves. And we could have had 2 penalties - the 2nd looked a bit nailed on to me. And as for the yellow card for dundo being tripped, I thought it was a yellow - from what I saw, Dundo was never going to get to the ball before Turner, and their defender didnt need to trip him. So I reckon that wasn't a clear goalscoring opportunity, but then I, like many others in the crowd, are no refs!
Overall a great great night of football! That's more like it

Admittedly I only popped down for the second half after work but wasn't disappointed with what I saw - superb second half showing from our lads!
4-1 as a score line is a let off for Staines - it should have been 8 or 9! Interplay and movement were both excellent last night as mentioned and this result sets us up nicely for Saturday we will hope to reproduce a similar outcome.
Frightening to think Slabber and Binns still have to come back in as well!!

On a side note - the other scores were mentioned earlier and the lot down the road managed to win for the first time this season at Bognor.

Most of the team did very well tonight - although we had the all too familiar defensive mix up for their goal. I think that James Folkes has earned a chance to start at right back. Damien Scannell frankly looked too good for this level - as did Ali Fuseini in the second half.
As others have already said, great credit to Turner the Staines goalkeeper who was outstanding and prevented a cricket score.
