Not Asa Hartford was it? He did play in the Conference in the early 90s for Northwich and Stafford

OK thanks to Wiki, I have deduced its Arthur Mann (never heard of him though)
For Boston, Kettering or Telford?

Well, I've come up with a player (or more precisely, Google has helped me find a player), first name begins with A, who won the League Cup in England and finished on the losing side in a Scottish Cup Final but I am none the wiser, as I don't recall him with an English non-league side (presumably during our first spell in the Conference)

Getting back to the original thread.
We don't get the racial abuse at games. Things have come along way from the 70s and 80s. We now embrace black players and we have some of the best at Sutton United.
Question, who was the first black player to play for Sutton?

Gavin Fraser first mixed race. Eustace White first black player (played in the reserves) and the first to play for the first team was Junior Crooks back end of the 73/4 season.
All three were very popular at Sutton even though Junior's stay was short.

Yes, he came from West Ham with a big reputation but perhaps because he did not live up the expectations that the crowd had (unfairly) lumbered him with, he didn't became as popular as Crooks and was one of those players who got picked on. I think he went to Dulwich Hamlet from us. If not, I'm sure Mark will know.

Thanks very much Dave , I thought I remembered you mentioning his name once before. We went to school together in Balham in the fifties and sixties , he was a terrific player as a kid. Only spoken to him a couple of times since , once at Sutton's 5 (or 6?) a side tournament and once when he rang me out of the blue when I was organising a school reunion which he never turned up to ! I know he worked at Selhurst for Wimbledon FC for a few years.

He played for K's Dulwich, T&M and Bromley after us. I liked the fella but probably didn't do himself justice while he was here.
