We has the worst thread. Can you be positive about the modern game?

The pass back law. Better punishment of savage tackles. Last man fouls being red.

It's actually denying a goal scoring opportunity not last man. Agree with those three though plus the way the game has made the offside less of a weapon to defences even if it has become a nightmare for assistant ref's and spectators alike to fathom!
I'd add Frank Lampard acknowledging his late mother every time he scores. Anyone who has a problem with that has even more problems than just being irritated by it.

Football matches now being safer for spectators. I remember not so many years ago when people would get genuinely worried when you told them you were going to a game.

People are speaking out against racism and homophobia.
We still have a very long way to go and it would be nice to see the same action applied to disability discrimination, but we are heading in the right direction.

And on a similar note, the diversity of both fans and players has increased a lot.

1. Less racism (I was going to include sexism but seeing Billy’s comment I am now not so sure). 2. More skill. 3. Better fitness. 4. Less thuggery on the pitch. 5. Less crowd violence. 6. Family friendly grounds. 7. All seater stadiums. 8. Able to buy tickets in advance. 9. Able to go to the toilet at a ground without having to stand in a pool of p***s. 10. Better food at grounds. 11. Better pitches. 12. More live matches on TV. 13. No longer any stupid pre FA Cup final programmes. 14. Able to see world class players playing in English leagues. 15. Able to see world class clubs on TV. 16. Names on shirts. 17. Better kit, including - shirts, boots, goalkeeping gloves and balls. 18. Goal difference rather than goal average. 19. Substitutes. 20. Colour – football used to be played by grey players and watched by grey supporters on grey Saturday afternoons.

I was sipping my lemonade in a Sutton pub last season in the company of our two sons and their mates.Football was on TV though I wasn't taking much notice.Suddenly , a goal was scored and the scorer ran off gazing lovingly at the sky and pointing.
A voice (not from our group) cried out........."Look , he knows Frank Lampard's Mum"

When was goal difference introduced ? It was introduced into the English league system in the 76/77 season to encourage more attacking play
